Abstract:A grid computing in the field of optics is presented in this paper. Firstly, the basic principles and research background of grid computing are outlined in this paper, along with the overview of its applications and the development status quo. The paper also discusses several typical tasks scheduling algorithms. Secondly, it focuses on describing a task scheduling of grid computing applied in optical computation. The paper gives details about the task scheduling system, including the task partition, granularity selection and tasks allocation, especially the structure of the system. In addition, some details of communication on grid computing are also illustrated. In this system, the "makespan" and "load balancing" are comprehensively considered. Finally, we build a grid model to test the task scheduling strategy, and the results are analyzed in detail. Compared to one isolated computer, a grid comprised of one server and four processors can shorten the "makespan" to 1/4. At the same time, the experimental results of the simulation also illustrate that the proposed scheduling system is able to balance loads of all processors. In short, the system performs scheduling well in the grid environment.

Abstract:To gain a shortcut of complex optical computation,a grid computing system is established in this paper.The task scheduling,task partitioning,granularity controlling and takes allocating of the system are illustrated.Besides,a grid computing model is built to test the system,and the results are analyzed in detail.In this model,the makespan and load balancing of the system are comprehensively considered.The experimental results show that the proposed system is able to perform well in reducing makespan and balancing load,attain the purpose of expectation.

Abstract:Grid computing technology is a focused field in high performance computing. This paper describes an engineering computation oriented visual grid framework VGrid, which is capable to bridge the gap between currently deployed grid services and the computational applications. Based on the Globus toolkit, and coupled with a client component, a services pool and a server component, VGrid visually performs resource discovery, task schedule, and result processing. VGrid improves the efficiency of utilization of resources by introducing a logical resource concept. VGrid applications of numerical simulations in engineering sciences are demonstrated.

Abstract:In this paper, we present our work on the integration of existing engineering applications using Grid Services. We address a visual grid framework that provides an integrated development environment for engineering computation applications. Furthermore, we demonstrate bow such services can interact with each other. These interactions enable a level of integration that assists the scientific application architect in leveraging applications running in heterogeneous runtime environments. Our framework is implemented by using the existing infrastructures and middleware, the Globus Toolkit. We test our framework for computation solid mechanics applications that require large data transferring, interactive steering, using of multiple platforms, visualization, and access via a portal with graphic interface.

Abstract:Grid computing is becoming a new computing infrastructure for large-scale scientific computation and cooperative work. The Globus toolkit is the most popular grid environment and de facto grid standard, and it has adopted OGSA architecture to provide applications with grid service level. This study focuses on the requirement for scientists in engineering computation field and narrows the gap between grid service and the engineering community. The engineering computation architecture supplies the users with a visual application development and deployment environment for engineering computation. The whole is characterized by grid service. At the same time, QoS driven user-centric scheduling, community-based efficient authorization and flexible task management are designed and implemented.

Simulation models of sharing equipments are established in grid. Manipulating and optimally scheduling remote equipments are realized by operating the simulation models in simulation-grid system. Abstract:This paper proposes a computational grid platform for solving the large-scale power system applications. The platform is based on Globus Toolkit middleware and Grid Way meta-scheduler. It can enable large-scale sharing of computational resources across institutional boundary. This paper first discusses the architecture and each component of the platform, and then the test bed is described. Finally, the test results of probabilistic load flow (PLF) by Monte-Carlo simulation are presented. The test results show that the computational Grid system can provide comparable performance.

Abstract:The definition of the Grid computing and its application to geoinformatics are introduced. Not only the comparison of power Grid and computing Grid is illustrated, also Web technology and Grid technology are compared. The Hourglass Model of Grid architecture is depicted. The layered Grid architecture, relating to Internet protocol architecture, consists of the fabric (computer, storage, switches, etc.) layer, connectivity layer, resource layer, collective layer, and application layer. Grid computing has been applied to many disciplines and research areas, such as physics, Earth science, astronomy, bioinformatics, etc. By applying the Grid computing to Open Geospatial Consortium, Inc.’s Web services and geospatial standards from International Organization for Standardization, US Federal Geographic Data Committee and US NASA, a geospatial Grid is proposed here, which consisting of Grid-managed geospatial data and Grid-enabled geospatial services.

Abstract:Computation grid is the infrastructure for the next generation internet. In the past five years, research ongrid technology has been thriving and grid technology has been widely adopted by a number of government organiza-tions and research institutions to establish their own large-scale resource sharing network. This paper presents a re-view of recent research on elemental grid technology. We focus on a brief overview on Grid's protocol architecture. A Case Study of Grid-Enabled Visualization

Abstract:Scientific visualization is a process which involves massive data sets and highly intensive computation. Traditionally, it has been applicable and practicable by means of parallel techniques. With the increasing developments of computer hardware and network technologies, the hardware platform of parallel visualization has shifted from high-end parallel computers and graphics workstations to PC clusters and network connected PCs. Together with the tremendous evolution of the Internet, visualization applications began to utilize resources and provide services over the Internet. As an enabling technology for Internet wide distributed computing, grid favors a new research direction, i.e., grid-enabled visualization. In this paper, the state-of-the-art of grid-enabled visualization is surveyed and a Java-based grid-enabled visualization prototype GVis is proposed. This case study is a preliminary attempt to enable resource conglomeration, task coordination and user collaboration of visualization tasks by utilizing grid technologies.

Abstract:Grid computing for resources sharing and distributed computing has been researched widely in the past. As for distributed spatial datasets, the current centralized administrative scheme may become the system performance bottleneck. This paper presents a distributed cooperative grid computing technology to facilitate complex spatial applications by collaboration among distributed spatial resources. A hierarchical spatial index and communication protocol has been designed for the collaboration, which enables a dynamical choice for the best quality nodes for specified subtasks, synchronized execution, and compensation for a failure to execute a subtask. Also, we present an approach for dynamic resource allocation and distributed transaction mechanics to ensure consistency.

Abstract:With the development of science and technology, the intelligent knowledge resource will ultimately decide the fotune of enterprises. As a result, the efficient knowledge management will be the most necessary demand of contemporary enterprises. According to research and analyzing on knowldege resources the scale free characteristics of the knowledge network were discovered and a new concept of scale-free knowledge grid was put forward. The idea of grid computing and methodology of scale-free model were adopted in the design of a problem-solving-oriented scale-free knowledge grid (SK-Grid) which emphasizes on the efficient organization of knowledge resources instead the traditional knowledge data base with a dynamic knowledge network and enables distributed users to efficiently solve a complex problem. Furthermore the application of scale-fee methodology improves the rationality of knowledge management and prompts the evolution of method and technology of resource configuring. The concept architecture, key technologies and application of SK-Grid were addressed in the paper.

Abstract:With the rapid accumulation of geospatial data and the advancement of geoscience, there is a critical requirement for an infrastructure that can integrate large-scale, heterogeneous, and distributed storage systems for the sharing of geospatial data within multiple user communities. This article probes into the feasibility to share distributed geospatial data through Grid computing technology by introducing several major issues (including system heterogeneity, uniform mechanism to publish and discover geospatial data, performance, and security) to be faced by geospatial data sharing and how Grid technology can help to solve these issues. Some recent research efforts, such as ESG and the Data Grid system in GMU CSISS, have proven that Grid technology provides a large-scale infrastructure which can seamlessly integrate dispersed geospatial data together and provide uniform and efficient ways to access the data.

Abstract:A novel class of partially coherent light sources termed optical coherence grids (OCGs) are introduced that can yield stable optical grids in the far field. The optical grids, of which the light distributes in a network of straight lines crossing each other to form a series of hollow cages, can be seen as a better controlled optical lattice. Propagation properties of OCG beams in free space, including spectral density, transverse coherence, and M2 factor, are investigated in detail. It is interesting that a periodic grid pattern is produced at a distance and remains stable on further propagation, and we stress that the structure of far-field optical grids can be flexibly tuned by modulating the correlation parameters of the source. In addition, by performing convolution of degree of coherence, we also propose perfect optical coherence grids (POCG). The far-field grid pattern of POCG is in a fully controllable fashion. This work is expected to find applications in cooling atoms, trapping microscopic particles, or assembling cells, etc.

Abstract:Remote sensing applications often concern very large volumes of spatio-temporal data, the emerging Grid computing technologies bring an effective solution to this problem. The Open Grid Services Architecture (OGSA) treats Grid as the aggregate of Grid service, which is extension of Web Service. It defines standard mechanisms for creating, naming, and discovering transient Grid service instances; provides location transparency and multiple protocol bindings for service instances; and supports integration with underlying native platform facilities. It is not effective used in data-intensive computing such as remote sensing applications because its foundation, Web Service, is not efficient in scientific computing. How to increase the efficiency of the grid services for a scientific computing? This paper proposes a mechanism Grid service spread (GSS), which dynamically replant a Grid service from a Grid node to the others. We have more computers to provide the same function, so less time can be spent completing a problem than original Grid system. This paper also provides the solution how to adept the service duplicate for the destination node’s Grid environment; how each service duplicate communicates with each other; how to manage the lifecycle of services spread etc. The efficiency of this solution through a remote sensing application of NDVI computing is demonstrated. It shows that this method is more efficient for processing huge amount of remotely sensed data.

Abstract:With the development of Grid technology and the extension of Grid application areas, it needs to provide core infrastructure platform and the necessary functional components for large-scale resources sharing and collaboration. Based on the previous implementation of interactive Grid visualization system, this paper extends its runtime environment layer to provide Grid supports for the existing distributed simulation support platform and parallel graphics rendering system based on PC cluster, consequently realizes dynamic resource allocation and scheduling. Additionally, we present and implement a Grid-based distributed simulation and parallel rendering system which provides large-scale distributed simulation service and parallel rendering as well as high-resolution multi-screen tiled display service of massive complex scene to end users through an extended Grid portal.
