Humanist Education and the British Renaissance Notion of Woman

Abstract:Women or “woman” is a very familiar but catching word that appears frequently in the texts of the English Renaissance authors. “She” is cultivated as the image of the ideal woman: humble, submissive, quite, sexually chaste, pious and obedient to appropriate male authority. With this in mind, the present author attempts to look into the writings of authors like Thomas More and Thomas Elyot with reference to the humanist views of education expounded in their works, hoping to highlight their renaissance concept of woman.
