Abstract:A virtual absolute optical encoder and decoder system is presented.It has advantages of high precision,compact structure and reliable output.The paper contains the characteristic of the encoder and coding theory,the stable electronic interpolation,and the achievement of high precision address by combining the INDEX signal and the interpolation result through ADC.Finally,it utilizes FPGA to build an embedded system,and achieves a reliable repeatable positioning system.The results show that the whole system can work well with stable and reliable outputs.

Abstract:The majority of encoder signal process circuits only support one type of the specific photoelectric encoder, either absolute encoder or incremental encoder. In order to realize the compatibility for both two types of encoders simultaneously, a novel encoder signal process circuit based on FPGA is presented in this paper. Firstly, a series of universal functions are analyzed and demonstrated. On this basis, the approaches on multiplexing interfaces is designed and verified by simulation. Importantly, the compatibility is solved by multiplexing pins of the IC chip in terms of the hardware interface. As for the software interface, FPGA internal signal acquisition and processing programs deal with the different encoder protocols. Finally, two different types of encoders are concurrently connected to the circuit for system testing. The result indicates that the real-time angular position curve is smooth and the measured angle value is accurately displayed on the host computer. Consequently, the stability and compatibility are successfully proven. Besides, those expensive dedicated interface circuits could be replaced by the proposed circuit, as well as the costs can be significantly reduced. The circuit is ideal for applications requiring high resolution and fast data acquisition in industrial control fields.

Abstract:The hardware description language VHDL is applied to design the incremental encoder interface circuit in this paper.The four times frequency,the two-way count function and the ARM interface definition of the encoder can be realized by the circuit.The sequential simulation results of VHDL are given in the Quartus II.The real-time signal values generated when ARM communicated with FPGA are acquired by the online logical analyzer of the Quartus II,which verify the feasibility of the design.

Abstract:A FPGA-based full-digital NC system is designed, various functions such as servo control, USB communication control, encoder signal control and digital-analog expansion interface control are integrated in the FPGA. The direct digital communication between CNC and drive system as well as other peripherals are realized in this system. The method of direct digital communication and the designing process of USB controller are expatiated; a brief introduction of software NC device based on standard PC is given; simulation results indicate that this structure solves the question which traditional numerical control system need to process digital-analog conversion between transmission process and the realize direct digital communications.

Abstract:This paper studies the method of signal acquisition for the incremental photoelectric encoder based on FPGA. According to the specification of the photoelectric encoder, corresponding interface circuit is designed. With FPGA as the main control module, the peripheral circuit can work together harmoniously. The simulation analysis shows that results of frequency subdivision and direction discrimination are correct under the control of FPGA (Field Programmable Gate Array). A ZSP3806 photoelectric encoder is used as the sensor to detect the position of mirror scanning mechanism, and experimental result indicates that the angular displacement of measured value is consistent with theoretical requirements.

Abstract:The serial ports must be expanded when the flight controlling computer communicates with exterior devices by multi-serial communi-cation,with the characteristic of too many pins and big figure,usual Universal Asynchronous Receiver/Transmitter(UART) chip makes the circuit large and high-consumed.Aiming at these problems,this paper chooses a Field Programmable Gate Array(FPGA) chip,programming with verilog HDL,designs and integrates ten UART cells,data-receive controller,data-send controller and dual-port Random Access Memory(RAM),achieves ten channels of serial communication of the flight controlling computer,and manages to make the circuit much simpler.It is confirmed that the design scheme is correct by simulating and test the design result with ISE9.1i.

Abstract:This paper describes the design and development of a computer interface experimental platform based on the recent FPGA.The new type of FPGA features increased logic density,embedded high-speed transceivers,PCIe core,and DSP processing piece[1].Its software tools can support logic design,embedded development,Matlab binding,simulation,debugging,and co-design of hardware and software.Therefore,the experimental platform can expand the interface design capabilities.Not only the hardware interface in logical way and system in programmable chip(SOPC) with this platform can be designed,but also the experiments of the DSP signal processing can be done.After the experimental platform is used for teaching,the students can learn the international leading hardware design technologies,so that the contents of the teaching experiments are close to the actual needs of the industry.

Abstract:A kind of data collection system of multiple encoders is introduced based on FPGA,including function,principle,programme and circuit.The four primary functions are introduced,such as four fold-frequency subdivision,direction-judgment,counter and serial communication.The four fold-frequency subdivision is realized on the basis of scarp of wave shape,and the direction-judgment is realized on the basis of phase change after analyzing wave shape.The programme is in Quartus II,and the design is based on EPF10K20TC144-3 of Altera,and the resolution is 1″.The programme is described in details with simulation waveform.

Abstract:In this paper, the design of RS(255,223) encoder and decoder is introduced, which use multiplier in GF(28) with different structures according to their different characteristics. The encoder is designed using polynomial division and parallel structure; the decoder is designed using Euclid Algorithm, and its key module adopts series-parallel combination structure. FPGA implementation of this algorithm is given. According to top-to-down design flow, the encoder and decoder described in this paper decrease the resource usage furthest at an acceptable speed.

Abstract:This paper presents an analysis of the advantages stemming from the application of field-programmable gate arrays (FPGAs) in servo drives used within the control systems of industrial numerical machine tools. The method of improving the control system that allows for increasing the precision of machining, as well as incorporating new functionalities and streamlining diagnostic processes, is described. As demonstrated, the utilization of digital controllers with robust computational power and high-performance real-time communication interfaces is essential for achieving these objectives. This study underscores the limitations of commonly employed digital controllers in servo drives, which are constructed based on microcontrollers or signal processors collaborating with application-specific integrated circuits (ASICs). In contrast, the proposed FPGA-based solution offers substantial computational power and significantly reduced latencies in the real-time communication interface compared to other examined alternatives. This enables the realization of the planned objectives, specifically the enhancement of technical parameters and diagnostic capabilities of machine tools. Furthermore, the research indicates that FPGA-based digital controllers exhibit relatively low power consumption and a simplified design of the electronic printed circuit board in comparison to other analyzed digital platforms. These features can contribute to heightened reliability and diminished production costs of such controllers. Additional conclusions drawn from the study indicate that FPGA-based controllers provide greater developmental possibilities and their production is marked by potential resilience to challenges associated with the availability of electronic components in the market.

Abstract:With the continuous advancement of numerical control technology, the requirements for the position detection resolution, precision, and size of photoelectric encoders in computer numerical control machine tools are increasingly stringent. In the pursuit of high resolution and precision, this work investigates the principles of electronic subdivision and embedded hardware. It designs a high-precision image-based photonic encoder using a Field-Programmable Gate Array (FPGA). This photonic encoder captures the pattern of a rotating code disk using a complementary metal-oxide-semiconductor (CMOS) image sensor. The encoder’s core is the XC6SLX25T chip from the Spartan-6 series, with peripheral circuits including only A/D sampling and low-pass signal processing circuits. The FPGA module handles the digital signal reception, waveform conversion, quadrature frequency coarse count calculation, fine count subdivision calculation, and final position calculation of the encoder. In experiments, the output signal of the photonic encoder contains many impurities. After processing by the signal processing module, the A and B phase signals are not affected by previous interference, with a phase difference of 90°, meeting the requirements for subsequent signal processing modules. After fine count subdivision processing, the waveform graph significantly increases within one cycle, and after quadrupling the frequency, 30 subdivisions are performed within each cycle. Noise is introduced into graphic positioning or graphics are positioned under different noise conditions. Experimental results show that utilizing an improved centroid algorithm helps further suppress noise and enhance measurement accuracy in the design of image-based photonic encoders.

Abstract:It is a hot topic to design decoders of low-density parity-check(LDPC) codes with high performance and low complexity.The encoders of LDPC codes are suitable for FPGA implementations according to oretical analyses.This paper introduces how to implement the QSBC-LDPC encoders with the Stratix Ⅱ FPGA of the Altera Company,with a chosen QSBC-LDPC code.Due to different demands of practical systems,both ″Full-Speed″ structure for the high coding speed and the ″Least-Resource″ structure for low resources consumed are proposed.The structures have practical value for implementing Gbit/s throughput.

Abstract:Among various nanometer-level displacement measurement methods, grating interferometry-based linear encoders are widely used due to their high robustness, relatively low cost, and compactness. One trend of grating encoders is multi-axis measurement capability for simultaneous precision positioning and small order error motion measurement. However, due to both lack of suitable hardware data processing platform and of a real-time displacement calculation system, meeting the requirements of real-time data processing while maintaining the nanometer order resolutions on all these axes is a challenge. To solve above-mentioned problem, in this paper we introduce a design and experimental validation of a field programmable gate array (FPGA)-cored real-time data processing platform for grating encoders. This platform includes the following functions. First, a front-end photodetector and I/V conversion analog circuit are used to realize basic analog signal filtering, while an eight-channel parallel, 16-bit precision, 200 kSPS maximum acquisition rate Analog-to-digital (ADC) is used to obtain digital signals that are easy to process. Then, an FPGA-based digital signal processing platform is implemented, which can calculate the displacement values corresponding to the phase subdivision signals in parallel and in real time at high speed. Finally, the displacement result is transferred by USB2.0 to the PC in real time through an Universal Asynchronous Receiver/Transmitter (UART) serial port to form a complete real-time displacement calculation system. The experimental results show that the system achieves real-time data processing and displacement result display while meeting the high accuracy of traditional offline data solution methods, which demonstrates the industrial potential and practicality of our absolute two-dimensional grating scale displacement measurement system.
