Abstract:Architectural and structural design work of roof system of Yueqing Olympic Center are roughly reviewed in the present paper.The stadium with lunar shape adopts a novel type of spatial cable-frames. System constitution of this stadium is different because of braced radial cables and open-mouth hoop cable. The gymnasium and swimming arena adopt a new latticed-shell-string system with non-vertical compression bars and spatial hoop cables.Structural design of steel works of Yueqing Olympic center is in accordance with mechanical rules and restrictions but not constrained by common concepts.It is a little challengeable in some aspects.The present paper aims at roughly review of some key design techniques of new types of large-span spatial structures.Emphasis is put on the process of architectural design and structural design when they do not coincided with each other at the preliminary design stage.

Abstract:In order to overcome the existing defects of formwork used currently,a new type formwork and supports system by using reinforced polypropylene composite material as the basic material was developed.The system included wall formwork of steel skeleton plastic composite boards,plastic formwork and independent supporting system for floor.After verification,this formwork system could solve the defects that utilization rate was low,the versatility was poor,and it could not avoid casual workers to cut material.Moreover,this formwork system had the advantages of convenient use,high efficiency,low energy consumption,friend environment and so on.It is a green building formwork system.This paper introduces the development and application of the new type of formwork and supports system.

Abstract:Pretensioned long-span steel space structures are a new type of hybrid structures resulting from combining modem prestressing technology with long-span structures such as space grid structures (including space trusses and lattice shells), cable-bar tensioned structures and spatial truss structures. These structures have been developed rapidly and have found many applications in China in the recent decade. This paper provides a review of applications and developments of pretensioned long-span steel structures in China. The following topics on new technologies and new structures are given emphasis: prestressed grid structures, cable-stayed grid structures, beam string structures and prestressed segmental steel trusses. Prospects for pretensioned steel space structures in the 21st century are presented at the end of the paper.

Abstract:Compared with normal concrete, porous cement concrete has its superiority in environmental and has been used widely. The influence of the steel slag aggregate on physical and mechanical properties and durability of porous cement concrete were studied. From finite element method, several typical pavement structure forms in engineering application of porous cement concrete are put forward. Finally, application effect of porous cement concrete was introduced combined with two engineering examples: square and parking lot of Shanghai-China World Exposition Garden Area, and light transportation of Shanghai Special Olympics Training Center.

Abstract:The steel formwork support with couplers is the most commonly used form in construction,and is also one of structural forms in which accidents happen mostly in construction.To study the safety of steel formwork support in project management,a hierarchy system of safety assessment that applied analytic hierarchy process(AHP) was established on basis of survey made by formwork support experts,security experts,technicians and construction personnel.After investigation on technicians and construction personnel in 10 construction sites in terms of questionnaire,the weight of various factors in the system established.Employing fuzzy evaluation,a method and also the standard of safety assessment of formwork support construction was obtained.An illustrative example was made to show the process of this method.

Abstract:With structural steel becoming the main construction material in China, more high performance steel (HPS) is going to be applied in landmark building projects. Innovative structural systems and structural members need to be envisaged to take the advantages of HPS. The excellent properties of HPS with higher strength, moderate ductility, higher fracture toughness, better weldability, efficient machinability, can improve the structural performance significantly. The Q460 grade of structural steel has been successfully applied in the National Stadium and CCTV tower in China. It is demonstrated that the fabrication and construction efficiency of steel buildings can be improved remarkably, and economical solutions are provided by using HPS. This paper reviewed the availability of HPS in China and summarized the recent development to promote HPS in tall and large span buildings. The requirements on research to support the application of HPS in buildings are discussed.

Abstract:Multi-beam box girder bridges have been applied widely throughout the world for many years. However, the cracking of longitudinal joints between the box girders always leads to reflective cracking of the bridge decks during the service period and thus finally affects the safety and durability of the actual bridges. An embedded steel plate (ESP) strengthening method was presented by introducing carbon-A/-B glue to reinforce the longitudinal joints of old multi-beam box girder bridges for this problem. In order to evaluate the feasibility of the proposed method for actual bridges, an old multi-beam box girder bridge was reinforced, and structural parameters including strain, frequency, and deflection were obtained by adopting field tests before and after strengthening. In addition, the corresponding finite element (FE) model of the background bridge was also set up using ANASYS 18.0 to analyze the strengthening process. Analysis results of the actual bridge and FE model indicate that structural stiffness and load lateral transferring performance between the box girders were enhanced after ESP strengthening. Therefore, this proposed strengthening method can be used to improve the mechanical performance of multi-beam box girder bridges and provide reference for such bridge reinforcement.

Abstract:Taking the four-span 40m simply supported multi-box steel-concrete composite girder bridge in the ProjectⅡ of Qiushi Expressway in Hangzhou as the background, this paper analyzed the static and dynamic behaviour of the bridge by FEM, then finished a field test study for the bridge. Finally, comparing the test values with the results obtained from FEM analysis, it was verified that the rigidity transverse beam method with infinte stiffness is also adaptive to caculating and predicting the load transverse distribution of the multi-box steel-concrete composite bridge. Steel diaphragm and stiffening rib of the multi-box steel- concrete composite bridge can improve the flexural capacity of bridge to some extent, so these contributions should be reasonably considered during the design stage in order to reduce the engineering cost. The measured modes agree well with the results from FEM.

Abstract:The excellent properties of high strength steel (HSS) and high performance steel (HPS) with higher strength, higher ductility, higher facture toughness, better weldability, better machinability, as well as better corrosion resistance and fire resistance, can improve the structural performance significantly. More HSS and HPS have been applied to tall and large-span buildings as well as highway bridges. The new development in building structures requires steel industry to provide more efficient structural steel to meet the demand on material properties. The HPS of grade Q460 has been successfully applied in the National Stadium and CCTV tower in China. The benefits and advantages in fabrication and construction cost were demonstrated remarkably. However, inadequate design guidance is available to help engineers apply HSS and HPS with confidence. This paper reviews the recent development and application of HSS and HPS in tall and large span buildings. The advances on research progress of HSS and HPS for buildings were summarized. Further development on design methods and theory of applying HSS and HPS in buildings are proposed.

Abstract:Orthotropic steel decks (OSDs) have been widely used in long-span bridges due to their advantages of being lightweight, having high capacity, and allowing rapid construction. However, due to the insufficiency of local stiffness of OSD, fatigue cracking and pavement damage have been common problems of OSDs worldwide. It seriously affects the safety and durability of long-span bridges. Therefore, to solve this problem, this paper introduces an innovative steel ultrahigh-performance concrete (steel-UHPC) lightweight composite deck (LWCD). LWCD can reduce the fatigue stress of the conventional OSD by up to 80% and extend the fatigue life to twice the design requirements. Furthermore, engineering practices in China have proven that LWCD can effectively reduce manufacturing costs and maintenance costs throughout the whole life cycle of the structures. Thus, to provide references for design and maintenance of long-span bridges, this paper introduces the structural design, construction techniques, joint construction design, repair methods, and economic benefits of LWCD in detail. Furthermore, numerical simulations and laboratory tests are introduced in this paper to validate the superiority of LWCD.

Abstract:The development history and the background of timber structures of China were reviewed.The enormous pressure from environmental protection was also described.The necessity for the use of green building and green construction technology was stated.It was noted that wood was a kind of renewable resource,and glued laminated timber(glulam)structures had gained an extensive use for its green property and high performance.The application fields of glulam structures had covered the large-span public buildings and bridges.It was familiar to the developed countries and appeared some large scale glulam structures in China in recent years.Furthermore,the design and the fabrication level were rapidly improved.Finally,it was pointed out that glulam structures had a good prospects in China.

Abstract:A new type floor structure,laminated floor structure with precast light-gauge reinforced concrete hollow slab,is developed in order to improve the mechanic performance and industrialization level of floor structure for multi-layer steel residence.The feasibility of research is investigated through modeling a 1:1 one-layer steel frame structure with new type floor structure in practice.Stresses and deflections of the steel beams and floor structures were measured during the construction and loading test.Finite element analysis is then carried out to verify the experimental results.The result shows that the loading capacity of this new type floor structure is far beyond the expected value and it has very high safety margin.Moreover,it increases the construction speed and enhances the level of housing industrialization.

Abstract:The gymnasium in Beijing Institute of Technology is composed of reinforced concrete frame-shear walls and a steel roof which is made up of two robust truss-arches and ten curved spatial trusses.The main truss-arches that support the steel roof are built from a number of parallelogram trusses while the curved spatial trusses are formed by the triangular section trusses.With the finite element analysis,the steel roof trusses have been analyzed in different load cases to check their strength.Linear elastic buckling load and ultimate load-carrying capacity of the main truss-arch have been obtained,and then its strength evaluation is given from the obtained results.The distribution of concrete stress and cracks at concrete abutments are analyzed under three different load cases,and some helpful suggestions are proposed finally.

Abstract:Composite steel-concrete beams have recently been widely applied in actual constructionin China. In this paper, research work on composite steel-concrete beams in China during the past 20 years is introduced. The concerned specifications of three published design codes are also introduced. Details of the design and construction of some structures built with composite beams are presented: a composite floor system in a power plant building, a 150m span arch bridge with decks of prestressed composite beams, and strengthening of an old reinforced concrete bridge with composite beams to sustain heavier vehicles. Finally, the prospect of composite beams in China and some of the research needed are briefly described.

Abstract:Steel bridge has the advantages of large span capacity, fast installation speed, easy transportation, easy repair and replacement, and has been widely used in practical engineering. The bridge deck pavement of the steel bridge is a crucial link in the whole building and cannot be ignored. For the long span steel bridge, the bridge deck generally has the phenomenon of fatigue cracking, and the service life is difficult to reach the expected life. Laying a multi-layered protective layer structure on the orthotropic steel bridge deck can not only protect the steel bridge deck, but also increase the service life of the bridge. It also provides support and guarantee for the safety and comfort of the bridge. In addition, it effectively reduces vibration and noise caused by driving. Firstly, the advantages and disadvantages of the three types of steel bridge deck pavement technology commonly used in China are discussed in this paper, the merits of different deck paving techniques are pointed out. Then, the construction technology of the lower cast type + SMA pavement structure is analyzed in combination with a steel bridge deck construction case and the quality standard of steel bridge surface construction mixture and the inspection requirement of SMA construction quality are given in order to provide some reference for similar projects. Steel bridge has the advantages of large span capacity, fast installation speed, easy transportation, easy repair and replacement, and has been widely used in practical engineering. With the progress and development of bridge industry in a country, the application of orthotropic steel bridge deck in long-span bridges is becoming more and more common. In the design of steel bridge deck pavement structure, each pavement layer has its own emphasis on the performance, so as to provide support and guarantee for bridge deck traffic. To sum up, in view of a large number of engineering experience, in view of the design and application of a bridge in the form of “lower cast asphalt concrete top layer epoxy asphalt concrete”, considering the advantages of superior deformation chasing and excellent strength and high temperature stability of epoxy asphalt concrete, the author puts forward higher requirements for the construction technology and construction technology of steel deck pavement.

Abstract:Assembled steel structure residential houses have the significant advantages of light weight, high strength and a high degree of utilization of space, which is an important development direction of the future residential industry for meeting the strategic needs of China's "four sections -environmental protection", sustainable development of the construction industry, and the technical requirements of industrialization of housing construction. This paper reviews and summarizes the current status and research progress on the static performance and seismic performance of fabricated multi-story steel column-column connections, including connection types, tests, finite element analysis, etc. These results provide a reference for the further research work and establishing the design methods on column-column connections in the steel structures, as is expected to promote the application of the column-column connections in China's steel structure engineering.
