Why is the recanalization rate different after the identical anticoagulation?——Clinical implications of degree of portal vein thrombosis

Abstract:A prospective multi-center cohort study entitled"Acute portal vein thrombosis unrelated to cirrhosis"was published in"Hepatology"on January,2010.We read with very great interest the study from the European Network for Vascular Disorders of the Liver(EN-Vie) providing stronger evidence of anticoagulation for acute portal vein thrombosis(PVT) without cirrhosis than any previous retrospective studies with a smaller sample size.Despite the clear and valuable results in the study,the existence of a statistically significant difference between recanalization rate of portal vein and that of splenic or superior mesenteric vein is confusing.Thus we wrote a correspondence to the journal,focusing on the further analysis of the paradoxical problem.
