Abstract:Objective:To explore the characteristics of parents' rearing behaviors in children with Tourette' s syndrome(TS) and comorbid other mental disorders. Methods: A controlled study was carried out among 87 children with Tourette' s syndrome and comorbid other mental disorder(including 24 cases with ADHD,33 with OCD,21 with depression,9 with separation and conversion disorder),87 children with Tourette syndrome without other mental disorder, and 87 children without any mental disorder as the healthy controls. All the subjects matched by gender and age.The diagnoses were made according to the criteria of Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders,Fourth Edition(DSM-Ⅳ).The Egna Minnen av Barndoms Uppfostran(EMBU) was used to assess parental rearing styles, and the general information data were collected with a self-compiled questionnaire. The data between the three groups were compared by One-way ANOVA and multiple linear regression analysis. Results:There were significant differences in the three EMBU factor scores of fathers among the three groups, with higher scores of high-punishment,refuse dinying and over protection in TS comorbidity group and TS without comorbidity group than the healthy controls(P<0.01),and higher score of father' s high-punishment in TS comorbidity gourp than TS without comorbidity group(P<0.01).The scores the factors of high-punishment,refuse denying and over protection of the mothers were higher in TS comorbidity group than TS without comorbidity group and the healthy controls(P<0.01).The regression analysis revealed that 4 factors of high-punishment,over interference, refuse denying, over protection were positively correlated to TS with comorbid other mental disorders(standardized β=1.8-5.3,Ps≤0.01).Conclusion: It is suggested that the parents' rearing behaviors of high-punishment,refuse denying and over interference may be related to Tourette' s syndrome with comorbid other mental disorders.
