Abstract:This study aimed to elucidate the potential profiles of mobile phone addiction among Chinese undergraduate freshmen and its relationship with emotion. Administering scales to a sample of 3327 participants (Mage = 18.33, SD = 0.81; 43.67% males) with the Mobile Phone Addiction Index Scale (MPAI) and the Positive and Negative Affect Schedule (PANAS), and the research employs latent profile analysis to elucidate the heterogeneity in mobile phone addiction within this demographic. Furthermore, the study scrutinizes the influence of various demographic variables on this heterogeneity. Our findings delineate four distinct latent profiles of mobile phone addiction: Non-addicted, Low-addicted, Moderately-addicted, and Highly-addicted. Notably, female students, individuals from rural backgrounds, and those with experiences of being left-behind emerge as particularly susceptible to varying degrees of mobile phone addiction. Additionally, students classified as Non-addicted exhibited significantly higher positive affect scores compared to those in the Low-addicted, Moderately-addicted, and Highly-addicted profiles. In contrast, students in the Highly-addicted profile had significantly elevated negative affect scores relative to the Non-addicted, Low-addicted, and Moderately-addicted groups. The study furnishes a theoretical foundation for higher education institutions to implement stratified and typological prevention and intervention measures aimed at mitigating student mobile phone addiction.

Abstract:This research aims to explore adolescents' social development difference between Internet addicts and normal adolescents.The results show:(1) In the interaction skill such as social inhibition,no difference between Internet addicts and normal adolescents was found;(2) there was significant difference in the social events,the time spent on the Internet,subjective well-being,social support,aggression,self consistency and congruence between Internet addicts and normal adolescents.

Abstract:The aim of this study was to explore the evolution of the relationship between Internet use on psychological well-being from elementary school, middle school, to high schools. Randomized stratified sampling was used. Participants were 3, 185 teens in Kunming, a city located in southwest China. They were asked to complete a questionnaire on Internet Use and Well-Being Scale. The result indicated a relationship existed between Internet use and psychological well-being. Higher grade students used Internet earlier, spent more total time online per week, and scored lower psychological well-being. Students of middle and high school shared more similarity on Internet usage behavior and content preference of social and study services. Significant difference existed on loneliness and anxiety among elementary-, middle-, and high-schools. Compared with females, males significantly used the Internet earlier, more frequently, more for all Internet services, and scored higher psychological well-being. The difference between genders was also discussed. © 2011 IEEE.

Abstract:Using the questionnaire on teenagers from Zhejiang,Hunan and Gansu,the paper makes a quantitative analysis of the juvenile net communication structure.It is concluded that cyberspace has become a new arena for daily communication among juvenile net users.Net communication not only helps juvenile net users maintain their existing social relations but also extends their social relation network.The basic principle sustaining the net interaction among juvenile net users is chiefly the pleasure they obtained from the interaction itself and internet has changed to a considerable degree their communication behavior.For many of juvenile net users,cyberspace is not only a medium for interaction but also a medium for self-expression which is made more open,diversified and flexible.The social communication in cyberspace among teenagers concentrates on personal interest,perception and emotion conveyance to be shared among strangers.

Abstract:This paper reports an interviewstudy about the practice of teenagers' chat-based cosplay in China. Findings reveal the four primary motivations of the participants and their main practice in chat-based cosplay. We found that adolescents perceived character presentation and portrayal as a central aspect of chat-based cosplay and they devoted significant effort to refine their characters to achieve higher character consistency. We highlighted the positive feedback loop between social relationships and story creation in chat-based cosplay community. In addition, we identified the influence and negative experiences on adolescents in the chat-based cosplay community.

Abstract:The purpose of this paper is to analyze the attitudes and perceptions of adolescents with regard to sexual chat, a common deviant leisure activity carried out on the Internet, and suggest what information is needed to assist the establishment of education material for teachers and parents, and establish policies for schools and other education organizations. The research is limited to middle and high school students and focuses on sexual chatting in cyber space. Stratified sampling was conducted in 18 cities and counties in Gangwondo, and 2023 useful samples were obtained. Approximately 8% (138 students) of the respondents had experienced online sexual chatting and the average time (duration) of use was 12 minutes per week. Fifty five percent of the students had the motivation of simple curiosity, 24.5% emotional excitement, 11.9% killing time, 10.7% entertainment, 8.8% stress release, and 6.0% were imitating adult sexual activity. The adolescents reported feeling nothing special after the chatting (50.3%), the instinct to imitate (16.9%), stress release (16.6%), abhorrence (15.1%), and guilt and shame (12.9%). Several recommendations for adolescent education in relation to deviant leisure activities are suggested.

Abstract:Based on a survey on undergraduates of Shanghai Jiao Tong University (N=599),this study focuses on the influence of online chatting towards the students' socialized activi- ties.The survey shows that the online chatting encourages youth's social interactions and it not only strengthens their ties with acquaintances,but also develops the relationship with the online friends,although the extension of their social communications has not been significantly expanded.The paper concludes that rather than a substitute,online re- lationship is the supplement and extension of the students' social communications.

Abstract:Objective:To explore the psychological characteristics of internet overuse in youngsters.Methods:Internet Addiction examination made by Young was used to identify internet overuse in youngsters.Results:Prevalence rate of chatting and associating with friends,listening to music and watching movies as the purpose of internet overuse in IOT youngsters were significantly higher than in IOU(χ2=6.287~6.754,P0.05).Internet overuse in youngsters,body symptom were remarkable,prevalence rate of feeling dread,remorse,being controlled,limiting of thought and the index of depres- sion were relative higher.Conclusion:Psychological intervention was necessary to internet overuse youngsters.

Abstract:More and more adolescents today are suffering from various adolescent stress. Too much stress will bring a variety of physical and psychological problems including anxiety, depression, and even suicide to the growing youths, whose outlook on life and problem-solving ability are still immature enough. Traditional face-to-face stress detection and relief methods do not work, confronted with adolescents who are reluctant to express their negative emotions to the people in real life. In this paper, we present a adolescent-oriented intelligent chatting system called TeenChat, which acts as a virtual friend to listen, understand, comfort, encourage, and guide stressful adolescents to pour out their bad feelings, and thus releasing the stress. Our 1-month user study demonstrates TeenChat is effective on sensing and helping adolescents' stress.

Four factors were constructed for the ques-tionnaire, including time-place distribution, internet-name usages, interaction mode and its development, and positive/negative opinions dominated. Finally, eight psychological characteristics were mentioned and discussed.

Abstract:This paper presents empirical qualitative results of Internet heavy-use and addiction among some college students in Taiwan. It offers in-depth, online interviews of student-subjects in order to facilitate an interdisciplinary understanding of Internet heavy use, addiction and its potential impacts. A total of 83 subjects were interviewed, both as individuals and in chat-room groups. The analysis of qualitative data presented in six major themes: (1) Internet use and reasons; (2) Internet features; (3) the Internet as replacement for other media; (4) impact of Internet overuse; (5) controlling Internet use; and (6) coping with Internet withdrawal. Discussions, explanations, along with examples and quotes from subjects, are provided in each section. Implications for student affairs administrators and further research directions are also addressed.

Abstract:With the rapid development of the Internet, the Internet cafe has become an integrated network of information services and entertainment field which provide many services for people such as browsing information, participating in online games, chatting or entertaining online as well as receiving and dispatching e-mails. Abstract:[Objective] To investigate the status of internet utilization among middle school students and undergraduates in Beijing,and to explore for the internet effect on psycho-social capacity of students so as to provide basis for mental health education in school. [Methods] A questionnaire survey was conducted among 575 middle school students and undergraduates in Beijing. [Results] The addictive rates for junior school students,high school students and undergraduateds were 6.3%,8.2% and 8.0%,respectively. The proportion of internet addicted students who spent more than 4 hours on playing electronic games or network was significantly more than that of non-internet addicted students(P﹤0.05) . The principal purpose of using internet for junior high school students was multimedia entertainment and learning,for high school students was multimedia entertainment and chatting,for undergraduate was chatting,browsing news and multimedia entertainment. The principal purpose using internet for internet addicted students was playing games,chatting and multimedia entertainment,which was significantly higher than the non-internet addicted students. The psycho-social capacity scores of internet addition students were lower than non-internet addicted students. [Conclusion] Over use of internet has great influence on young's studies and the development of mental health. Health education should be enhanced and early life-skills intervention should be given to the students with internet addition tendency in order to strengthen their psycho-social capacity.

Abstract:An increasing number of young people in this era of new media have access to the web, which is both simpler and more convenient to use. Internet users have contributed to the emergence of a new language and cultural phenomenon known as Internet slang and memes. Previous studies have addressed and evaluated the many spread phenomena of Internet slang and memes in the last decade, but there has been little focus given to teenagers, despite the fact that this demographic makes up an increasingly large proportion of Internet users. The influence that Internet slang and memes have on Chinese teenagers is the focus of this research. The research question is to analyze how the characteristics of online slang and memes affect Chinese teenagers. A review of the relevant literature and analysis of case studies form the basis of the research method. The research concludes that Internet slang and memes, with their simplicity, diversity, and sustainability, have a greater negative impact on teenagers language expression, perception of thinking ways, and mental health. The most feasible strategy to address the issue is the implementation of proactive steps by regulatory bodies to regulate and improve the digital environment. Parents and educators should take a balanced and patient approach to guiding teenagers to develop competence in utilizing language in a standardized manner.

Abstract:Nowadays, online gaming has become the mainstream behavior of teenager students.To explore the influence of the electronic game upon teenagers, a national-scale questionnaire survey focused on teenager students and parents was conducted. By analyzing group characteristics, school features and family factors of the non-gamers, the baseline group accounting for 35. 7%of the total, the study found:1) Girl students from small&medium-scaled cities with a low family income have a higher proportion to become non-electronic gamer;2) No simple negative linear correlation is shown between academic performance and game behavior, as girl students with better grades have a lower proportion of non-gamers; 3 ) The relationship between teachers and students positively predicts the ratio of non-gamers.When the variable“academic performance” is controlled, the worse the teacher-student relationship is, the lower the proportion of students of non-gamers;4) Non-gamers have a relatively small number of peer friends.Two ideal types,“tight small group” and “loose partnership”, exist in the interactive mode of non-gamers with their friends;5) The family of the non-gamer teenagers lies in a disadvantaged position in social stratification. Disadvantages are shown concerning the family income, the self-assessed living standard, the occupational prestige of parents, the family cultural capital, the family living conditions and other indicators;6) Family living standard positively predicts the at-titudes of parents toward the online game.Parents of non-gamers who have lower living standards hold totally negative attitudes toward the electronic game;7) The non-gamer family shows obvious traditional patriarchal characteristics, with lower frequency of parent-child interaction within the family.
