Abstract:Objective To estimate the contribution of known identified risk factors to breast cancer incidence and mortality in China,and provide evidence to support the prevention and control of breast cancer for Chinese females.Methods We calculated the proportion of breast cancer attributable to specific risk factors.Data on exposure prevalence were obtained from Meta-analyses and large-scale national surveys of representative samples of the Chinese population.Data on relative risks were obtained from Meta-analyses and large-scale prospective studies.Cancer mortality and incidence were taken from the Third National Death Survey and from cancer registries in China.Results The first 5 risk factors of breast cancer in China were benign breast disease (RR =2.62),family history of breast cancer (RR =2.39),smoking (RR =1.86),overweight (RR =1.60) and age at menarche (RR =1.54).The proportion of breast cancer deaths attributable to reproductive factors,lifestyle factors,benign breast disease,the use of external hormone and family history of breast cancer was 27.84％,23.55％,15.09％,3.60％ and 2.49％,respectively.The total poPulation attributable fraction (PAF) was 55.95％ for risk factors in our study.Overall,we estimated that 79 862 breast cancer cases and 22 456 deaths were attributed to the five risk factors in China in 2005.Conclusions The prevention and control of unhealthy lifestyle factors may significantly reduce the number and death of breast cancer in China.

Abstract:Objective To investigate breast cancer risk factors in Chinese women residing in urban and rural areas of eastern China using a large-scale cross-sectional survey.Methods In this multistage, stratified cluster sampling epidemiological survey, information on demographic characteristics, diet and lifestyle variables were gathered using a carefully designed questionnaire. Multivariate logistic regression analysis and subgroup analyses of the data were performed, including separate analyses of data from women residing in urban and rural areas.Results A total of 122058 women were included in the survey. Age, body mass index, number of miscarriages, family history of breast cancer and menopausal status were found to be risk factors for breast cancer, while the consumption of soya bean products was a protective factor. Among women residing in urban areas, high or moderate intake of soya bean products and red meat were protective factors. Among women residing in rural areas, obesity and a high intake of milk were identified as risk factors for breast cancer, while a moderate intake of soya bean products was a protective factor.Conclusions This type of data is crucial for understanding the risk factors for breast cancer and could facilitate the development and targeting of effective intervention strategies, with the ultimate aim of breast cancer prevention.
[A Case-Control Study on Risk Factors of Female Breast Cancer in Zhejiang Province].

Abstract:OBJECTIVE:To investigate the risk factors on female breast cancer in Zhejiang province.METHODS:A case-control study was conducted in 200 cases of female breast cancer with histopathological diagnosis and 200 matched controls from Zhejiang province.RESULTS:Univariate conditional logistic regression showed that family history of malignant tumor and breast cancer, housing decoration in last 10 years, mammary hyperplasia, adverse life events, bra with steel rings, sleeping with bra, high fat and pickle intake, poor sleep were positively related to breast cancer; whereas environmental friendly decoration materials, long decoration time interval, workplace condition, more lactation and parity, high fruits intake, sufficient sleep were negatively related to breast cancer. Multivariate conditional logistic regression analysis showed that the risk factors included family history of other tumors [odds ratio (OR)= 1.571,95% confidence interval(CI):1.029-2.396],mammary hyperplasia (OR=3.066,95%CI:1.834-5.126), job-related life events (OR=4.575,95%CI:1.690-12.390),the death of a loved one (OR=2.555,95%CI:1.475-4.424), wearing bra at night (OR=1.902,95%CI:1.177-3.072),high fat intake (OR=2.709,95%CI:1.546-4.749) and salted food (OR=2.460,95%CI:1.300-4.653). Factors as environmental friendly decoration materials (OR=0.517,95%CI:0.339-0.789),workplaces condition (OR=0.430,95%CI:0.243-0.762),more lactation (OR=0.109,95%CI:0.013-0.896),enough sleep (OR=0.424,95%CI:0.205-0.880) were protective factors.CONCLUSION:Hereditary,psychological factors,lifestyle,environment and diet related factors are significantly associated with risk of breast cancer.

Abstract:Objective To investigate cognition status of breast cancer and to provide evidence for health education on cancer prevention and treatment in Beijing community.Methods A population based cross-sectional study was conducted to investigate 2 952 women aged over 40 in a community of Beijing.Demography information,knowledge of risk factors of tumor and breast cancer and the source of tumor knowledge were collected with questionnaire in April 2008.Results There were 28.2% of the women having breast examination in professional clinic once a year and 23.1% of the women taking breast self-examination every month.There were 26.4% of the women knowing that overweight can lead to breast cancer more easily.Nearly half of the women knew genetic factor was one of risk factors of breast cancer.The main way of know-legdge for breast cancer was television(61.3%).The knowledge of breast cancer was related to age(χ2=12.386,P=0.002) and education(χ2=63.523,P=0.000).Conclusion The knowledge of breast cancer and its risk factor is very low among the women in community of Beijing.It is necessary to improve the understanding of breast cancer among the women through health education.

Abstract:Objective To analyze the survival rate of female breast cancer from the population-based cancer registry data from 2001 to 2007 in Qidong in order to provide a basis for assessing the prognosis and treatment of this disease.Methods Eight hundred and fifty-eight registered cases were followed up until December 31,2009.Cumulative observed survival rate(OS)and relative survival rate(RS)were calculated using SURV3.01 software developed by the Finnish Cancer Registry.Results The OS of female breast cancer patients at 1,3 and 5 years was 84.36%,73.47% and 66.80%,respectively;and the RS was 85.40%,76.26% and 71.10%,respectively.The 5-year RS in patients aged 14-34 years,35-44 years,45-54 years,55-64 years,65-74 years and ≥ 75 years was 34.98%,80.86%,72.64%,60.68%,82.45%,67.91% and 71.10%,respectively.There was a statistical difference in OS among the six age groups(χ2=53.93,P=0.00).The 5-year RS of female breast cancer patients in 2001-2007 was 71.10%,which was remarkably improved compared with that in 1972-1976(54.38%)and 1987-1991(61.28%)in Qidong.Conclusions The overall survival rate of female breast cancer of the registered cases in 2001-2007 in Qidong has been improved greatly.

Abstract:Aims: To analyze the incidence and mortality trends of breast cancer among women in China from 1990 to 2019 and explore the effects of age, period, and cohort on the incidence and mortality of breast cancer. Methods: We performed a Joinpoint regression model to describe trends in breast cancer incidence and mortality. We used an age–period–cohort analysis model to estimate the impact of age, period, and cohort on breast cancer incidence and mortality. We collected breast cancer incidence and mortality among women aged 20–89 in China (1990–2019) from the Global Health Data Exchange (GHDx) database. Results: The crude incidence and mortality of breast cancer from 1990 to 2019 in Chinese women showed an increasing trend, with an average annual increase percentage (AAPC) of 4.69% and 2.18%, respectively. The analysis on the age–period–cohort model revealed that the risk of incidence increased first and then decreased with age and peaked at 55–59 years old, whereas the risk of mortality increased by approximately 60.34 times from 20 to 89 years old. The risk of incidence and mortality increased by 2.64 and 1.49 times with the passage of time, respectively. The later the birth cohort is, the lower the risk of incidence and mortality will be. Conclusion: From 1990 to 2019, the incidence and mortality of breast cancer among Chinese women showed an increasing trend, and the prevention and control situation of breast cancer was still grim. Therefore, visual examination and palpation examination should be actively carried out in adult women with breast cancer, and the conventional population after 40 years of age, the high-risk population carrying hereditary breast cancer gene and the elderly population should be assisted with imaging examination along with palpation examination. When treating patients suffering from breast cancer, in order to reduce the death rate, a personalized treatment plan should be developed based on the characteristics of different patients.

Abstract:Objective: To analyze the current status of breast cancer screening among females in Urban Beijing Cancer Screening Program, 2014-2019. Methods: Based on an on-going cancer screening program launched by the National Urban Cancer Screening Program, women residences aged 40 to 69 were recruited from 80 streets in six districts of Beijing (Dongcheng, Xicheng, Chaoyang, Haidian, Fengtai and Shijingshan District) using cluster sampling method. General demographic information and potential risk factors, results of clinical examination and follow-up outcomes of the target population (diagnosed breast cancer or not) were collected using epidemiological questionnaire, risk evaluation, clinical examination using ultrasound and (or) joint screening with mammography and follow-up, respectively. Proportion of high-risk cases evaluated by the questionnaire, recall rate, proportion of cases with BI-RADS grade 3 and BI-RADS grade 4/5, proportion of the cases with stage 0 or I, incidence rate and cumulative incidence rate were calculated. Cox proportional hazard regression model was used to estimate the hazard ratio (HR) and 95% confidence interval (95%CI) among females who experienced different screening scenario. Results: A total of 53 916 women with the age of (57.2±7.3) completed high-risk assessment were included into analysis. The proportion of overweigh and obesity were 40.90% (22 053 cases) and 15.34% (8 270 cases), respectively. A total of 17 535 cases (32.52%) were evaluated as positive case detected by the questionnaire. The clinical recall rate was 47.64% (8 353 cases) among the high-risk females. The positive rate detected by ultrasound or mammography alone was 1.84% and 4.00%, while the suspicious positive detection rates were 14.50% and 17.83%, respectively. The positive rate and suspicious positive rate detected by joint screening using ultrasound and mammography were 5.44% and 27.74% respectively. In total, 252 cases were diagnosed with breast cancer after an average of 2.68 years follow-up. The incidence rate and cumulative incidence rate of breast cancer were 174.34/100 000 person years and 470/100 000, respectively. The early detection rate was 68.6% among the residences who received clinical examination. Compared with the negative residence evaluated by the questionnaire, the positive cases has a 55% higher risk of diagnosed with breast cancer (HR=1.55, 95%CI:1.20-2.00); Cases that recognized by baseline ultrasound and mammography joint screening as BI-RADS 4/5 and BI-RADS 3 have higher risk of diagnosed with breast cancer than that of with the results of BI-RADS 1-2, with the HR of 12.60 (95%CI:6.49-24.47) and 1.89 (0.93-3.83), respectively. Conclusion: Females with high risk of breast cancer in Beijing have a better recall rate of receiving the clinical screening examination. Joint using ultrasonography and mammography in breast cancer screening can improve the positive detection rate among high risk females.

Abstract:Objective To explore the knowledge,attitude and practice of breast cancer screening among women in Hangzhou and its influencing factors.Methods Using stratified random sampling method to extract 326 women in July 2015 from Xihu,Xiaoshan and Yuhang district in Hangzhou,data was analyzed by statistical description,one-way ANOVA and multiple linear regression method.Results Women's average knowledge score was (5.85±2.30) while attitude score was (6.30±1.37),average month income,occupation and educational level remained the significant variables of knowledge score while attitude score was associated with knowledge score and occupation.For BSE,the screening rate of subjects who got higher knowledge score was 3.237 times as people who got lower (P＜0.01).For clinical examination,the screening rate of subjects who got higher knowledge score and attitude score were 2.623 and 2.146 times as people who got lower (P＜0.05)Conclusions Women's behavior of breast cancer screening is inadequate.Health education related to breast cancer should be carried out to intervene women's breast cancer screening behavior to improve women's health status.

Abstract:Objective:To understand the mortality trend of female breast cancer in last ten years,explore the high risk population,provide a scentific basis for formulating strategies for reducing mortality of breast cancer.Methods:The female mortality data based on Chinese Health Statistics Annual(2002~2005) and National Health Statistical Yearbooks(1996~2001) were analysed by description statistical analysis.Results:①The mortality of breast cancer ranged from 8/100 000 to 10/100 000 in urban areas,4/100 000 to 6/100 000 in rural areas from 1996 to 2005;②The women more than 84 in urban areas and more than 74 in rural areas had the highest mortality rates of breast cancer;③In 2005,of all female cancer deaths,the proportion of breast cancer deaths aged 25~59 years old was higher than that in the other age groups;④In 2001,the mortalities of female breast cancer in age group 30～34 years from high to low were listed as follows:country with low economy level,country with middle economy level,country with high economy level,small and medium-sized cities,large cities;in 2005,the mortalities of female breast cancer in age group 25～29 years from high to low were listed as follows: small and medium-sized cities,country,large cities.Conclusion:The mortality of female breast cancer remains stable for the last 10 years in China,but regional gap exists;more attention should be paid to young women.

Abstract:Introduction: This study reported the trends in female breast cancer incidence and mortality rates in China, and analyzed the corresponding age-period-cohort effects.Methods: Data from 22 population-based cancer registries in China between 2003 and 2017 were analyzed. Age-standardized incidence rates (ASIR) and mortality rates (ASMR) were calculated using Segi's world standard population. Joinpoint regression was employed to evaluate trends, and age-period-cohort effects were examined using the intrinsic estimator method.Results: The ASIR for female breast cancer exhibited a more rapid increase in rural areas compared to urban areas across all age groups. The most substantial increase was observed in the 20-34 age group in rural areas [annual percent change (APC)=9.0%, 95% confidence interval (CI): 7.0%-11.0%, P<0.001]. The ASMR for females under 50 years old remained stable from 2003 to 2017 in both urban and rural areas. However, the ASMR for females over 50 in rural areas and those over 65 in urban areas demonstrated a significant increase, with the most pronounced increase observed among females over 65 in rural areas (APC=4.9%, 95% CI: 2.8%-7.0%, P<0.001). Age-period-cohort analysis revealed increasing period effects and decreasing cohort effects for female breast cancer incidence and mortality rates in both urban and rural settings. Notably, the cohort effect for incidence displayed a slight upward trend for females born between 1983 and 1992 in rural areas.Conclusions: Our study revealed a rapid increase in breast cancer incidence among younger generations and an accelerated mortality rate in older populations residing in rural areas. To effectively address the growing burden of female breast cancer in China, it is essential to develop and implement targeted intervention strategies.

Abstract:Background: There are huge differences in female breast cancer mortality between urban and rural China. In order to better prevent breast cancer equally in urban and rural areas, it is critical to trace the root causes of past inequities and predict how future differences will change. Moreover, carcinogenic factors from micro-individual to macro-environment also need to be analyzed in detail. However, there is no systematic research covering these two aspects in the current literature. Methods: Breast cancer mortality data in urban and rural China from 1994 to 2019 are collected, which from China Health Statistical Yearbook. The Age-Period-Cohort model is used to examine the effects of different age groups, periods, and birth cohorts on breast cancer mortality. Nordpred project is used to predict breast cancer mortality from 2020 to 2039. Results: The age effect gradually increases and changes from negative to positive at the age of 40–44. The period effect fluctuates very little and shows the largest difference between urban and rural areas in 2019. The birth cohort effect gradually decreases with urban-rural effects alternating between strong and weak. In the predicted results, the urban-rural mortality gap becomes first narrow and then wide and shows a trend of younger death. Conclusions: From the perspective of a temporal system, the changing trend of breast cancer mortality is highly consistent with the history of social and economic structural changes in China. From the perspective of the theory of social determinants of health, individuals, families, institutions and governments need to participate in the prevention of breast cancer.

Abstract:As a metropolis with rapid social and economic development over the past three decades, Shanghai has a breast cancer incidence that surpasses all other cancer registries in China. In order to estimate the regular changing patterns of female breast cancer in urban Shanghai, population-based incidence data from 1975 to 2004 were studied. In addition, a one-hospital-based in-patient database of 7,443 female breast cancer patients treated surgically between January-1990 and July-2007 were reviewed, retrospectively. We observed that breast cancer incidence increased dramatically over the past 30 years and documented a peak incidence represented by the middle-age group (45-59 years), which emerged in the last 20 years. The incidence peak moved from the 40-44 year group in the previous two decades to the 50-54 year group in the most recent decade. Median age at diagnosis was earlier in Shanghai than in the western countries, although it increased from 47.5-year in 1990 to 50-year in 2007. Considerably higher exposure to reproductive risk factors and relatively fewer hormone-dependent cases were observed. The proportion of asymptomatic cases detected by screening gradually increased, as well as that of early-stage cases (from 78.6% in 1990 to 93.3% in 2007) and carcinoma in situ (14.7% in 2007). Analysis of surgical treatment patterns suggested a trend of less-invasive options. Both age of peak incidence and median age at diagnosis increase with time, which suggests that increased incidence trending along with increasing age, will be observed in the future. Consequently, specific screening protocol should be refined to consider birth cohorts.
Survival analysis of breast cancer inpatients with Qidong and Haimen household registration in Nantong Tumor Hospital during 2002-2014

Abstract:Objective To analyze the survival rate of breast cancer inpatients with Qidong and Haimen household registration in Nantong Tumor Hospital from January 2002 to December 2014 and provide references for prevention and treatment of breast cancer. Methods With active and passive follow-up methods, the survivals of 335 inpatients with Qidong and Haimen household registration in Nantong Area recorded in cancer databank were investigated until March 31, 2016. Survival probability was estimated using the life-table method and Wilcoxon test was used for survival comparison. Results In all 335 patients, the outcomes of 308 patients were identified, with a follow-up rate of 91. 9％ and a missing rate of 8. 1％ (27 cases). There were 4 males and 304 females, so only female patients were included in this analysis. The median age of the first hospitalization was 54. 0 ( 18. 0-81. 9 ) years old. The most commonly affected age was 40-59 years, accounting for 64. 8％. The 1-, 3-, 5-, and 10-year observed survival of female breast cancer patients was 86. 8％, 69. 5％, 61. 0％ and 46. 6％, respectively. The 5-year observed survival was 65. 7％ in patients with Qidong household registration and 56. 9％ in Haimen household registration, indicating no significant difference (Z=1. 423,P>0. 050). Their cumulative survival rates presented no significant difference (Gehan value 1. 695,P=0. 193). Conclusion The breast cancer inpatients with Qidong and Haimen household registration have similar survival, which can provide references for the evaluation of comprehensive treatment outcome in female breast cancer patients.

Abstract:Background: Breast cancer is ranked among the most prevalent malignancies in the Chinese female population. However, comprehensive reports detailing the latest epidemiological data and attributable disease burden have not been extensively documented. Methods: In 2018, high-quality cancer surveillance data were recorded in 700 population-based cancer registries in China. We extracted data on female breast cancers (International Classification of Diseases, Tenth Revision [ICD-10]: C50) and estimated the incidence and mortality in 2022 according to the baseline data and corresponding trends from 2010 to 2018. Pathological types were classified according to the ICD for Oncology, 3rd Edition codes. Disability-adjusted life years (DALYs) were calculated as the sum of the years of life lost (YLLs) and years lived with disability (YLDs). Results: In 2022, approximately 357,200 new female breast cancer cases and 75,000 deaths occurred in China, accounting for 15.59% and 7.94% of total new cancer cases and deaths, respectively. The age-standardized incidence rate (ASIR) was 33.04 per 100,000. When analyzed by pathological type, the ASIRs for papillary neoplasms, invasive breast carcinoma, rare and salivary gland-type tumors, and other types were 1.13, 29.79, 0.24, and 1.88 per 100,000, respectively. The age-standardized mortality rate (ASMR) was 6.10 per 100,000. A total of 2,628,000 DALYs were found to be attributable to female breast cancer in China, comprising 2,278,300 YLLs and 349,700 YLDs. The ASIR, ASMR, and age-standardized rate (ASR) for DALYs in urban areas were consistently higher than those in rural areas. We observed a four-fold increase in the ASIR and ASR for DALYs and an eight-fold increase in the ASMR among females over 55 years compared with those aged under 55 years. Conclusion: These data provide invaluable insights into the latest epidemiology of female breast cancer in China and highlight the urgency for disease prevention and control strategy formulation.
Survival analysis of gynecological cancers in Southeast China, 2011-2020: A population-based study

Abstract:Purpose: To analyze the survival outcomes of female patients with cervical, uterine, and ovarian cancers in Southeast China (Fujian Province) from 2011 to 2020 and to provide a reference basis for prognostic evaluation and prevention of gynecological malignancies. Methods: The data of 5823 patients with cervical, uterine, and ovarian cancers registered in the Fujian Provincial Cancer Prevention and Control System from 2011 to 2020 were enrolled for survival analysis and further stratified by age at diagnosis and township. Survival time was calculated up to March 30, 2022, and relative survival (RS) and age-standardized RS were calculated according to the International Cancer Survival Standards (ICSS). Results: During 2011-2015, the 5-year RS for cervical, uterine, and ovarian cancers were 64.3 %, 64.2 %, and 44.7 %, respectively, while the age-standardized 5-year RS were 56.8 %, 47.9 %, and 27.9 %, respectively. During 2016-2020, the 5-year RS for cervical, uterine, and ovarian cancers were 72.3 %, 78.9 %, and 50.8 %, respectively, while the age-standardized 5-year RS were 64.5 %, 54.6 %, and 34.2 %, respectively. The 5-year RS for cervical and ovarian cancer all declined with age, while the 5-year RS for uterine cancer was highest at 45-54 years and lowest at 75 years. In addition, survival rates were broadly higher in urban than rural areas. Conclusion: Survival rates for cervical, uterine, and ovarian cancers have generally increased in the population covered by the Fujian Cancer Registry. However, survival rates remain lower than in developed countries. Emphasis should be placed on gynecological cancer screening and the introduction of effective treatments to improve survival rates for gynecological cancers.

Abstract:Abstract Introduction: As a metropolis with rapid social and economic development over the past three decades, Shanghai has a breast cancer incidence that surpasses all other cancer registries in China.Methods: In order to estimate the regular changing patterns of female breast cancer in urban Shanghai, population-based incidence data from 1975 to 2004 were studied. In addition, a one-hospital-based in-patient database of 9709 female breast cancer patients treated surgically between Jan-1990 and Dec-2008 were reviewed, retrospectively.Results: We observed that breast cancer incidence increased dramatically over the past 30 years and documented a peak incidence represented by the middle-age group (45-59 yrs), which emerged in the last 20 years. The incidence peak moved from the 40-44 year group in the previous two decades to the 50-54 year group in the most recent decade. Median age at diagnosis was earlier in Shanghai than in the western countries, although it increased from 47.5-yr in 1990 to 51-yr in 2008. Considerably higher exposure to reproductive risk factors and relatively fewer hormone-dependent cases were observed- only 49.2% of breast cancers were estrogen receptor(ER) positive, 46.1% were progesterone receptor positive. The proportion of asymptomatic cases detected by screening gradually increased, as well as that of early-stage cases (from 78.6% in 1990 to 87.9% in 2008 and carcinoma in situ (14.9% in 2008). Analysis of surgical treatment patterns suggested a trend of less-invasive options.Conclusions: Rapid socioeconomic growth and birth-control policies have revealed some unique risk factors, which pushed the pattern of breast cancer in Shanghai towards that of the western countries. Age of peak incidence as well as median age at diagnosis increase with time, which suggests that increased incidence trending along with increasing age will be observed in the future. The middle-age group born after 1950s would be involved in current birth-control policies and they are also the cohorts related to the incidence boom. Thus specific screening protocols should be refined for the Chinese population, considering not only increasing age but also birth cohorts. Abstract:OBJECTIVE Using comprehensive available data on women breast cancer in China, to describe the mortality trends from late 1970s, estimate and project the profile in 2000 and 2005, and to aim to provide a reference for clinic, basic research and prevention and control strategy making for breast cancer in China. METHODS Using Joinpoint model, the mortality trends were analyzed on the basis of routine surveillance data. Combining with the data from the second national mortality survey and several cancer registries, using the log-linear model (based on Poisson distribution), the breast cancer profile in 2000 and 2005 were estimated and projected. RESULTS Although there was a slight decline in mortality between early 1970s and 1990s, the age-specific mortality rates among young and middle age women increased dramatically which followed a continuing increase trend on both rates and absolute numbers, in both urban and rural areas in recent 15 years. Compared with 2000, there are 470 thousands more new breast cancer cases and 130 thousands more deaths from breast cancer in 2005. CONCLUSION Due to the double effects of both increasing risk factors and population growth and ageing, breast cancer will be one of the most extensively increasing cancers in Chinese women. The prevention and control of breast cancer will be of great emphasis for future cancer control strategy in China.

Abstract:Objective To investigate the status of diagnosis and treatment of primary breast cancer in Beijing, 2008. Methods All the patients who were diagnosed as primary breast cancer in Beijing in 2008 were enrolled in this study. Information of these patients, including the features of tumors, clinical diagnosis and treatment was collected, and filled in the well-designed questionnaire forms by trained surveyors. The missing data were partly complemented through telephone interviews. Results A total of 3473 Beijing citizens were diagnosed as primary breast cancer (25 patients with synchronal bilateral breast cancer) in Beijing, 2008. Of them 82.09% were symptomatic. 19.02% and 34.11% were diagnosed using fine needle aspiration biopsy (FNAB) and core needle biopsy (CNB), respectively. 15.92% received sentinel lymph node biopsy (SLNB) and 24.27% received breast conserving surgery (BCS). Among 476 cases with Her-2 positive, only 96 received anti-Her-2 therapy. We found that the standardization level varied in hospitals of different grades, with higher level in Grade-III hospitals. Of note, some breast cancer patients received non-standard primary tumor therapy: 65.63% of the patients with ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS) received axillary lymph node dissection and 36.88% received chemotherapy; 25.89% of the patients underwent breast conserving surgery without margin status; 12.10% of the patients received chemotherapy less than 4 cycles. Conclusion Although most breast cancer patients received basic medical care, the mode of diagnosis and treatment should be improved and should be standardized in the future in Beijing.

Abstract:Backgroud The aim of the study was to evaluate whether Beijing inhabitants with oral and oropharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma(OSCC) differ from previous reports with regard to clinicopathological characteristics and prognosis, and study the influence of prognostic factors. Methods Consecutive cases of primary oral and oropharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma in Beijing patients admitted between 2004 and 2013 were analyzed retrospectively. Clinical data included age, sex, location, site, TNM stage, history of drinking and smoking, differentiation and follow up information. Results A total of 603 cases were included in this study. The male: female ratio was 1.1:1. The frequency of sites decreased in the order tongue, gingiva, buccal mucosa, oral floor, oropharynx, lip and palate. Differences in location, age and stage between males and females were statistically significant (P < 0.05). Whereas 65.3% of male patients smoked or drank, only 6.3% of female patients did so. The overall 5-year survival rate was 64%. Female patients have a worse prognosis than male. For patients who received surgery, tumor size, lymph node involvement were independent prognostic factors. Smoking and drinking were not prognostic factors. Conclusion Our study indicates that the clinical characteristics OSCC patients in Beijing is similar to some developed countries, both regarding male/female ratio, diagnostic age, prognosis, which is different from previous reports in other districts of China. Lymph node involvement was the most important prognostic factor, followed by tumor size, pathological grade.
