Family Related Factors to Snoring Children from 3 to 12 Years Old in Changsha

Abstract:Objective To investigate the snoring situation of children from 3 to 12 years old in Changsha city,and to analyze the related factors.Methods Stratified random cluster sampling method was adopted to carry out the questionnaire survey to 2 706 children aged from 3 to 12 years old in 5 administrative areas of Changsha city.Results The incidence of snoring children from 3 to 12 years old in the city of Changsha is 7.1%,while 8.6% of boys and 5.6% of girls.There was statistical difference(χ2 = 9.582,P 0.05) between genders.Statistical differences of snoring rate were present in children with different ages(χ2 = 20.487,P 0.01),9.5% in children aged from 3 to 5 years old,7.7% in children aged from 6 to 8 years old,and 3.7% in children aged from 9 to 12 years old.There were significant differences of snoring rate in children with different sleeping positions(χ2 = 11.905,P 0.05),with 5.9%,6.7% and 9.9% of the lateral position,the supine position and prone position groups,respectively.There was statistical significance in snoring rate between children who fall asleep shorter than 15 minutes after going to bed(5.7%) and those who fall asleep longer than 15 minuntes(8.7%)(χ2 = 9.582,P 0.05).There was statistical significance in snoring rate between children who frequently wake up(11.5%) at night and those seldom wake up(6.1%)(χ2 = 20.487,P 0.01).There were also statistical significance in snoring rate between children whose father snored(9.2%) and whose father did not snore(4.5%),between children whose mother snored(13.8%) and whose mother did not snore(5.9%).Conclusions The incidence of children who snore is 7.1% in Changsha city,which is higher than that in Beijing,Shanghai and other cities.The incidence of boys is higher than that of girls.Parents who snore or not was one of the factors related to their children's snoring development.
