A Review on Studies on Chinese Urban Community Construction (2000-2010)——Taking Papers in CSSCI Journals as the Main Object

Abstract:After 2000,with the community construction initiated by the central government through all the country, academic studies on this issue have increased dramatically. The objective of this paper is to examine researches in mainland China on community construction from 2000 to 2010. Literature analysis and comparative analysis are conducted. Based on the systematical analysis of the background of the researches' rising, main contents, academic developments and methodology, it reveals that the researches on community construction were mainly driven by governmental transformative action, and gradually motivated the practice by academic self-improvement; current researches mainly introduced methods of historical analysis and case study, used the perspective of "state-society" and applied the logic of the interaction between "institutional system and the community organization". The results also suggest that, to push forward the study, it needs to be promoted to form a general scientific theory for the method; introduce the prospective of "interaction and constitution" between the state and society; emphasize on the logic of "system-organization-actor" to observe citizens' real value and role in community construction; and then, focus on the changes between "state power" and "civil rights" studying on the "dual power-ecology". If the suggestion were adopted, theoretic breakthrough and stakeholders in the community construction would be benefited.
