Abstract:The discoloring treatment of the pulping medium wastewater treated by biochemical method was researched by the multi metallic ion coagulant. The results showed that this coagulant treatment could gain 80% of discoloring rate,but the CODCr removing rate was only about 30%.

Abstract:Chemi-thermo-mechanical pulping (CTMP) wastewater has high chemical oxygen demand (COD), which inhibits the activity of microorganisms during biological oxidations. Conventional wastewater treatment technologies such as dissolved air flotation, coagulation, and biological treatment, are insufficient to treat the CTMP wastewater to meet the environmental requirements. There remains a need for advanced wastewater treatment technologies, which can be integrated into existing wastewater treatment processes to improve the end-of-pipe water quality. In this study, a heterogeneous electrochemical oxidation process was developed to treat chemi-thermo-mechanical pulp mill wastewater. The Ti substrate anodes were prepared by thermal decomposition and electro-deposition, and characterized by SEM and Tafel curve. The impacts of electrode modification, flowrate, current density, and aeration on the process efficiency were investigated. COD and color density were used to evaluate the removal efficiency of organic pollutants. Results show that the Ti/SnO 2 +Sb 2 O 3 +MnO 2 /PbO 2 electrode exhibited the best performance in terms of COD and color removal efficiency. SEM observation revealed that the electrode surface was smooth and compact, with numerous uniform micro pores of which the inner walls were covered with tiny crystals. Under the studied conditions, color removal reached 90%, while COD removal was about 60%.

Abstract:In the present paper the color characteristics of Chemi-thermomechanical pulp (CTMP) wastewater were studied by ultrafiltration and acid adjusting, and a novel electrochemical method, electro-fenton process, was applied on the treatment of CTMP wastewater. CTMP wastewater produces toxic pollutants which are not easily biodegradable and requiring costly physical or physical-chemical pretreatment. That forms the barrier for the industrial application of eucalyptus CTMP. Electro-fenton proces is based on the generation of very reactive species such as hydroxyl radicals. Owing to their high oxidation potential (E-0=2:80 V), the OH radicals were extra-ordinarily reactive oxidants and can attack the most part of organic molecules and decompose most organic compound parts into carbon dioxide. The main influencing factors were investigated to get the optimum conditions according to the removal ratio of CODCr and color unit. The optimum conditions were obtained by singular factor comparing experiments. The results showed that with pH value as 5.0, current density as 80A(.)m(-2), reaction time as 60min, temperature as 30 degrees C, and aeration rate as 2.1 L(.)min(-1), an encouraging result was that its color removal ratio was above 90% and CODCr removal ratio was above 60%. In conclusion electro-fenton process was a promising wastewater treating method for CTMP wastewater.

Abstract:A synergistic combination of electrocoagulation and electrooxidation was introduced for the treatment of CTMP wastewater in which most of the colloids and charged species had been removed by electrocoagulatio, then small organics could be mineralized by electrooxidation effectively. The mainly influencing factors for electrocoagulation such as electrolyte, sodium chloride dosage, voltage intensity, current intensity and reaction time were assessed. The optimum conditions were obtained, and the results showed that sodium chloride dosage of 1 g/L, voltage intensity of 7.5V, current intensity of 0.6A, 60 min reaction time, its color removal rate was above 90% and CODCr removal rate was about 40%. After electrocoagulation the electrooxidation could further reduce CODCr above 80%.

Abstract:A new method for treating dyeing waste water with iron filings, flue gas or gas ashes as treating agent is introduced. The treatment mechanism is discussed and the proper treating conditions and technological procedures are suggested. The experimental results show that when the ratio of treating agent is 4:6, pH values of iron filings filtering and coagulation absorption are controlled at 4～5 and 8～9 respectively, treating time is 20～30min, the rate of dislodgement and decolouring after treating can reach over 90%; all the values of COD are less than 100mg/L; the waste water becomes clear and transparent; and all the quality indexes of water conform with the national dischange standards.

Abstract:High biological toxicity, low reused efficiency, serious pollution, complex treatment process and high treatment cost were the typical characteristics of copper wastewater. The summary revealed advanced progress in treatment and resource utilization of copper containing wastewater. For summarizing features, advantages and disadvantages of various methods, the review analyzed precipitation, adsorption, electrochemistry, wet oxidation-reduction, ion exchange and Fe/C micro electrolysis. It pointed out that the scheme of integration of special combination processes with resource utilization was the key development direction.

Abstract:In this work,immobilized mycelial pellets were applied to decolorize several dyestuffs.Good results were obtained indicating the high decolorization ability of the pellets.The same pellets could be repeatedly used to treat Acid Orange 7 for at least 10 times and every time over 97% color removal was obtained within 24?h.Good decolorization effect was also observed with 3 other dyestuffs.The presence of a co-substrate glucose was necessary for decolorization by mycelium pellets.In the continuous reactor,both Acid Orange solution and non-sterile dying waste water were treated by immobilized mycelial pellets. With dilution rate 0.0056?h -1,aeration rate 1.1?L·min -1,color removal rate of Acid Orange is 97%.With dilution rate 0.014?h -1,aeration rate 1.4?L·min -1,93.5% color reduction of dying waste water was obtained.No loss in decolorization ability of the mycelium was noted when the reactor was operated continuously for more than 5?d.

Abstract:Experimental research for wastewater processing has been carried out on the activated dye wastewater from cotton-printing and dyeing by using a chemical coagulation method with MgSO4 as coagulation agent and anion polyacrylamide as coagulant aid. It shows that the pH is of the substantial effect on decolorization. When the pH is greater than 12.0,decolorization rate approaches stable. Decolorization and COD removal rate all increase with the increase of MgSO4 addition. The floc settling time becomes shorter by adding a little anion polyacrylamide. It has been confirmed that the decolorization rate is above 90%,COD removal rate is greater than 80%. Clearly, the combined processing method is suitable for the activated dye wastewater treatment.

Abstract:Textile wastewaters from alkali reduction, printing and dyeing operations are usually highly basic, turbid and have many COD and color constituents present in high concentrations; therefore, effective pretreatment is required to make them biotreatable. Direct acidification of one such wastewater failed because it resulted in heavy production of colloidal products. Coagulation and flocculation, using 800~1 500 mg/L of MgSO_ 4 and 2 mg/L of a high molecular weight organic flocculant HPAM, and followed by acidification to a pH of <3.0, achieved excellent pretreatment performance; COD, color intensity and turbidity of the wastewater sample were reduced by 92%, 97%, and nearly 100%, respectively.

Abstract:The treatment of pulping effluent by ultrasonic strengthened Fenton process was carried out. Based on the orthogonal test and single factor test, the effects of every main factor on color and CODCr removal rate were investigated. The results showed that the removal rates of color and CODCr of the effluent are 91.3% and 69.2% under the conditions as ultrasonic frequency of 28 kHz, output power of 1000 W, initiate pH value of the effluent is 3.0, treatment time is 11min and concentrations of Fe 2+ and H 2O 2 are 50 mg/L and 0.9 mg/L respectively.

Abstract:Industrial and remedial processes produce wastewater containing chelated heavy metal. Chelated heavy metal containing wastewater needs to be treated not only for the toxic heavy metal, but also for the chelating agent. The treatment of strong stability chelated heavy metal wastewater is a hot and difficult issue in these years. To solve this problem, a novel strategy, advanced Fenton-chemical precipitation process (AF-CPP) is proposed to address chelated heavy metal containing wastewater. The process uses zero-valent iron and hydrogen peroxide for degrading the chelated compound, followed by alkali precipitation of heavy metal. NiEDTA was selected as a model of strong stability of chelated heavy metal pollutant. This process can remove not only nickel ions, but also reduces COD values. Parameters affecting nickel removal are discussed. At optimum condition, the nickel removal efficiency attained was 98.4% and the residual concentrations of nickel fell below the value stipulated in Integrated Wastewater Discharge Standard of China (GB8978-1996). AF-CPP appears promising and effective for the treatment of strong stability chelated heavy metal containing wastewaters.
Decolorization of Dyeing Wastewater by Coagulation

Abstract:The dyeing wastewater of Foshan Xiqiao Textile industry Park was treated by coagulation and biological processes.The coagulation and decolorization performance and the cost were analyzed by ferrous sulfate(FeSO4),polymeric aluminium(PAC),F3 decolorizer and A6 decolorizer.The result showed that the A6 decolorizer produces less sludge,lower cost and better treatment results for removing the COD and color from raw water.In the dosage of 20mg/L,the COD and color removal rate were 32.7 % and76.9 %,respectively.In practical operation,the average COD removal rate was 39.4 %,and the color removal rate was more than 90 %.

Abstract:Treatment of dye wastewater with electrochemical oxidation and ferric coagulation was investigated. Results showed that these two processes were mutually complementary. After being treated by these two combined processes, effluents from dye-synthesizing factories can be successfully decolorized and organic pollutants be greatly degraded and its biodegradability was enhanced as well. It is concluded that it is an effective method to treat dye wastewater with the combination of these two steps.

Abstract:The treatment of the pulp and paper mill secondary effluent by coagulation of aluminum sulfate and ferric chloride was investigated.The results show that when the amount of aluminum sulfate is 600 mg/L or the amount of ferric chloride is 300 mg/L with no pH adjustment,the effluents are according with the discharge standard at the present stage with the COD lower than 150 mg/L and the color lower than 50 fold.And the comparison of the coagulants shows the treatment efficiencies are comparative under the optimized conditions,but the cost of aluminum sulfate coagulation is cheaper than ferric chloride.So it indicates that aluminum sulfate coagulation is one of the effective methods for the tertiary treatment.

Abstract:Coagulation process using aluminum sulfate was employed as an advanced treatment method for biologically treated yeast wastewater in this paper. Factors such as solution pHcoagulant dosage, coagulant aids (flocculant), and mixing conditions that influence COD and color removal efficiency were experimentally tested. Coagulation mechanism using aluminum sulfate was studied as well. The results show that the optimum dosage of the coagulant increases with the increase in initial pH. In the pH range tested, the appropriate initial pH should be higher than 7 to ensure effective removal of colorants. Cationic polyacrylamide (PAM) significantly reduced the effluent turbidity, hence enhancing removal efficiency. Mixing conditions, particularly the mixing rate, have some effect on coagulation efficiency. The appropriate rate was determined to be between 300 and 500 rpm. Under optimal conditions, the removal efficiency of COD and color reached 72% and 90% respectively. The coagulation mechanism was discussed as well. Basically, charge neutralization plays the predominant role.

Abstract:The iron-carbon micro-electrolysis-lime coagulation combined process is used to treat the high-salt dye wastewater.The influence of reaction time,pH,and the volume ratio of iron to carbon is studied.The best treastment conditions are determined.The results show that when the electrolysis reaction time is 5 h,the pH is 3,the volume ratio of iron to carbon in the iron-carbon micro-electrolysis unit is 1∶2,the effluent pH of the micro-electrolysis unit is alkalized to about 9 by lime,and coagulative precipitation is 3 h,then the wastewater COD and color removal rate can reach 40.09% and 60.1%,respectively.The biodegradability of wastewater increases to 0.32,reaching the pretreatment effect.

Abstract:In this study, based on the water quality characteristics of metal degreasing cleaning wastewater, wastewater treatment by coagulation combined with two-stage Fenton oxidation was proposed. The results showed that when the dosage of polyaluminium chloride (PAC) was 5 g/L and the dosage of cationic polyacrylamide (CPAM) was 8 mg/L, with an initial pH of 8, rapid stirring at 350 rpm for 3 min followed by slow stirring at 200 rpm for 15 min, the optimal removal rate of chemical oxygen demand (COD) in metal degreasing cleaning wastewater reached 74.08%. Primary Fenton oxidation is mainly aimed at decomposing macromolecular long-chain pollutants and removing some pollutants. The highest COD removal rate was achieved at 95.07% when the dosage of H2O2 was 4 mol/L, the dosage of FeSO4 was 40 g/L, the oxidation lasted for 60 min, the initial pH was 2, the effluent pH was 8, and the settling time was 90 min. The two-stage Fenton oxidation process provided further advanced treatment. With a reagent ratio of 1:0.5, the effluent COD concentration was reduced to 457 mg/L, meeting the third-class standard of the 'Integrated Wastewater Discharge Standard' (GB 8978 − 1996).

Abstract:A new coagulant of calcic and aluminum HCA was used to decolorize the CTMP wastewater. The results showed that in the condition of pH 4 to pH 7 and the dosage of HCA 4ml to 7ml per 100ml wastewater, the color of CTMP effluent could be decreased from 25600C.U. to below 80C.U. with the increase of biodegradation of wastewater. The mechanisms of decolorization were analyzed by UV/VIS spectrometer, FT-IR instrument and GC-MS spectrometer, the results showed that it was the flocculation with lignin structure could the coagulant of calcic and aluminum got good effects of decolorization.

Abstract:Printing and dyeing industry is one of largest water consumption industries. High colourity, large COD and pH values are the main characteristics of dyeing wastewater, in which color varies frequently during the production. Conventional biochemical treatment has reached its technical limit and is hard to improve its treatment effectiveness. Firstly, treatment of real dyeing wastewater by electrocoagulation with iron or aluminium electrode was studied in a dying factory in the paper. The improvement of COD and colority, change of pH, and power and electrode consumption were analyzed and the relative parameters are selected in the paper. Secondly, the simulation experiment by combination of DC electrocoagulation and biochemical method was made in a factory and has been continued for six months. The experimental result shows that the combination method is complementary to each other and combines the advantages of two methods. It can decrease COD and colourity efficiently with wide pH arrange, simple techniques, convenient operation and low cost.

Abstract:Printing and dyeing wastewater treated by two-stage bio-treatment plant was further treated by the high-efficiency coagulation precipitation - filtration process with precipitation sludge return.The experimental results show that when the dosage of poly aluminum chloride is 160 mg/L,the average removal rates of COD and TP are 34.6%and 87.9%respectively,and the average effluent TP is 0.3 mg/L.The analysis results of GC-MS and AES-ICP indicate that the coagulation process has good effects on organics and TP removal.
