Abstract:PrPSc is an infectious particle without nucleic acids,and the conformational alteration of the cellular prion protein(PrPC)to the form of insoluble and protease-resistant PrPSc leads to the transmissible spongiform encephalopathy.PrPC is a normal cell membrane protein,and plays an important role in the regulation of many signal pathways.Elucidating the physiologica functions of the PrPC in the infected cells is helpful to understand the molecular bases of occurrence and progression of the prion disease,and therefore provide the foundation for future diagnosis and treatment.
