Abstract:We use the Atiyah-Bott-Segal-Singer Lefschetz fixed point formula to calculate the Hirzebruch ?y genus Xy(S[n]), where S[n] is the Hilbert scheme of points of length n of a surface S. Combinatorial interpretation of the weights of the fixed points of the natural torus action on ( 2)[n] is used. This is the first step to prove a conjectural formula about the elliptic genus of the Hilbert schemes.

Abstract:We study index theory on homogeneous spaces associated to an almost connected Lie group in terms of the topological aspect and the analytic aspect. On the topological aspect, we obtain a topological formula as a result of the Riemann-Roch formula for proper cocompact actions of the Lie group, inspired by the work of Paradan and Vergne. On the analytic aspect, we apply heat kernel methods to obtain a local index formula representing the higher indices of equivariant elliptic operators with respect to a proper cocompact actions of the Lie group.

Abstract:Let $S$ be a surface isogenous to a product of curves of unmixed type. After presenting several results useful to study the cohomology of $S$ we prove a structure theorem for the cohomology of regular surfaces isogenous to a product of unmixed type with $\chi (\mathcal{O}_S)=2$. In particular we found two families of surfaces of general type with maximal Picard number.

Abstract:In this paper we consider a class of connected closed G-manifolds with anon-empty finite fixed point set, each M of which is totally non-homologousto zero in M_G (or G-equivariantly formal), where G= Z_2. With thehelp of the equivariant index, we give an explicit description of theequivariant cohomology of such a G-manifold in terms of algebra, so that wecan obtain analytic descriptions of ring isomorphisms among equivariantcohomology rings of such G-manifolds, and a necessary and sufficientcondition that the equivariant cohomology rings of such two G-manifolds areisomorphic. This also leads us to analyze how many there are equivariantcohomology rings up to isomorphism for such G-manifolds in 2- and3-dimensional cases.

We compute the rational cohomology of this space in a stable range which goes to infinity with g . In fact, in this stable range we are also able to obtain information about torsion in the cohomology of this space, as long as we localise away from ( g -1).

Abstract:In this paper, we ask: for which $(g, n)$ is the rational Chow or cohomology ring of $\overline{\mathcal{M}}_{g,n}$ generated by tautological classes? This question has been fully answered in genus $0$ by Keel (the Chow and cohomology rings are tautological for all $n$) and genus $1$ by Belorousski (the rings are tautological if and only if $n \leq 10$). For $g \geq 2$, work of van Zelm shows the Chow and cohomology rings are not tautological once $2g + n \geq 24$, leaving finitely many open cases. Here, we prove that the Chow and cohomology rings of $\overline{\mathcal{M}}_{g,n}$ are isomorphic and generated by tautological classes for $g = 2$ and $n \leq 9$ and for $3 \leq g \leq 7$ and $2g + n \leq 14$. For such $(g, n)$, this implies that the tautological ring is Gorenstein and $\overline{\mathcal{M}}_{g,n}$ has polynomial point count.

Abstract:We show that for singular hypersurfaces, a version of their genus-zero Gromov-Witten theory may be described in terms of a direct limit of fixed point Floer cohomology groups, a construction which is more amenable to computation and easier to define than the technical foundations of the enumerative geometry of more general singular symplectic spaces. As an illustration, we give a direct proof of closed-string mirror symmetry for nodal curves of genus greater than or equal to 2, using calculations of (co)product structures on fixed point Floer homology of Dehn twists due to Yao-Zhao.

Abstract:We prove that the Serre spectral sequence of the fibration $\overline{\mathcal M}_{0, 1+p} \to E\mathbb Z/p \times_{\mathbb Z/p} \overline{\mathcal M}_{0, 1+p} \to B \mathbb Z/p$ collapses at the $E_2$ page. We use this to prove that: for any element of the $\mathbb Z/p$-equivariant cohomology with $\mathbb F_p$-coefficients of genus zero Deligne-Mumford space with $1+p$ marked points, if this element is torsion then it is non-equivariant. This concludes that the only "interesting" $\mathbb Z/p$-equivariant operations are quantum Steenrod power operations.

Abstract:We use a topological framework to study descendent Gromov-Witten theory in higher genus, non-toric settings. Two geometries are considered: surfaces of general type and the Enriques Calabi-Yau threefold. We conjecture closed formulas for surfaces of general type in classes K and 2K. For the Enriques Calabi-Yau, Gromov-Witten invariants are calculated in genus 0, 1, and 2. In genus 2, the holomorphic anomaly equation is found.

Cohomology operations for moment-angle complexes and resolutions of Stanley-Reisner rings

Abstract:A fundamental result in toric topology identifies the cohomology ring of the moment-angle complex $\mathcal{Z}_K$ associated to a simplicial complex $K$ with the Koszul homology of the Stanley--Reisner ring of $K$. By studying cohomology operations induced by the standard torus action on the moment-angle complex, we extend this to a topological interpretation of the minimal free resolution of the Stanley-Reisner ring. The exterior algebra module structure in cohomology induced by the torus action recovers the linear part of the minimal free resolution, and we show that higher cohomology operations induced by the action (in the sense of Goresky-Kottwitz-MacPherson) can be assembled into an explicit differential on the resolution. Describing these operations in terms of Hochster's formula, we recover and extend a result due to Katthän. We then apply all of this to study the equivariant formality of torus actions on moment-angle complexes. For these spaces, we obtain complete algebraic and combinatorial characterisations of which subtori of the naturally acting torus act equivariantly formally.

Hameomorphism Groups of Positive Genus Surfaces

Abstract:In their previous works <a class="link-https" data-arxiv-id="2105.11026" href="https://arxiv.org/abs/2105.11026">arXiv:2105.11026</a>, <a class="link-https" data-arxiv-id="2206.10749" href="https://arxiv.org/abs/2206.10749">arXiv:2206.10749</a>, Cristofaro-Gardiner, Humilière, Mak, Seyfaddini and Smith defined links spectral invariants on connected compact surfaces and used them to show various results on the algebraic structure of the group of area-preserving homeomorphisms of surfaces, particularly in cases where the surfaces have genus zero. We show that on surfaces with higher genus, for a certain class of links, the invariants will satisfy a local quasimorphism property. Subsequently, we generalize their results to surfaces of any genus. This extension includes the non-simplicity of (i) the group of hameomorphisms of a closed surface, and (ii) the kernel of the Calabi homomorphism inside the group of hameomorphisms of a surface with non-empty boundary. Moreover, we prove that the Calabi homomorphism extends (non-canonically) to the $C^0$-closure of the set of Hamiltonian diffeomorphisms of any surface. The local quasimorphism property is a consequence of a quantitative Künneth formula for a connected sum in Heegaard Floer homology, inspired by results of Ozsváth and Szabó.

Abstract:It is a long-established and heavily-used fact that the integral cohomology ring of the Deligne-Mumford moduli space of (complex) rational curves is the polynomial ring on the boundary divisors modulo the ideal generated by the obvious geometric relations between them. We show that the rational cohomology ring of the Deligne-Mumford moduli space of real rational curves with conjugate marked points only is the polynomial ring on certain (``complex") boundary divisors and real boundary hypersurfaces modulo the ideal generated by the obvious geometric relations between them and the geometric relation in positive dimension and codimension identified in a previous paper.

Homology of configuration spaces of surfaces modulo an odd prime

Abstract:For a compact orientable surface $\Sigma_{g,1}$ of genus $g$ with one boundary component and for an odd prime number $p$, we study the homology of the unordered configuration spaces $C_\bullet(\Sigma_{g,1}):=\coprod_{n\ge0}C_n(\Sigma_{g,1})$ with coefficients in $\mathbb{F}_p$. We describe $H_*(C_\bullet(\Sigma_{g,1});\mathbb{F}_p)$ as a bigraded module over the Pontryagin ring $H_*(C_\bullet(D);\mathbb{F}_p)$, where $D$ is a disc, and compute in particular the bigraded dimension over $\mathbb{F}_p$. We also consider the action of the mapping class group $\Gamma_{g,1}$, and prove that the mod-$p$ Johnson kernel $\mathcal{K}_{g,1}(p)\subseteq\Gamma_{g,1}$ is the kernel of the action on $H_*(C_\bullet(\Sigma_{g,1};\mathbb{F}_p))$.

Degree zero Gromov--Witten invariants for smooth curves

Abstract:For a smooth projective curve, we derive a closed formula for the generating series of its Gromov--Witten invariants in genus $g$ and degree zero. It is known that the calculation of these invariants can be reduced to that of the $\lambda_g$ and $\lambda_{g-1}$ integrals on the moduli space of stable algebraic curves. The closed formula for the $\lambda_g$ integrals is given by the $\lambda_g$ conjecture, proved by Faber and Pandharipande. We compute in this paper the $\lambda_{g-1}$ integrals via solving the degree zero limit of the loop equation associated to the complex projective line.

Abstract:A. Local holomorphic De Rham cohomology introduced in this paper and punctured local holomorphic De Rham cohomology introduced by Huang-Luk-Yau are two important local invariants for varieties with isolated singularities. We find some relations between these two invariants and the invariants defined by Steenbrink on surface singularities, and from which we use these two invariants to describe when a Gorenstein singularity is quasi-homogeneous.
Structural properties of the lattice cohomology of curve singularities

Abstract:The lattice cohomology of a reduced curve singularity is a bigraded ${\mathbb Z}[U]$-module ${\mathbb H}^*=\oplus_{q,n}{\mathbb H}^q_{2n}$, that categorifies the $\delta$-invariant and extract key geometric information from the semigroup of values. In the present paper we prove three structure theorems for this new invariant: (a) the weight-grading of the reduced cohomology is (just as in the case of the topological lattice cohomology of normal surface singularities) nonpositive; (b) the graded ${\mathbb Z}[U]$-module structure of ${\mathbb H}^0$ determines whether or not a given curve is Gorenstein; and finally (c) the lattice cohomology module ${\mathbb H}^0$ of any plane curve singularity determines its multiplicity.

Abstract:Putman and Wieland conjectured that if Σ∼→Σ is a finite branched cover between closed oriented surfaces of sufficiently high genus, then the orbits of all nonzero elements of H1(Σ∼;Q) under the action of lifts to Σ∼ of mapping classes on Σ are infinite. We prove that this holds if H1(Σ∼;Q) is generated by the homology classes of lifts of simple closed curves on Σ . We also prove that the subspace of H1(Σ∼;Q) spanned by such lifts is a symplectic subspace. Finally, simple closed curves lie on subsurfaces homeomorphic to 2‐holed spheres, and we prove that H1(Σ∼;Q) is generated by the homology classes of lifts of loops on Σ lying on subsurfaces homeomorphic to 3‐holed spheres.
