NOTES ON FINITE SUPERSOLVABLE GROUPS

Abstract:Let's recall the definition of supersolvable groups. A group G is called supersolvable if it has a finite normal seriesG=G_0(?)G_1(?)β¦(?)G_m=1 such that in whioh each factor G_i/G_(i+1) (i=0, 1, β¦, m-1) are all cyclic. In this paper, we will disouss two properties for finite supersolvable groups.1. On Lagrange theoremZappa, G. proved the following theorem in 1940.Theorem 1. The inverse proposition of Lagrange theorem holds for a finite group G and any of its subgroups if and only if the group G is supersolvable.Mclian, D. H. has given a proof for the preceding theorem of Zappa in 1957. Again, Dorek, K. and Deskins, W. E. gave proves for Zappa's theorem in 1966 and 1968 respectively. We shall give a proof for this theorem here, whioh seems to be new.We need the following lemmas.Lemma 1. Suppose that the inverse proposition of Lagrange theorem holds for a finite group G and any of its subgroups, and let p_i be the largest prime whioh is a factor of order o (G) of group G, then the Sylow p_i-subgroup of group G is normal in G.Lemma 2. Assume that the inverse proposition of Lagrange theorem holds for a finite group G and any of its subgroups, and let p_i be the largest prime which is a factor of order o(G) of group G then, the group G has a normal subgroup with order p_t.2. On Wielandt theoremWielandt, H proved in 1954 that if a group G has a niloptent Hall β-subgroup, then all Hall β-subgroups of the group G are conjugate, and for eaoh β-subgroup of the group G there exists one Hall β-subgroup of G whioh contains the β-subgroup.We have the following result for this theorem of Wielandt, H.Theorem 2. Assume a group G has a Hall β-subgroup H, and let eaoh Sylow p-subgroup of H be cyclic, then the Hall β-subgroups of G from a single conjugacy class of subgroups of G, and for eaoh β-subgroup of G there exists one Hall β-subgroup of G which contains the β-subgroup.We first introduce some symbols as follows:1. Condition E_β~e. Let β be a set of primes. If a group G has a Hall β-subgroup H, and each Sylow p-subgroup of H is cyclic, then the group G is said to have satisfied condition E_β~c.2. β_1=β(Pβ²β€P). Let β be a set of primes, p be a given prime in β, and let pβ² be a prime in β. We writeβ_1=β(pβ²β€p)={Pβ²ββ|pβ²β€p}. We need the followingLemma. Suppose that a group G satisfied condetion E_β~c, and let P be any p-subgroup of the group G, pββ, then the normalizer N_G(P) of P in G satisfied E_β~c(pβ²β€p)γ
