The Application of General Self-Efficacy Scale in Guangzhou College Students

Abstract:Objective To explore the application of the General Self-Efficacy Scale in Guangdong college students.Methods A total of 660 college students from 10 universities in Guangdong were surveyed through General Self-Efficacy Scale(GSES).Results ①In all of 650 subjects,615 college students were eligible(97.6%).②Cronbach's alpha coefficient of self-efficacy was 0.85 with the split-reliability of 0.80 and test-retest reliability of 0.81,alpha coefficients of the four factors(strategy,resourcefulness,motivation and activity),extracted through the method of factor analysis with Cronbach-coefficients of 0.768,0.729,0.621,0.567 respectively,and the contributions of 42.64%,11.31%,9.21%,6.88% with the total of 70.04%.③There were significant differences between different genders in the total score of GSES and the scores of resourcefulness,motivation and activity(t=3.21,P<0.05;t=3.78,P<0.001;t=2.17,P<0.05;t=2.85,P<0.001)but no difference in the strategic factor(t=1.81,P>0.05);and there were no significant difference in whether only child or not and whether from urban or not(t=1.09,0.94;P>0.05).Conclusion General self-efficacy scale has good reliability and validity in application of Guangzhou college students,exist four factors of strategy,resourcefulness,motivation and activity;there exist close relationship between the self-efficacy and gender for Guangdong college students.
