Abstract:An efficient and practical synthesis of optically pure β-pyrazole-substituted alcohols was achieved by an asymmetric ring-opening reaction of meso-epoxides with pyrazole derivatives as the nucleophile. In the presence of 1 mol % of an N,N'-dioxide-Sc(OTf)(3) complex, excellent enantioselectivity and yields were obtained from meso-epoxides. The process could also be used for a mixture of cis- and trans-stilbene oxides. A proposed transition-state model is provided.

Abstract:(R,R)-N,N'-dimethyl-N,N'-bis(2-pyridylmethyl)cyclohexane-1,2-diamine (R,R-mcp) and the corresponding R,R-mcp-MnIIOTf2 complex were synthesized. Chrial manganese complex was used for the asymmetric epoxidation of α,β-unsaturated ketones. The amount of catalyst and oxidant were examined and then the scope of substrates was tested in the conditions of substrates∶H2O2 ∶CH3COOH=1∶6∶5 and the ee values were obtained in the range of 56-70%.

Abstract:Here, we report a chiral copper(II)-bisoxazoline-catalyzed enantioselective ring opening of cyclic diaryliodonium salts with heteroaryl thiols. The readily available 2-mercaptoben-zoxazole and 2-mercaptobenzothiazole derivatives reacted efficiently with cyclic diaryliodonium salts and afforded various axially chiral biaryls bearing iodine and sulfur functional groups in excellent yields and enantioselectivities. The products were further transformed into diverse enantiopure alkyl biaryl sulfides, which can be employed as chiral ligands.

Abstract:A chiral heterobimetallic Lewis acid complex has been developed as an efficient catalyst. The enantioselective desymmetrization of meso-epoxides with aryl selenols and thiols catalyzed by the heterobimetallic complex has been optimized. The optically active beta-arylseleno alcohols and beta-hydroxy sulfides were obtained in good yields and high enantioselectivities (up to 97% ee and 92% ee, respectively). A strong synergistic effect between different Lewis acids was exhibited in the catalytic process.

Abstract:A dimeric salen ligand derived from L-tartaric acid was synthesized through linking two salen units with 1,6-dibromohexane. The corresponding Ti complex was proved to be an efficient catalyst for asymmetric addition of trimethylsilyl cyanide to aldehydes, providing the corresponding optically active trimethylsilyl ether of cyanohydrins with moderate to good enantiomeric excesses and excellent yields under relatively low catalyst loading condition.

Abstract:A highly enantioselective method toward oxidative kinetic resolution of 2-arylcycloalkanols has been established, wherein easily available chiral Mn(III)-salen complex ( 0.5 mol% ) serves as an efficient catalyst and NBS as oxidant. This method represents a successful and practical example for enantioselective production of substituted 2-arylcycloalkanols owing to its broad substrate scope, high stereocontrol as well as easy extending to gram scale.

Abstract:Chiral N-oxide salen ligands and their corresponding Al complexes were synthesized. Notably, the catalytic activity and asymmetric induction ability of the bifunctional N-oxide salen-Al for asymmetric cyanosilylation were compared with that of bi-component catalyst system including chiral pyrrolidine salen–Al complex and Ph3PO. Interestingly, introducing N-oxide group in salen unit could enhance the activity and enantioselectivity of bifunctional catalyst without further adding Ph3PO as co-catalyst and inverse configurations were generated from the two systems. In addition, excellent yields and high ee values could be obtained under milder conditions in bifunctional catalyst system compared with that of bi-component catalyst system.

Abstract:The Biaryl-bridged Salen Ti complexes are a high active catalyst at substrate-to-catalyst ratios as high as 1 000:1 in the reaction of asymmetric addition of trimethylsilyl cyanide to aldehydes,and the optimal catalyst 4 derived from(R,R)-1,2-diaminocyclohexane and 3,5-di-tert-butyl-2-hydroxybenzaldehyde produces trimethylsilyl ethers of cyanohydrins with up to 87% enantiomeric excess at ambient temperature.

Abstract:Substrate-directed enantioselective olefin epoxidation was limited to a few types of directing groups and relatively low catalyst activities. Herein, an expeditious asymmetric epoxidation protocol is reported for allylic amides and sulfonamides using a hafnium-BINAM-salen catalyst with high enantioselectivity and turnover frequency. Aryl carboxamides of allylic amines with a trisubstituted olefin motif were suitable substrates. Sequential intramolecular ring-opening in a one-pot reactor furnished highly enantiopure oxazoline alcohols. Crystallographic studies suggested the catalyst possessed a mononuclear cis-alpha configuration. Computational studies of the transition state indicated that this conversion underwent a substrate-directed pathway.

Abstract:A series of chiral 1,1'-binaphthyl-2,2'-disulfonic acids was designed, synthesized, and applied in a highly enantioselective Ti-catalyzed intramolecular hydroalkoxylation of nonactivated alkenes. The catalyst is probably a complex between two chiral binaphthyldisulfonate ligands and a bis(mu-oxo)-dititanium(IV) core structure. The sulfonamide groups of the ligands and water are necessary for the catalysis, as they may stabilize the catalytically active complex through hydrogen bonding. Various 2-methylcoumarans were obtained in up to greater than 99% yields and up to 97% enantiomeric excess under mild conditions.

Abstract:The authors prepared the heterogeneous chiral catalyst Co(Salen)/SBA-16-C8 or Ru-TsDPEN/SBA-16-2Ph in which a chiral metal complex was entrapped in the cage of SBA-16 by modifying the entrance pore size of the cage using silylation (eq. 1). The catalytic performance of the encapsulated complexes for the asymmetric ring-opening reaction of epoxides [Co(Salen)/SBA-16-C8, eq. 2] and the asymmetric transfer hydrogenation of ketones (Ru-TsDPEN/SBA-16-2Ph, eq. 3) were comparable to their homogeneous counterparts.
