Abstract:Let 𝒮 be a finite thick generalized quadrangle, and suppose that G is an automorphism group of 𝒮 . If G acts primitively on both the points and lines of 𝒮 , then it is known that G must be almost simple. In this paper, we show that if the socle of G is PSL(2,q) with q≥ 4 , then q=9 and 𝒮 is the unique generalized quadrangle of order 2.

Abstract: Let $\mathcal{S}$ be a finite thick generalized quadrangle, and suppose that $G$ is an automorphism group of $\mathcal{S}$. If $G$ acts primitively on both the points and lines of $\mathcal{S}$, then it is known that $G$ must be almost simple. In this paper, we show that if the socle of $G$ is $\mathrm{PSL}(2,q)$ with $q\geq4$, then $q=9$ and $\mathcal{S}$ is the unique generalized quadrangle of order $2$.

Abstract:The automorphism groups PSU(3,q) of 2-(v,k,1) design was discussed and an inequality about the numbers of fixed points and fixed blocks of an involution was obtained. The results show that PSU(3,q) can not block-transitively act on the projective plane.

Abstract:Suppose that $q$ is a prime power such that $q\equiv~2\pmod{3}$. By using Kantor's model of $Q^+(7,q)$, we study the orbit structure of the action of $\textup{PSU}_3(q)$ on the polar space $Q^+(7,q)$ and obtain new $(q^2+q)$- and $q^3$-ovoids with an automorphism group $\textup{PSU}_3(q)$. In this way, we determine all $\textup{PSU}_3(q)$-invariant intriguing sets of $Q^+(7,q)$. It turns out that such an intriguing set is either the unitary ovoid, one of the two new $m$-ovoids, or their complements.

Abstract:In this paper, we resolve a conjecture of Green and Liebeck (2019) [3] on codes in PGL(2,q). To be specific, we show that: if D is a dihedral subgroup of order 2(q+1) in G=PGL(2,q), and A={g∈G:gq+1=1,g2≠1}, then λG=A⋅D, where λ=q or q−1 according as q is even or odd.

Abstract:A central problem in the study of generalized quadrangles is to classify finite generalized quadrangles satisfying certain symmetry conditions. It is known that an automorphism group of a finite thick generalized quadrangle $\mathcal{S}$ acting primitively on both the points and lines of $\mathcal{S}$ must be almost simple. In this paper, we initiate the study of finite generalized quadrangles admitting a point-primitive and line-primitive automorphism group with socle being a unitary group. We develop a group-theoretic tool to prove that the socle of such a group cannot be ${\rm PSU}(3,q)$ with $q\geq 3$.

Abstract:A non-regular primitive permutation group is called extremely primitive if a point stabilizer acts primitively on each of its nontrivial orbits. Let S be a nontrivial finite regular linear space and G ≤ Aut(S). Suppose that G is extremely primitive on points and let rank(G) be the rank of G on points. We prove that rank(G) ≥ 4 with few exceptions. Moreover, we show that Soc(G) is neither a sporadic group nor an alternating group, and G = PSL(2, q) with q + 1 a Fermat prime if Soc(G) is a finite classical simple group.
