Abstract:We present a method of constructing orthogonal polynomials generated by pairs of Hermitian operators in representations of Lie algebras. All known classical polynomials of both discrete and continuous argument are generated naturally by the simplest Lie algebras.

Abstract:We construct two families of orthogonal polynomials associated with the universal central extensions of the superelliptic Lie algebras. These polynomials satisfy certain fourth order linear differential equations, and one of the families is a particular collection of associated ultraspherical polynomials. We show that the generating functions of the polynomials satisfy fourth order linear PDEs. Since these generating function can be represented by superelliptic integrals, we have examples of linear PDEs of fourth order with explicit solutions without complete integrability.

Abstract:Orthosymplectic Lie superalgebras are fundamental symmetries in modern physics, such as massive supergravity. However, their representations are far from being thoroughly understood. In the present paper, we completely determine the structure of their various supersymmetric polynomial representations obtained by swapping bosonic multiplication operators and differential operators in the canonical supersymmetric polynomial representations. In particular, we obtain certain new infinite-dimensional irreducible representations and new composition series of indecomposable representations for these algebras.

Abstract:We prove a generalization of Harish-Chandra's character orthogonality relations for discrete series to arbitrary admissible representations for real reductive Lie groups. This result is an analogue of a conjecture by Kazhdan for p-adic reductive groups proved by Bezrukavnikov and by Schneider and Stuhler.

Abstract:It is shown by the author in [J. Lie Theory 29:4, 1045-1070, 2019] that for every connected linear complex Lie group the algebra of polynomials (regular functions) is dense in the algebra of holomorphic functions of exponential type. However, the argument is quite involved. Here we present a short proof.

Abstract:We study orthogonal polynomials (OPs) for a weight function defined over a domain of revolution, where the domain is formed from rotating a two‐dimensional region and goes beyond the quadratic domains. Explicit constructions of orthogonal bases are provided for weight functions on a number of domains. Particular attention is paid to the setting when an orthogonal basis can be constructed explicitly in terms of known polynomials of either one or two variables. Several new families of OPs are derived, including a few families that are eigenfunctions of a spectral operator and their reproducing kernels satisfy an addition formula.

Abstract:We establish new explicit connections between classical (scalar) and matrix Gegenbauer polynomials, which result in new symmetries of the latter and further give access to several properties that have been out of reach before: generating functions, distribution of zeros for individual entries of the matrices and new type of differential-difference structure. We further speculate about other potentials of the connection formulas found. Part of our proofs makes use of creative telescoping in a matrix setting$-$the strategy which is not yet developed algorithmically.

Abstract:We obtain stochastic duality functions for specific Markov processes using representation theory of Lie algebras. The duality functions come from the kernel of a unitary intertwiner between $*$-representations, which provides (generalized) orthogonality relations for the duality functions. In particular, we consider representations of the Heisenberg algebra and $\mathfrak{su}(1,1)$. Both cases lead to orthogonal (self-)duality functions in terms of hypergeometric functions for specific interacting particle processes and interacting diffusion processes.

Abstract:In this work, some theorems are established for orthogonal trigonometric polynomials (OTP) including Favard, Baxter, Geronimus, Rakhmanov, Szeg\"o and the strong Szeg\"o theorems which are important in the theory of orthogonal polynomials on the unit circle (OPUC). All these results are based on the mutual representation theorem of OPUC and OTP which deduced by a Riemann-Hilbert problem simultaneously characterizing them. In addition, Szeg\"o recursions, four-term recurrences and some new identities for OPUC and OTP are also obtained by using their Riemann-Hilbert characterizations respectively.
Characteristic polynomials for classical Lie algebras

Abstract:In this paper, we will compute the characteristic polynomials for finite dimensional representations of classical complex Lie algebras and the exceptional Lie algebra of type G2, which can be obtained through the orbits of integral weights under the action of their corresponding Weyl groups and the invariant polynomial theory of the Weyl groups. We show that the characteristic polynomials can be decomposed into products of irreducible orbital factors, each of which is invariant under the action of their corresponding Weyl groups.

Abstract:We study the orthogonal complement of the Hilbert subspace considered by by van Eijndhoven and Meyers in [J. Math. Anal. Appl. 146 (1990), no. 1, 89--98} and associated to holomorphic Hermite polynomials. A polyanalytic orthonormal basis is given and the explicit expressions of the corresponding reproducing kernel functions and Segal--Bargmann integral transforms are provided.

Abstract:For every absolutely irreducible orthogonal representation of a twisted form of SL 2 \operatorname {SL}_2 over a field of characteristic zero, we compute the “unique” symmetric bilinear form that is invariant under the group action. We also prove the analogous result for Weyl modules in prime characteristic (including characteristic 2) and an isomorphism between two symmetric bilinear forms given by binomial coefficients.

Abstract:We study algebras of differential and difference operators acting on matrix valued orthogonal polynomials (MVOPs) with respect to a weight matrix of the form , where , is a certain matrix valued polynomial and is an analytic function. We introduce differential operators , which are mutually adjoint with respect to the matrix inner product induced by . We prove that the Lie algebra generated by and is finite dimensional if and only if is a polynomial. For a polynomial , we describe the structure of this Lie algebra. As a byproduct, we give a partial answer to a problem by Ismail about finite dimensional Lie algebras related to scalar Laguerre type polynomials. The case is discussed in detail.

Abstract:Orthogonal rational functions (ORF) on the unit circle generalize orthogonal polynomials (poles at infinity) and Laurent polynomials (poles at zero and infinity). In this paper we investigate the properties of and the relation between these ORF when the poles are all outside or all inside the unit disk, or when they can be anywhere in the extended complex plane outside the unit circle. Some properties of matrices that are the product of elementary unitary transformations will be proved and some connections with related algorithms for direct and inverse eigenvalue problems will be explained.

Abstract:In [J. Phys. A: Math. Theor. 45 (2012)], while looking for spin chains that admit perfect state transfer, Vinet and Zhedanov found an apparently new sequence of orthogonal polynomials, that they called para-Krawtchouk polynomials, defined on a bilinear lattice. In this note we present necessary and sufficient conditions for the regularity of solutions of the corresponding functional equation. Moreover, the functional Rodrigues formula and a closed formula for the recurrence coefficients are presented. As a consequence, we characterize all solutions of the functional equation, including as very particular cases the Meixner, Charlier, Krawtchouk, Hahn, and para-Krawtchouk polynomials.

Abstract:We prove that the Möbius function is orthogonal to polynomials over $\mathbb{F}_q[x]$ (up to a characteristic condition). We use this orthogonality property to count prime solutions to affine-linear equations of bounded complexity in $\mathbb{F}_p[x]$, with analog to a work of Green and Tao.

Abstract:A generic orthotope is an orthogonal polytope whose tangent cones are described by read-once Boolean functions. The purpose of this note is to develop a theory ofEhrhart polynomials for integral generic orthotopes. The most remarkable part of this theory is a relation between the number of lattice points in an integral generic orthotope $P$ and the number of unit cubes in $P$ of various floral types. This formula is facilitated through the introduction of a set of "local polynomials" defined for every read-once Boolean function.

Abstract:We present explicit constructions of orthogonal polynomials inside quadratic bodies of revolution, including cones, hyperboloids, and paraboloids. We also construct orthogonal polynomials on the surface of quadratic surfaces of revolution, generalizing spherical harmonics to the surface of a cone, hyperboloid, and paraboloid. We use this construction to develop cubature and fast approximation methods.
