Abstract:Membrane fouling is one of the main factors hindering the large scale application of ultrafiltration technology. The effect of secondary in-line coagulation on the performance of immersed ultrafiltration membrane for treating sedimentation tank effluent was investigated using polyaluminium chloride(PAC) as the coagulant.Compared with direct ultrafiltration of sedimentation tank effluent, secondary in-line coagulation can not improve treated water quality markedly, but it can effectively mitigate membrane fouling. The coagulant dosage in the secondary in-line coagulation process has a significant influence on mitigation effect of membrane fouling.Under the condition of the experimental raw water quality, the optimal coagulant dosage is 0.6 mg/L(calculated as Al2O3).The secondary in-line coagulation does not affect chemical cleaning, and the trans-membrane pressure(TMP) of fouled membrane can be completely restored after cleaning with sodium hypochlorite.
