Abstract:Theories on Guanxi being developed and improved becomes the focus for researchers in the fields of sociology,psychology,management and anthropology.Guanxi acts with cultural,transferable,reciprocal,intangible,utilitarian and long-term characteristics.Guanxi is formed with cultural,political and social reasons.Guanxi is influenced by organizational,strategic,institutional and individual factors.The outcomes of Guanxi are performance improvement,individual knowledge transferring and trust increasing.According to domestic and foreign literatures,this paper reviews Guanxi researchs and points out the future research directions.
The Mediation Of In-Group Identification Between Collectivism And Knowledge Sharing

Abstract:Knowledge sharing has been highlighted as a desirable behavior in organizations since it contributes significantly to firms' innovation and competitive advantage. One important way to promote knowledge sharing in organizations is through promoting employees' collectivism, or collectivist orientation, as it is shown that employees' collectivist orientation has positive effect on knowledge sharing through the partial mediating role of in-group identification. In this study, we want to follow on this cultural perspective on knowledge sharing by investigating how precisely collectivism affects knowledge sharing at the various dimensions that are known to constitute collectivism. Drawing on empirical data from a questionnaire survey with 512 knowledge sensitive Chinese employees, we have several findings. First, we highlight that collectivism affects knowledge sharing at its different dimensions. Secondly, we find that at different dimensions of collectivism in-group identification plays different mediating roles. Thirdly, we also find that at certain dimensions of collectivism, collectivism's effect on the sharing of common and key knowledge is also different. Overall, our study enriches the cultural perspective on knowledge sharing by articulating in details how collectivism affects knowledge sharing through in-group identification.

Abstract:First,a review for the dimensions of perceived organizational support is made,and then,by focusing on different sources of support,a multi-dimensional concept model for Chinese employee perceived organizational support is brought forward.On the basis of previous studies and interviews,the scale of perceived organizational support for Chinese employee is developed.Through exploring its latent factor structure and testing the fitness of the model with data,the results show that perceived organizational support for Chinese employee is composed of perceived organizational institution support,perceived organizational institution guarantee,perceived task-oriented supervisor support,perceived relation-oriented supervisor support,perceived job-related colleague support,and perceived life-related colleague support.The results expand and deepen the research categories and content systems involving organizational support theory.

Abstract:This paper develops a theoretical framework on the construct and antecedents of organizational cohesiveness by a case study.And tests it by two samples.One contains 130 employees,representing a sample from practical sector.The other is composed of 8 subject matter experts who have academic background.The results suggest that organizational cohesiveness has six dimensions:employee centripetalism,leader cohesiveness,task cooperation,interpersonal harmony,benefit sharing,and value commitment.They decipher organizational cohesiveness at the individual,group,and organizational levels respectively.Nine antecedents are found to influence organizatoinal cohesiveness in the Chinese cultural background.Implications for the theory are discussed,and future research directions offered.

Abstract:Objective: The aim of this study was to review literature relevant to cohesion measurement, explore developing measurement approaches, and provide theoretical and practical recommendations for optimizing cohesion measurement. Background: Cohesion is essential for team effectiveness and performance, leading researchers to focus attention on understanding how to enhance it. However, cohesion is inconsistently defined and measured, making it difficult to compare findings across studies and limiting the ability to advance science and practice. Method: We reviewed empirical research through which we uncovered specific information about cohesion’s conceptualization, measurement, and relationships with performance, culminating in a set of current trends from which we provide suggestions and possible solutions to guide future efforts and help the field converge toward greater consistency. Results: Cohesion demonstrates more significant relationships with performance when conceptualized using social and task (but not other) dimensions and when analyses are performed at the team level. Cohesion is inherently temporal, yet researchers rarely measure cohesion at multiple points during the life of a team. Finally, cohesion matters in large, dynamic collectives, complicating measurement. However, innovative and unobtrusive methodologies are being used, which we highlight. Conclusion: Practitioners and researchers are encouraged to define cohesion with task and social subdimensions and to measure with behavioral and attitudinal operationalizations. Individual and team-oriented items are recommended, though team-level analyses are most effective. Innovative/unobtrusive methods should be further researched to enable cohesion measurement longitudinally and in large, dynamic collectives. Application: By applying our findings and conclusions, researchers and practitioners will be more likely to find consistent, reliable, and significant cohesion-to-performance relationships.

This paper reviewed recent literature on group diversity,and proposed a series of theoretical development and empirical evidence based on group faultlines theory,with particular emphasis on the interpretation of best practice and contingency factors. Finally,this study discussed some key issues for future diversity research as well as its managerial implications.

Abstract:Despite the position of farmer cooperatives in markets and their social capital based characteristics, neither the definition nor the role of social capital in farmer cooperatives has been broadly investigated. Thus, this study seeks to develop a framework for defining and clarifying various aspects of social capital and examines the effects of social capital on members' participation in collective activities and on the economic performance of farmer cooperatives. Social capital is indicated in terms of three dimensions, i.e., the external, relational, and cognitive dimensions. A statistical model is applied to a database consisting of 147 farmer cooperatives in China's Zhejiang province. The results demonstrate a positive relationship between certain dimensions of social capital and members' participation in training and general meetings. In addition, each dimension of social capital has a significant and positive impact on the economic performance of cooperatives.

Frontiers of Business Research in China

Abstract:This study develops a scale, organizational cohesion inventory (OCI), which measures cohesion at the organizational level. The OCI contains six dimensions: employee centripetalism, leader cohesiveness, task cooperation, interpersonal harmony, benefit sharing, and value identification. We conducted three studies to develop and validate the OCI in the Chinese context. In Study 1, we generated and selected scale items, and examined the construct validity of the OCI. Study 2 tested its incremental validity and nomological validity. Study 3 assessed its concurrent validity. In general, results of the three studies show that the OCI has good psychometric properties. It is therefore could be useful for more thorough and comprehensive studies on organizational cohesion.

Abstract:In the hope of complementing the structural perspective in upper echelon research and advancing a fine-grained understanding of dyadic leadership influence in management teams, the current study combines two types of intrateam structures-leadership network and friendship network-to create a multidimensional conceptualization of leadership structure in management teams. Specifically, we propose that management teams with a denser singular leadership network (i.e., a network consisting of many leadership ties that are not coupled with friendship ties) should have lower management team cohesion, which subsequently renders worse business unit performance. To contrast, management teams with a denser multiplex network (i.e., a network consisting of many leadership ties that are coupled with friendship ties) should have higher management team cohesion, which subsequently renders better business unit performance. Guided by structural contingency perspective, we further propose that management team task interdependence will strengthen team cohesion's positive impact on business unit performance. To test the hypothesized model, we collected team-level social network data and multiple-wave survey data from 697 managers nested in 148 hotels (i.e., 148 management teams) owned by a large hospitality company. We also obtained objective performance data for each hotel (i.e., occupancy percentage rate and revenue per available room per day) as the criterion measure. The data supported our hypotheses. The theoretical and practical implications of our findings are discussed.

Benefits and Pitfalls of Social Capital for Farmer Cooperatives: Evidence from China

Abstract:This paper conducts an exploratory analysis on the role of social capital in influencing both economic and social performance of farmer cooperatives based on a sample of 156 farmers from 54 vegetable cooperatives in China's Hebei and Zhejiang provinces. Social capital is distinguished into bonding and bridging dimensions, with the former referring to the internal aspect of social capital and the latter the external "Guanxi" (meaning relationship) possessed by core members. The statistical results display that specific dimensions of social capital may not deliver the benefits expected by cooperative practitioners and academics. Both positive and negative effects of social capital on performances of farmer cooperatives are observed. To be specific, bonding social capital is positively associated with common members' economic benefits. Bridging social capital generates beneficial outcomes for the financial and social performances of cooperatives, while exhibiting negative influence on common members' income increase because of member heterogeneity.

Abstract:Existing review on management research in China is still unilateral. This paper took management and organization literature as object,and used coding,frequency analysis,and network analysis to draw a whole picture of those researches during the last three decays. The results suggested that although management research in China started late,it developed dramatically. Both the quality and the quantity have increased during these periods. The whole discipline turned out to be scientifically,institutionally and multidimentionally developing.

Abstract:The author suggests that organizational commitment be composed of affective commitment and continuous commitment.Researchers should pay attention on the importance of non-job factors in explaining commitment due to the change of social environment.The author also recommends that researchers study the development of commitment from the perspective of social networks and notice the role of traditional culture.The intervening process between commitment and individual outcomes is discussed.The author posits that interaction effects exist between affective and continuous commitment.

Abstract:Along with the improvement of the network infrastructure in schools, doing teaching research collaboratively online by different school teachers has been becoming an important approach of teachers’ professional development. Although the online teaching research groups of teachers are expected to be more and more popular in the future, these kind of online groups have to face the challenge of the physical distance among teachers which may course communication problems or even disintegration of the groups. Group cohesion can lay claim to being group dynamics’ most theoretically important concept. The cohesion is considered to improve the collective effcacy of the online teaching research group. This study explored the cohesion of online teaching research groups which were composed of teachers in difference schools. Using the journals written by the teachers, the study explored the group’s cohesiveness perceived by the teachers, and the factors which destroyed the cohesion. Some characteristics, which include individual development, interpersonal dependent, task-driven, socially organized structure and moderate group size, were concluded as the distinguishing qualities of online teaching research group cohesion.
