Abstract:The key to grasp the law of soundscape was making analysis of soundscape on the time dimension. Taking Hangzhou orioles singing park as an example, through the sound, landscape elements to make the interpretation of the four seasons, day and night, the best time and area to build soundscape was got, and the soundscape walking routes were drawn based on the distribution of mark sound in the park. Abstract:In the traditional urban landscape design, visual sense is regarded as absolutely important while consideration of acoustic environment is inadequate. In order to promote a new viewpoint for urban landscape design and to enrich the design methods, the concept of soundscape was introduced. Combining sound components with landscape design leads to the concept of soundscape and its features. The type and features of soundscape, and its relation with human perception was observed and analyzed in a survey of city parks . The explanation of the factors, stages and levels of soundscape design built up the soundscape design framework. Soundscape plays an important role in urban landscape. Natural, background, man-made and activity sounds provide meaningful information for human landscape cognition. They enrich and complement human cognitive methods and subjective experience of objective environment. With plastic arts and building technology, soundscape design comprehensively meets the functional needs of human activities, advances the relationship between human being and environment, and promotes the humanity of the objective environment.

Abstract:The urban parks, where people interact with nature, be socialize and relieve stress, are located in urban open green spaces, and their importance has increased even more with pandemi in todays. Parks should be designed within the framework of design approaches that allow everyone to benefit equally and should serve all users in the city. Especially special arrangements are necessary for people with disabilities who are known as the disadvantaged group among urban people use these parks. Designs should be improved in accordance with the standars determined for the people with disabilities. It's required to evaluate the factors that will be constraints for them and to ensure effective use. In this study, four city parks (Reşat Oyal Kültürpark, Merinos Park, Soğanlı Botanic Park and Hüdavendigar City Park) located in Bursa and serving all the people of the city were evaluated. The observation and evaluation techniques were used for determine the parks, entrances, parking lots, road circulation, etc. Afterward, the data were analyzed by evaluating within the scope of the standards available for people with disabilities and their suitability. As a result, it was observed that the parks partially comply with the standards and there are some important situations that will cause problems for people with disabilities. Although there are no items such as tactile surfaces and reinforcement buttons in the parks, it has been determined that there are deficiencies such as level differences on the road floors, the absence of stairs and ramp solutions, and also the inconsistency of the dimensions of the reinforcement elements. In this case, In this case, the obstacles in front of the people with disabilities may be removed and a comfortable circulation may be provided by solving the existing problems and completing the deficiencies.

Abstract:Developing a public response model of soundscape in parks can provide a basis for the optimization of soundscape design. Three representative urban landscape garden parks were selected in Hangzhou, in which a number of evaluation points were chosen along soundwalk paths. Binaural sounds at each evaluation point were sampled by an artificial head and the landscapes of horizontal view and vertical view were obtained by panoramic photos and satellite images, respectively. An evaluation on soundscape of each point was conducted in laboratory based on virtual reality technology, and the correlations between 17 acoustic indicators, 35 landscape indicators and soundscape satisfaction degree were analyzed. The public response model of soundscape satisfaction degree in parks was developed. Final indicators entering the model were the loudness level of sound, the aggregation index of water, the largest patch index of water and the landscape shape index of roads, and their standard regression coefficients were − 0.666, − 0.561, 0.523 and − 0.310, respectively. The weights of the influences of acoustic and landscape indicators on the satisfaction were 32.3% and 67.7%. When the percentage of vegetation area in park exceeds 15%, its contribution to satisfaction degree will be close to a fixed value (reflected in the constant term of the model). The soundscape satisfaction can be effectively improved by reducing the loudness level of sound in parks, increasing the area of the largest water patch with scattered water patches around it, and reducing the shape complexity of road patches.

Abstract:The design of barrier-free facilities is an important part of paying attention to the disadvantaged groups in urban park green space, and it is the concrete embodiment of whether the whole park landscape design follows the general design principle of "creating fair use". By investigating the status quo of accessibility facilities in 11 parks and green Spaces in Huicheng District of Huizhou City, according to the types of facilities and the characteristics of users, the problems in accessibility design are proposed by combining quantitative analysis with subjective analysis. Based on the concept of micro update and upgrading strategy is put forward, which meet the demand of vulnerable groups create the public landscape space of fair use, To explore new ways to improve the green space quality of Huizhou urban parks in the future.

Abstract:Every person, regardless of their race, culture, origin, or religion, has an inherent right to move and live comfortably in various environments. This principle extends universally to include individuals with disabilities. It is crucial to recognize and uphold the rights of disabled individuals to equal access, participation, and inclusion in all aspects of life, including physical environments, public spaces, transportation, communication, and social interactions. By promoting inclusivity and eliminating barriers, society can create a fairer and more accessible world that allows people with disabilities to fully engage in their rights as valued members of the community. Hence, it is crucial to guarantee the convenient accessibility of all public areas since they play a substantial part in our everyday experiences. The objective of the research paper is to examine the standards for designing POS, particularly emphasizing their appropriateness for people with disabilities. The study conducts a comprehensive evaluation of Kumsal Park's design elements, assessing whether they adequately consider the needs of disabled individuals. The data collection involves a structured questionnaire that covers demographics, general information about Kumsal Park, park design features, and design criteria for individuals with disabilities. Additionally, data is collected through observations using a checklist created based on the study's observations. While Kumsal Park in Nicosia, Northern Cyprus, demonstrates satisfactory design criteria in certain areas, improvements are required to cater to disabled individuals and enhance the overall park experience. Addressing the identified issues, such as lighting, parking, security, activities, and signage, and improving accessibility features will contribute to creating a more inclusive and satisfying environment for all visitors. And the integration of children into the external environment can help children with autism to acquire the ability to self-care and develop social communication skills, and the external design of the surrounding environment may play an important role because thinking about details contributes to improving sensory perception and better developing skills to adapt to the environment. Where people with autism perceive the world in a unique perspective, as the excessive sensitivity to sounds, smells, colors, and the importance of tactile rather than visual contact, are the basic pillars corresponding to the nature of people with autism.Therefore, the research paper aims to set standards for designing open areas to meet the needs of autistic patients, and at the same time benefit children in general, as children playing in these parks and practicing motor activity develop their coordination and balance capabilities and develop their skills, including children's play areas and exploration of the natural world. Those around them have an important benefit in stimulating their psychological, intellectual, emotional and physical growth with the presence of sensory-kinetic stimuli that increase their ability to focus and pay attention and help with the passage of time to improve their health.

Abstract:Urban parks are spaces that can enhance older adults’ physical, social and psychological wellbeing. As the prevalence of older adults with disability increases, it is important that urban parks are accessible to this population so that they too might gain health benefits. There is limited literature investigating the experiences of urban parks by older adults with disability. This qualitative study, set in a region of New Zealand, explored the experiences, including accessibility, of urban parks by 17 older adults (55 years and older) with self-reported disabilities. Three focus groups (n = 4, 5 and 4 people) and four individual interviews were undertaken. Data were analyzed using the General Inductive Approach. Two primary themes of “Enticing” and “Park use considerations” are presented. Urban parks and green spaces are perceived to provide an environment for older adults with a disability to improve their physical, psychosocial and spiritual health, and social connectedness. Parks that are not age, ability or culture diverse are uninviting and exclusive. Meaningful collaboration between park designers, city councils and people with disability is required to maximize the public health benefits of parks and make parks inviting and accessible for users of all ages, cultures and abilities. Park co-design with people with disability may provide one means of improving accessibility and park usability and thus park participation by older adults with disability.

Abstract:As cities progress into high-quality developments, the demand for urban parks that enhance residents' well-being and sustainability is increasing. Traditional visual-centric design methods no longer suffice. Given that vision and hearing are the primary sensory pathways through which people perceive their environment, exploring their relationship with landscape experiences offers a novel perspective for optimizing the audiovisual perception quality of urban parks. This study explores the relationship between visual and auditory elements and landscape experiences to optimize urban parks' sensory quality. Using visual perception, soundscape perception, sound source perception, and behavioral vitality, this study evaluates the audiovisual perception quality of a representative wetland park in Chengdu's ring ecological zone. By quantifying relationships between audiovisual characteristics, behavioral vitality, and emotional feedback, several emotional assessment models were constructed. The results show that lawns, pavements, and sound pressure levels significantly impact vitality. A sound pressure level of 77 dB has been identified as a critical threshold in emotional perception models. Consequently, distinct emotional prediction models can be employed to enhance landscape design across various sound pressure level zones. This research provides scientific evidence and flexible strategies for designing urban open spaces that improve landscape experiences based on multisensory perception.

Abstract:Visually impaired people have unique perceptions of and usage requirements for various urban spaces. Therefore, understanding these perceptions can help create reasonable layouts and construct urban infrastructure. This study recruited 26 visually impaired volunteers to evaluate 24 sound environments regarding clarity, comfort, safety, vitality, and depression. This data was collected in seven different types of urban spaces. An independent sample non-parametric test was used to determine the significance of the differences between environmental evaluation results for each evaluation dimension and to summarize the compositions of sound and space elements in the positive and negative influence spaces. The results suggested that visually impaired people (1) feel comfort, safety, and clarity in parks, residential communities, and shopping streets; (2) have negative perceptions of vegetable markets, bus stops, hospitals, and urban departments; (3) feel anxious when traffic sounds, horn sounds, manhole cover sounds, and construction sounds occur; and (4) prefer spaces away from traffic, with fewer and slower vehicles, with a suitable space scale, and moderate crowd density. These results provide a reference for the future design of activity venues (i.e., residential communities, vegetable markets, bus stops, parks, shopping streets, hospitals, and urban functional departments) and the planning of accessibility systems for visually impaired urban residents.

Abstract:Urban parks are critical for sustainable urban development. They are of theoretical and practical significance for analyzing the visual landscape of recreational spaces from the perspective of the elderly. This analysis can be used for exploring new methods for optimizing recreational space layouts to improve the physical and mental health of the elderly in parks, thus realizing the sustainable development of urban society. Taking Ziyang Park in Shangrao Central District of Jiangxi Province, China, as an example, starting from the visual characteristics of the elderly, this study quantitatively calculated the landscape viewability, total view ratio, and water view ratio for the elderly in each recreational space using Python Scripting for ArcGIS. We briefly express the elderly suitability of the visual landscape for each recreational space through a weighted synthesis of the calculation results. Our findings show that, in Ziyang Park, the elderly suitability of the visual landscape for recreational spaces is not only low overall, but also gradually decreases from the interior to the exterior of this park. Moreover, this spatial distribution may be caused by the location of zoning, surface elevation, and road slopes, as well as the individual characteristics of each recreational space. Finally, we discuss the requirements of the elderly for some geographical factors, along with the feasibility of using ArcGIS 3-D analysis to optimize the layout of the park recreational space, with the aim of providing a new research perspective and an effective reference method for designing layouts of such spaces that are favorable for the elderly to better guarantee the sustainable development of urban society.

Abstract:Influenced by economic development and the information society, more elderly people are more willing to go to urban parks for activities. Among them, comprehensive parks are the first choice for most elderly people. However, most urban parks are currently constructed according to adult. There are very few researches and practices on the age-appropriate design of urban parks, and the richness, safety, and comfort of the elderly's activities cannot be guaranteed. In view of this situation, this paper studies the aging-appropriate design of urban comprehensive parks and proposes an aging-friendly design scheme for urban park landscapes based on computer virtual simulation technology from the four aspects of layout, type, distribution, and construction, systematically researched the activity space system for the elderly, and realized the virtual simulation display effect of urban park landscape. Research shows that the design scheme proposed in this paper solves the problem of interaction between buildings and users, breaks the traditional landscape design presentation form, and saves the cost of modification and production of traditional models, which is suitable for the aging and popularization of future urban park projects, providing an effective reference.

Abstract:The purpose of this study is to explore the audio-visual preferences of exercisers in urban forest parks in China and to make practical suggestions for park landscape design. Taking Beigushan Forest Park in Lianyungang City, Jiangsu Province as a case, based on field research and questionnaire survey, this study analyzed the audio-visual preference characteristics of exercisers in the park, revealed the correlation between audio-visual preference and exercisers’ behaviors and individual characteristics, and explored the influence of audio-visual preferences on exercise feelings by establishing a structural equation model. It was found that (1) the forest and its avenue landscape and birdsong are most preferred by exercisers; (2) the audio-visual preferences of people with different exercise forms differ, for example, people who slowly walk, run, and briskly walk have stronger preferences for natural soundscape and visual landscape, while people who use fitness equipment have stronger inclusiveness for human activity sound and prefer public facility-based landscapes. In addition, some individual characteristics such as exercise intensity and exercise frequency significantly affect exercisers’ audio-visual preferences; (3) visual landscape preferences have a greater direct impact on exercise feelings, with natural waterscape having the greatest direct impact, but overall soundscape preferences do not have a high degree of direct impact on exercise feelings, with natural sound still having a strong positive impact. These findings provide a more quantitative basis for the landscape design of urban forest parks from the perspective of exercise behavior.

Abstract:With the growing trend of population aging, parks, as an essential part of urban green space play an increasingly significant role in the daily lives of the elderly. Parks are not only good places for the elderly to take leisurely walks, but also important venues for social, cultural, and physical activities. Therefore, a deep understanding of the elderly’s expectations and needs for park landscapes is crucial for optimizing park design and enhancing the quality of park services. This article aims to study the design of elderly-friendly park landscapes with an emphasis on emotional healing. By analyzing the psychological needs of the elderly and combining park landscape design concepts, it explores how to create park landscapes that are in line with the characteristics of the elderly’s life and have emotional healing functions. This study adopts a combination of literature review and case study methods, analyzes the current issues in park landscape design, and proposes corresponding optimization strategies. The research results show that elderly-friendly park landscape design with an emphasis on emotional healing can enhance the quality of life and happiness of the elderly, which is of great significance for building an elderly-friendly society.
