Abstract:With the development of China's economy, the aging of the population is becoming more and more prominent, and China will enter a stage of deep aging. With the development of social economy and social progress, China's urban residents have put forward higher requirements for social and economic development. Judging from the survey results in recent years, the currently designed buildings are not suitable for the elderly to live in, which is not conducive to improving the quality of life of the elderly. This paper firstly introduces the influencing factors of modern pension building space design, then states the principles of pension building space design, and finally describes the problems and solutions existing in the current design of pension buildings under the concept of ageing.

Abstract:In recent years, the number of elderly people in China has been growing, and the problem of population ageing has been aggravated. The problem of population aging has aggravated by the fact that the quality of life of the elderly has become the focus of social attention. Most of the elderly in China mainly live in old neighborhoods, and improving the living space for the elderly is the key to improve the quality of life of the elderly. This study is based on the Suojincun street in Nanjing, and combines fieldwork and questionnaire survey methods to analyze the problems in renovating old neighborhoods from three aspects: transportation, greening and activity space. The research reveals several challenges in the aging of old residential areas, including disorganized internal traffic, limited green spaces with subpar quality, inadequate attention to needs of the elderly for activity space, underutilization of certain areas, and a lack of functional facilities.Based on the design principles of ageing community renovation, corresponding community optimization strategies are proposed, in order to provide certain reference and guidance for similar designs, so as to promote the development of residential areas for the elderly and improve their sense of well-being.

Abstract:With the increasing trend of population aging, elderly care institutions have become important places for the daily lives of older adults. However, there are still many issues in the current design of living spaces in institutional elderly care models, such as unreasonable spatial layout, inadequate functionality, and inconvenient facilities. To address these issues, this paper conducts a comprehensive analysis through literature review and field research, integrating the physiological and psychological characteristics of older adults and the advantages and disadvantages of living spaces in actual elderly care institutions. Based on spatial design principles and technical approaches, this paper summarizes the key points and strategies for designing age-friendly living environments for older adults in institutional elderly care models. This provides a reference basis for the design of living spaces for older adults in elderly care institutions in China, promoting the improvement of quality of life for older adults and the development of healthy aging care.
Evaluation and Optimization of the Layout of Community Public Service Facilities for the Elderly: A Case Study of Hangzhou

Abstract:Community public service facilities have a primary supportive role in the health of the elderly. Under the background of global aging, it has become vital to evaluate the elderly-adaptability of their layouts. Based on the supply and demand interaction perspective, this study used the questionnaire-AHP-2SFCA method for this purpose. Firstly, taking the six main districts of Hangzhou as an example, we analyzed the spatial distribution characteristics of the elderly population, and a weight index table of the health importance of public service facilities was constructed using a questionnaire survey and the AHP method. Secondly, the improved 2SFCA was used to analyze the accessibility of public service facilities in Hangzhou, and combined with the weight index table, the elderly-adaptability of public service facilities in the community life circle was comprehensively evaluated. Finally, the demands of the elderly and the supply of public service facilities in the same region were superimposed to study the differential pattern of supply and demand. The results showed the following: (1) The communities with the largest elderly population are mainly concentrated in Shangcheng District, Xiacheng District, the north of Gongshu District, the west of Jianggan District, and the north of Binjiang District. (2) Green space facilities in parks are most important to the health of the elderly, with a weight of 0.46. (3) The overall evaluation results of the community life circle in the study area were good, and the proportion of areas above the medium level was more than 50%. This showed that the concepts of "neighborhood center" and "big community elderly care" in Hangzhou have achieved initial positive results. (4) Based on the interaction between supply and demand, the research area can be divided into four patterns: supply and demand balance, supply shortage, demand gap, and low supply and demand. The results of this study will help to improve the layout and aging-friendly status of community life circle facilities in Hangzhou, and provide information for other aging cities.

Abstract:At present, the aging population in cities is growing sharply, and the problem of elderly-oriented urban public spaces is gradually coming to the fore and urgently needs noticing and addressing. As an illustration, we may take Dazhou City as an example. Conclusion can be drew form the questionnaires and offline visits that the elderly generally have difficulties in traveling, shopping and medical care, affected by the lack of community infrastructure, their physical condition, living habits and knowledge structure, etc. We propose to improve the adaptability of the elderly, build a comprehensive system of elderly services, create an elderly-oriented urban space as well as an atmosphere of respect for them to level their well-being index up and settle the issue of elderly-oriented retrofitting of urban public space.

Abstract:Abstract How to achieve the local benefits of the elderly in urban aging communities has become an urgent problem for China’s active aging construction, and the construction of a friendly and healthy environment for aging community provides a new way to solve the problem. This paper conducts an empirical investigation on the Jiangsu smart elderly community, collects and analyzes the phenomenon based on the relationship between the daily activities of the elderly and the community environment, discusses the elderly’s adaptation to the community’s outdoor environment and the behavioral characteristics of the elderly. Based on the safety and friendliness of the community’s pedestrian traffic environment, the cognitive friendliness of the community’s public facility environment, and the perceived friendliness of the community’s landscape environment, this paper proposes strategies for the design of an aging community’s friendly and healthy environment,and those are expected to provide some inspiration to the environmental construction of Chinses aging communities.

Abstract:In article describes the choice of methods for caring for the elderly and the comfort of living spaces are closely linked to aging-friendly design. Aging leads to a decline in physical functions, resulting in numerous obstacles in life. Therefore, the article analyzes the activity of housing for the elderly, taking aging-friendly design as a starting point. The development status of elderly housing needs in management, safety, social interaction, respect, and other aspects are examined. Design strategies conducive to aging, in terms of lighting, ventilation, detailed environment, public spaces, and intellectual services, are proposed. This aims to enhance comfort, safety, and livability in housing for the elderly and ensure the quality of life for older people. With the rapid growth in demand for elderly care, the vacancy rate in elderly housing reaches 50%. Due to changes in social and family structure, most elderly people live alone and lack security. Elderly homes have become ideal places for them. Currently, most care facilities lack professional management, and the services provided are too uniform. This leads to a weak sense of identity, with resources remaining underutilized. For semi-disabled individuals, standardized conditions do not always meet their expectations for rehabilitation care, medical services, and spiritual comfort. Elderly people face behavioral disorders affecting sight, hearing, smell, taste, and touch. Declines in the five senses, including speech impairments, mobility difficulties, and physiological disorders, lead to psychological needs such as socialization and self-realization. Aging-friendly design is based on the physiological and psychological cognitive characteristics of elderly people. It aims to create an environment that meets their needs and ensures effective care for them. The aim of the study is to analyze the problems associated with designing buildings for the elderly and to determine strategies for creating a supportive design that considers the needs and characteristics of the target audience. The work is aimed at improving the comfort, safety, and quality of life of elderly people by providing them with an appropriate living environment.

Abstract:As the aging population in China increases, home-based elderly care is set to become the main mode of elderly care in the future. The construction of community elderly care service facilities is receiving more and more attention from society. Currently, residential area design standards in China lack clear guidance on the spatial planning of facilities, which will lead to unreasonable facility layout planning and insufficient convenience in the utilization of facilities by the elderly. Fully considering the distribution characteristics of community elderly care service facilities and the needs of the community life circle when planning residential areas can effectively solve this problem. This study takes Xi'an City as the research object, based on the theory of life circle, through questionnaire surveys and cluster analysis, analyzes the current situation of the construction of elderly care service facilities and the characteristics of the use by the elderly. Combined with the community life circle model, the study scope is divided into community life circle levels, and put forward the planning strategies of coverage rate, number, richness, and spatial layout of the facilities, respectively. These strategies are designed to enhance the quality of life for seniors, ensuring that they have access to essential support and resources within their communities. It demonstrated that middle-aged elderly prefer community canteens and activity centers, while those with limited mobility and multiple chronic diseases have a higher demand for health service centers and community canteens. The utilization weight analysis shows that vegetable markets and supermarkets are most frequently used, whereas health service centers are the least utilized. The research proposes strategic planning enhancements, including full coverage of basic facilities, targeted increases in high-demand facilities, and tailored facilities for elderly characteristics. It recommends cross-community layouts to ensure service radius coverage, development reservations for future needs, and quality improvements to address the low satisfaction rates of existing facilities. The study concludes that a targeted approach to facility planning, considering the elderly's diverse needs, can enhance the community elderly care service system's sustainability and effectiveness.

Abstract:With the progress of society and the economy, the Chinese population inevitably has an aging tendency. In this situation, the issue of aged providing becomes a focus that attracts all attention of the society, and elderly apartments have gradually become one of the most important forms of housing endowment. As a crucial part of the elderly apartment, public spaces are used for the elderlys activity and association, and it should consider the elderlys demands while designing. Depending on the differences in the elders somatic function, the elder could be classified into three types: self-care, device-helping, and nursing-cared. Furthermore, their demands for public spaces in the elderly apartment are different according to the different characteristics of the Three Types. This paper will analyze cases of elderly apartments at home and abroad and summarize their design methods of public spaces, then combine with the present situation in our country, put forward the design strategy of public spaces in elderly apartments of the Three Types, according to the characteristics of the elder, and provide a reference for the optimization of the public spaces in the elderly apartment.

Abstract:Aging has become a worldwide issue in the 21st century. China became an aging society in 1999, and home-based care is now the main mode of care for the elderly. Present research on the aging-suitability of spaces mainly focuses on the interior and exterior environmental conditions of the home, ignoring public open spaces at the regional and urban levels, with a specific lack of research on waterfront open spaces, which is an important type of public open space in Jiangnan Watertown. The study used the example of the waterfront space of the Hangzhou Gongchen Bridge section of the Grand Canal, the longest artificial canal in the world, to analyze the aging-suitability of waterfront open spaces. Firstly, in this section, the activity characteristics of the elderly were surveyed through observation and semi-structured interviews, then the subjective satisfaction of the elderly with the waterfront spaces was investigated. Through correlation and principal component analysis, five common factors affecting the satisfaction of the elderly were obtained: environment, function, transportation, social culture, and vision. Finally, some design suggestions suitable for the elderly were proposed for three aspects: environment, function, and transportation, which are the most important factors affecting the overall subjective satisfaction of the elderly with the waterfront open space. This study provided a reference for the design and planning of aging-friendly waterfront open spaces, which would improve the aging-suitability of urban open spaces, increasing social participation, and enhancing the quality of life of the elderly. It is of profound significance to build a senior-friendly city and deal with the increasingly severe aging problem.

Abstract:With the progress of society and economic development, China has reached an aging population. According tothe Chinese population census data, China has entered the second stage of an aging population society and has become one of the countries with the fastest growth rate of the elderly population in the world. It is expected that the elderly population in China will reach 250 million within the next fifteen years and exceed 450 million by 2050. Additionally, China is a country with uneven development between urban and rural areas. Many young and middle-aged people choose to work in cities, which leads to most rural residents being elderly. Thus, the phenomenon of the elderly living alone by themselves occurs. Therefore, the government and related experts are increasingly concerned about the physical and mental health of the elderly. The establishment of the elderly activity center is to meet the needs of the elderly cultural life, improve the level of elderly physical and mental health, and promote the harmonious development of the countryside. Many countries aware of this problem would emphasize park construction and nursing home design for the needs of the elderly. However, little research are performed on the activity center and public spaces for the elderly in underdeveloped rural areas. Design countermeasures of the public space should consider the physical, psychological, and behavioral needs of the elderly. This study summarizes the influencing factors, design principles, and design methods of public spaces to effectively meet the needs of the elderly for public activities. By creating and improving public social spaces suitable for the elderly in rural areas, the elderly can lead a comfortable life and solve loneliness issues.

Abstract:In our country, the population ageing pressure is increasing day by day. The infrastructure of the old residential areas is mostly old and the management is backward. The problems of the elderly involved in the process of their transformation need to be solved. In view of the existing problems in the old residential quarters, such as the building conditions, facilities and equipment, community service, residents maintenance, community environment, transformation predicament, etc., combined with national policies, guidance and industry norms. Based on the physical, psychological and social needs of the elderly, the corresponding design strategies are put forward, and summed up the analysis of the old residential areas suitable for aging transformation of the implementation path. The aim of this paper is to provide help for the upgrading of the old residential area.

Abstract:The aging of population in China has been further deepened, and the living environment of the elderly has been widely concerned. As an important place for residents’ activities, the attached green space of residential area plays an important role in optimizing urban ecological environment, shaping urban landscape, providing recreation services and preventing and avoiding disasters. At present, the landscape space design of the attached green space in the residential area specially designed for the elderly is not in harmony with its demand intensity. Scientific planning of the attached green space in the residential area can enrich the daily recreational activities needed by the elderly, so as to better improve the quality of life of the elderly and promote their health. From the behavior characteristics of the elderly, the activities of the affiliated green space of residential demand, put forward under the background of an aging society residential affiliated green space reasonable planning direction, for the effective supply of the elderly daily behavior space, sufficient to guide the healthy life of the elderly to improve life quality and health level put forward the corresponding design strategy, try for the urban residential affiliated green space elements, structure, system function coordination optimization to provide theoretical support.

Abstract:Under the severe background of the international ecological and energy situation, the effective practice of sustainable green and ecological development concepts is important for maintaining the earth environment on which mankind depends and promoting the peaceful and orderly development of human society. As a large energy consumer and carbon emitter, the Chinese government is committed to vigorously promoting the people's livelihood project for the transformation of old communities, and innovating and transforming the places in the city's old houses that "have poor living experience for the elderly". This kind of project applies the concepts of environmental protection, green and energy saving to the design of old house renovation. The rational regeneration and transformation of old houses can reduce the waste of resources and energy on the one hand, and improve the living environment of the elderly on the other hand, so as to obtain the greatest economic and social benefits and realize the needs of sustainable urban development.
