Abstract:Characterized as a tonal language, Chinese is noted to be greatly different from English in acoustics and phonetics. The research results of psychoacoustics have showed that there are differences in the auditory perception between Chinese and English. Nowadays, most hearing devices are generally designed for hearing-impaired people using western languages and those imported devices are not effective for Chinese speakers. In this paper, some new findings on the auditory perception differences between Chinese and English will be shared and a new coding strategy for cochlear implants will be introduced. The subjective and objective evaluations have demonstrated that it is a valuable candidate for Chinese speakers.
