Establishment of Outpatient Department for Catheter Nursing and Practice

Abstract:Objective To solve the problem of the while-hospital-stay catheter quality supervision and post-discharge extended nursing,thus improving the venous infusion quality.Methods The staff and the requirements were first determined,and the work duties and regulations,work flow,operation standard and quality control standard were formulated,and catheter nursing,PICC intubation for difficult patients,health education,inside-and-outside hospital group consultation,training and guidance,and acrosshospital venous infusion quality supervision were conducted.Results 108 cases times of PICC intubation for difficult patients,3 820 cases times catheter maintenance,were performed;55 inside-and-outside hospital group consultations were held,298 nurses were trained,and 46 person times visits by other hospitals were made.After the implementation of the infusion quality supervision,the venous infection rate were 0.06%～0.24%,with the infusion security enhanced.Conclusion The establishment and practice of the patient-centered outpatient department for catheter nursing,increases the patient’s satisfaction,relieves the ward job pressure,provides opportunities for nurses’ professional development,and brings into fuller play their job zeal.Also,the infusion security management network controlled beforehand was established,offering a platform for further studies.
