Abstract:Assembly process is a critical stage in the formation of product quality and reliability, but related consideration of the produced product reliability and accident risk has not attracted deserved attention in the most assembly quality analysis frameworks. To this end, this paper enhances risk analysis in assembly process quality control, which is advocated by ISO 9001:2015, and presents a risk-oriented assembly quality analysis approach considering the effects of assembly variations on the produced product reliability degradation and accident risk. First, a conceptual QRR chain is presented to illustrate the relationship among assembly process quality (Q), product reliability (R), and failure accident risk (R). Second, a risk-oriented and bidirectional framework for the analysis of assembly process quality is established based on the presented QRR chain aiming to quantitatively identify the risk sources in the assembly process and reduce the risk of failure accidents. Third, an assembly process quality risk model with key function reliability as its core is presented to establish the quantitative relationship between assembly variation and product failure accident risk. Finally, the presented approach is verified through a case study of an assembling quality risk analysing for acid-resistant grinder.

Abstract:Assembly quality prediction of complex products is vital in modern smart manufacturing systems. In recent years, data-driven approaches have obtained various outstanding engineering achievements in quality prediction. However, the imbalanced quality label makes it difficult for conventional quality prediction methods to learn accurate decision boundaries, resulting in weak prediction capabilities. Moreover, the multiple working condition data information in the assembly system presents another challenge to quality prediction. To handle the above issues, a multiscale cost-sensitive learning-based assembly quality prediction approach is proposed in this paper. First, an improved Gaussian mixture model is developed to automatically partition the global multicondition data into several diverse subspaces. Then, the local cost-sensitive learning models are employed to tackle imbalanced data in each subspace. Finally, by leveraging Bayesian inference, multiple local cost-sensitive learning models are integrated to obtain a global multiscale prediction model. To validate the effectiveness of the proposed method, the quality prediction comparative experiments are conducted on two real-world assembly systems. The favorable results demonstrate the superiority of the proposed method in assembly quality prediction.

Abstract:We consider a supply-assembly-store chain with produce-to-stock strategy, which comprises a set of component suppliers, a mixed-model assembly line with a constantly moving conveyor linking a set of workstations in series, and a set of product storehouses. Each supplier provides components of a specified family, which are assembled at a corresponding workstation. Units belonging to different models of products are sequentially fed onto the conveyor, and pass through the workstations to generate finished products. Each storehouse stores finished products belonging to a specific model for satisfying customer demands. The suppliers deliver components according to a just-in-time supply policy with stochastic leadtimes. Customer demands for a particular model of products arrive at the corresponding storehouse according to a Poisson stream. The paper conducts a modeling and performance analysis in the design stage of the system in the sense of "long-term-behavior". A rolling technique is constructed for analyzing stationary probability distributions of the numbers of components. A two-dimensional Markov chain with infinite states is introduced for analyzing stationary probability distributions of inventories of finished products. Based on these distributions, performance measures of the system, such as work-in-process of components, inventory amounts of finished products, as well as service levels for customers, can be easily obtained. Abstract:Component commonality has been widely recognized as an important way to achieve product variety at low cost. This topic has drawn lots of attention from researchers and most results are built primarily on static models (single-period models or multi-period, periodic-review models with zero lead times) and their results typically show that using common component can be beneficial and significant when the number of products increases, demand correlation decreases and the degree of commonality increases[1][2]. Unlike most of the studies on the component commonality problem before, we study a multi-product ATO system which has stochastic component lead times is positive and demand for the product takes place continuously over time according to an independent Poisson process. We formulate the problem as a Markov decision process and by conducting a series of numerical studies we find that some properties exist in the static models do not hold in dynamic circumstance anymore.

Abstract:Modeling and analysis of multi-stage manufacturing systems (MMSs) for product quality propagation have attracted a great deal of attention recently. Due to cost and resources constraints, MMSs do not always have ubiquitous inspection, and MMSs with remote quality information feedback (RQIF, i.e., quality inspection operation is conducted at the end of the production line) are widely applied. This paper develops a Markov model to analyze quality propagation in MMSs with RQIF. Analytical expressions of the final product quality are derived and the monotonicity properties are investigated. A quality bottleneck identification method is explored based on the proposed Markov model. The results of case study demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed model.

Abstract:The flexible manufacturing system (FMS) has attracted substantial amount of research effort during the last twenty years. Most of the studies address the issues of flexibility, productivity, cost, and so forth. The impact of flexible lines on product quality is less studied. This paper intends to address this issue by applying a Markov model to evaluate quality performance of a flexible manufacturing system. Closed expressions to calculate good part probability are derived and discussions to maintain high product quality are carried out. An example of flexible fixture in machining system is provided to illustrate the applicability of the method. The results of this study suggest a possible approach to investigate the impact of flexibility on product quality and, finally, with extensions and enrichment of the model, may lead to provide production engineers and managers a better understanding of the quality implications and to summarize some general guidelines of operation management in flexible manufacturing systems.

Abstract:This paper advanced the solution of Markov state transfer chain to analyze the system reliability. According to the conversion of mutual relations, the paper put forward a method to calculate the life expectancy of top events in Markov quantitative analysis. Afterwards the paper presented the failure mode, failure rate and life expectancy of the top events. Meanwhile, the paper presented the method to calculate probability of important bottom events to top events. Finally the research is verified in the analysis of a city rail traffic automatic train super-vision system.

Abstract:The assembly quality of a complex product is the result of the combined effects of multiple manufacturing stages, including design, machining and assembly, and it is influenced by associated elements with complex coupling mechanisms. These elements generate and transmit assembly quality deviations during the assembly process which are difficult to analyze and express effectively. Current studies have focused on the analysis and optimization of the assembly surface errors of single or few components, while lacking attention to the impact of errors on the whole product. Therefore, in order to solve the above problem, an assembly quality deviation analysis (AQDA) model is constructed in this paper to analyze the deviation transfer process in the assembly process of complex products and to obtain the key features to optimize. Firstly, the assembly process information is extracted and the assembly quality network model is established on the basis of complex networks. Second, the Jacobian-Torsor (J-T) model is introduced to form a network edge weighting method suitable for the assembly process to objectively express the error propagation among product part features. Third, an error propagation model (EPM) is designed to simulate the error propagation and diffusion processes in the assembly network. Finally, the assembly process of an aero-engine fan rotor is used as an example for modeling and analysis. The results show that the proposed method can effectively identify the key assembly features in the assembly process of complex products and determine the key quality optimization points and monitoring points of the products, which can provide a decision basis for product quality optimization and control.

Abstract:To give scientific props for decisions on the quality of products and to improve the integral quality of products, taking mechanical product quality characteristic as the object of study, the dynamic characteristic of product quality in total life cycle is analyzed and the quality characteristic is divided into the technical quality characteristic and the descriptive quality characteristic from the measurable viewpoint. The scope and the weighting of the quality characteristic are determined with quality function deployment, extension analytic hierarchy process (AHP) and combinatorial weighted method. Then the two kinds of quality characteristics at various life cycle stages are analyzed and calculated by applying quality tools such as Taguchi quality loss model, "P-E" system, quality-cost model so that the total life cycle-based quality-driven product model is established. Finally, taking numerically-controlled machine tools as an example, the model and method proposed is verified, proving the effectiveness of the model.

Abstract:Prediction and optimization of product qualities related to molecular structure is a technical problem needed to be addressed. Based on the rigorous process model and simultaneous dynamic optimization strategies, research tasks were presented around the optimization of sequencing decisions and grade transitions with molecular structure quality measurement taken into account. Topics and difficulties were discussed in dynamic simulation, model revision, and transition optimization, and results of related research work were presented as well. At the end of this paper, possible development was proposed for the research on this dynamic problem in its formulation, analysis, and solution.

Abstract:Traceability is a basic concept of quality management and an important means to ensure product quality and safety and to improve the accountability mechanism., However, there are few studies on the modeling and analysis of the operational efficiency of traceability system. This paper presents a traceability performance analysis model based on Markov chain theory. Secondly, the theoretical values of the steady-state performance of the system are derived. Finally, the accuracy of the proposed model is verified by simulation, and the effects of the number of traceable nodes and traceable information on the performance of the traceability system are analyzed.

Abstract:Aimed at the issue of dimensional constraint in the process of assembly variant design,a part information model of assembly was presented.The basic principle of assembly variant design was researched.A set of basic constraint groups were defined according to the mating relationship type among constituent parts of assembly,and the dimensional relationship model reflecting the relationship among constituent parts of each constraint group was established.With the help of tabular layouts of article characteristics technology,the top-down variant design process of assembly was realized.The feasibility of the model was verified through the variant design case of assembly trolley.The results show that the part information model and dimensional relationship model among constituent assembly parts can satisfy the requirement of dimensional transferring during variant design process,and support the variant design of assembly.

Abstract:Considering the problem of assembly constraints evolution in the process of product assembly design,a method of assembly constraints modeling based on mating surface couples was presented.The mating surface couple was defined according to the basic assembly constraint factors,and a set of their basic types were completed.A frame network graph model of the assembly constraints and an extension network graph model of mating constraints were built to express the assembly structures and constraints.The evolution of the assembly process was described by the decomposition of assembly constraints,and the algorithms of dynamic assembly modeling were designed and implemented.Research results show that the proposed method can transform the abstract assembly constraints into specific descriptions of structure,and express the evolution of assembly state and process information,and realize the top-down product assembly design.

Abstract:The essence of product assembly modeling is how to express the external and internal relations of assembly unit.Analyzing geometric modeling information of assembly unit,matching and connecting information and the constraint law of design,this paper puts forward a kind of general assembly modeling.This method is based on hiberarchy information of assembly unit,which is related to topological connecting information of assembly unit.It is designed to supporting product of lifecycle engineering design(LCED).There are the following advantages of this method:(1)Its modeling corresponds to the conceptual modeling of designer in data structure,which is easy for the designer to understand;(2)supporting the top-down design and the whole process of product LCED.

Abstract:In this paper, a Markov chain model is introduced to study product quality in flexible manufacturing systems with batch productions. Using this model, we introduce good and defective states as the cycles where good quality and defective parts are produced, respectively. Then the product quality is a function of the transition probabilities characterizing the changes among good and defective states. To improve product quality, identifying the transition that has the largest impact on quality is important, and such transition is referred to as the quality bottleneck transition (BN-t). Analytical expressions to quantify the sensitivity of quality with respect to transition probabilities are derived, and indicators to identify the BN-t based on the data collected on the factory floor are developed. Through extensive numerical experiments, it is shown that such indicators have high accuracy in identifying the correct bottlenecks and can be used as an effective tool for quality improvement effort. Finally, a case study at an automotive paint shop is presented to illustrate the applicability of the method.

Abstract:Assembly quality as a key indicator of the performance of complex products requires the development of a predictive product model that integrates part and process information. Furthermore, deriving a high-quality assembly model is important for accurate assembly modeling and simulation. At present, assembly modeling mainly considers the geometric errors of the parts induced by manufacturing processes, and ignores a number of parameters in the real environment, which leads to inconsistencies when assembling the parts, and difficulties in meeting the performance requirements of high-precision products. Therefore, to further improve the accuracy of assembly simulation, digital technologies are extensively used to reproduce the assembly process of complex products digitally and guide the actual production and assembly of parts. In this paper, by collecting and processing real data of complex products, a hierarchical model of a complex assembly including geometric shape, position constraint and physical state is constructed, and the corresponding reverse engineering model is built. Digital twins are thereafter constructed and mapped to the real parts. Based on this, real-time data of the resource layer, the process layer and the environment layer in the assembly process are integrated, and a digital representation of complex assembly is proposed. A case study of a bearing seat highlights the applicability of the proposed approach. The data collected from the scanned bearing seat integrates the constraint information of the assembly features and the bearing seat's physical information to construct a digital twin of the bearing seat.

Abstract:Abstract In this paper, a Markov chain model is introduced to study quality in flexible manufacturing systems with batch productions. To improve the quality performance in such systems, we introduce the notions of quality improvability and bottleneck sequence. A flexible system is improvable in terms of quality with respect to sequencing if there exists another sequence which renders better quality. In addition, we define quality bottleneck sequence as the one that impedes the product quality in the strongest manner, i.e., the sequence that leads to the worst quality among all possible sequences. To identify quality improvability and bottleneck sequences, we develop indicators only based on the data available on the factory floor. Numerical experiments show that these indicators provide correct identification in most cases, and can be used for quality improvement effectively. A case study at an automotive paint shop is introduced to illustrate the applicability of the method.
