Abstract:This paper reports a case of 33-year-old man, infected by Sparganosis mansoni in the thoracic cavity, subcutaneous tissue and parotid gland, who became ill after eating frog. He was treated by praziquantel 25 mg/kg given over 3 days. The pleural effusion and endermic lump gradually vanished, and the blood eosinophilic granulocyte levels recuperated. The case was followed up until now, and a recurrence of symptoms was not found. S. mansoni can cause parasitic infections of the eye, subcutancous tissue, oral and maxillo-facial regions, viscera, central nervous system and lung in humans. However, infection of the bilateral thoracic cavity, subcutaneous tissue and parotid gland together is seldom seen. The diagnosis is generally made by pathology, and immunosorbent assay of the serum may be diagnostically helpful.
