Value of Proton Magnetic Resonance Spectroscopy on the Diagnosis of Mitochondrial Encephalomyopathy

Abstract:Objective To investigate the characteristics of spectra of proton magnetic resonance spectroscopy(1H-MRS) and its value in patients with mitochondrial encephalomyopathy.Methods Two clinically diagnosed patients with ME underwent conventionality MRI and 1H-MRS examination,and the characteristics of spectra were analyzed.Results Obvious lactate peaks were detected in the two patients with 1H-MRS,and small lactate peak appeared on normal area with conventional MRI in one case.Conclusion 1H-MRS may reflect the disorder of metabolism and be helpful for diagnosis.
