Abstract:This paper studies the higher differentials of the classical Adams spectral sequence at odd primes. In particular, we follow the ``cofiber of $\tau$ philosophy'' of Gheorghe, Isaksen, Wang, and Xu to show that higher Adams differentials agree with their corresponding higher algebraic Novikov differentials in a certain range.

Abstract:In filtration 1 of the Adams spectral sequence, using secondary cohomology operations, Adams computed the differentials on the classes $h_j$, resolving the Hopf invariant one problem. In Adams filtration 2, using equivariant and chromatic homotopy theory, Hill--Hopkins--Ravenel proved that the classes $h_j^2$ support non-trivial differentials for $j \geq 7$, resolving the celebrated Kervaire invariant one problem. The precise differentials on the classes $h_j^2$ for $j \geq 7$ and the fate of $h_6^2$ remains unknown. In this paper, in Adams filtration 3, we prove an infinite family of non-trivial $d_4$-differentials on the classes $h_j^3$ for $j \geq 6$, confirming a conjecture of Mahowald. Our proof uses two different deformations of stable homotopy theory -- $\mathbb{C}$-motivic stable homotopy theory and $\mathbb{F}_2$-synthetic homotopy theory -- both in an essential way. Along the way, we also show that $h_j^2$ survives to the Adams $E_5$-page and that $h_6^2$ survives to the Adams $E_9$-page.

Abstract:Power functions with low $c$-differential uniformity have been widely studied not only because of their strong resistance to multiplicative differential attacks, but also low implementation cost in hardware. Furthermore, the $c$-differential spectrum of a function gives a more precise characterization of its $c$-differential properties. Let $f(x)=x^{\frac{p^n+3}{2}}$ be a power function over the finite field $\mathbb{F}_{p^{n}}$, where $p\neq3$ is an odd prime and $n$ is a positive integer. In this paper, for all primes $p\neq3$, by investigating certain character sums with regard to elliptic curves and computing the number of solutions of a system of equations over $\mathbb{F}_{p^{n}}$, we determine explicitly the $(-1)$-differential spectrum of $f$ with a unified approach. We show that if $p^n \equiv 3 \pmod 4$, then $f$ is a differentially $(-1,3)$-uniform function except for $p^n\in\{7,19,23\}$ where $f$ is an APcN function, and if $p^n \equiv 1 \pmod 4$, the $(-1)$-differential uniformity of $f$ is equal to $4$. In addition, an upper bound of the $c$-differential uniformity of $f$ is also given.

Abstract:This paper extends our previous works <a class="link-https" data-arxiv-id="1802.07306" href="https://arxiv.org/abs/1802.07306">arXiv:1802.07306</a> [math.NT], <a class="link-https" data-arxiv-id="1808.02382" href="https://arxiv.org/abs/1808.02382">arXiv:1808.02382</a> [math.NT] on determining the spectrum, in the Berkovich sense, of ultrametric linear differential equations. Our previous works focused on equations with constant coefficients or over a field of formal power series. In this paper, we investigate the spectrum of $p$-adic differential equations at a generic point on a quasi-smooth curve. This analysis allows us to establish a significant connection between the spectrum and the spectral radii of convergence of a differential equation when considering the affine line. Furthermore, the spectrum offers a more detailed decomposition compared to Robba's decomposition based on spectral radii.

Abstract:We show that if we factor the long exact sequence in cohomology of a cofiber sequence of spectra into short exact sequences, then the $d_2$-differential in the Adams spectral sequence of any one term is related in a precise way to Yoneda composition with the 2-extension given by the complementary terms in the long exact sequence. We use this to give a complete analysis of the Adams spectral sequence for the connective image-of-$J$ spectrum, finishing a calculation that was begun by D. Davis in 1975.

Abstract:The differential (resp. boomerang) spectrum is an important parameter to estimate the resistance of cryptographic functions against some variants of differential (resp. boomerang) cryptanalysis. This paper aims to determine the differential and boomerang spectrums of some power permutations. In 1997, Helleseth and Sandberg proved that the differential uniformity of over , where p is an odd prime, is less than or equal to 4. In this paper, we first determine the differential spectrum of over with n odd and then compute its boomerang spectrum based on the differential spectrum. In addition, in 2018, Boura and Canteaut determined the boomerang spectrum of the inverse function over with n even. Following their work, we characterize the boomerang spectrum of the inverse function over for any odd prime p.

Abstract:The Hochschild-Kostant-Rosenberg theorem implies the existence of a spectral sequence computing the Hochschild homology of a variety in terms of the cohomology of differential forms. When the base field $k$ has characteristic $p>0$, we show that the differentials in this spectral sequence are zero before page $p$; when the variety admits a lift to $W_2(k)$, we give a formula for the differential on page $p$. The formula involves the Bockstein associated to the lift and a $p$th power operation for the Atiyah class.

Abstract:We show a few nontrivial extensions in the classical Adams spectral sequence. In particular, we compute that the 2-primary part of $\pi_{51}$ is $\mathbb{Z}/8\oplus\mathbb{Z}/8\oplus\mathbb{Z}/2$. This was the last unsolved 2-extension problem left by the recent works of Isaksen and the authors (\cite{Isa1}, \cite{IX}, \cite{WX1}) through the 61-stem. The proof of this result uses the $RP^\infty$ technique, which was introduced by the authors in \cite{WX1} to prove $\pi_{61}=0$. This paper advertises this method through examples that have simpler proofs than in \cite{WX1}.

Abstract:In this paper, we describe a novel way of identifying Adams spectral sequence $E_2$-terms in terms of homological algebra of quiver representations. Our method applies much more broadly than the standard techniques based on descent-flatness, bearing on a varied array of ring spectra. In the particular case of $p$-local integral homology, we are able to give a decomposition of the $E_2$-term, describing it completely in terms of the classical Adams spectral sequence. In the appendix, which can be read independently from the main body of the text, we develop functoriality of deformations of $\infty$-categories of the second author and Patchkoria.

Spectrum of p-adic linear differential equations II: Variation of the spectrum

Abstract:The primary objective of this paper is to generalize the results of [<a class="link-https" data-arxiv-id="2111.03548" href="https://arxiv.org/abs/2111.03548">arXiv:2111.03548</a>] to the case of quasi-smooth Berkovich curves by establishing a connection between the spectrum and the radii of convergence. To achieve this, we investigate the continuity and variation of the spectrum of a p-adic linear differential equation. Our findings demonstrate that the spectrum can be governed by any controlling graph of the radii of convergence. Furthermore, by analyzing the shape of the spectrum, we prove that approximating the connection enables an accurate estimation of spectral radii of convergence. As a result, we obtain a decomposition theorem with respect to the spectrum for differential equations defined over a quasi-smooth curve at a generic point x. This decomposition refines the one provided by the spectral radii of convergence. Previous works [Dwork, Robba (Trans. Am. Math. Soc. 231.1 (1-46)); <a class="link-https" data-arxiv-id="1308.0859" href="https://arxiv.org/abs/1308.0859">arXiv:1308.0859</a>] have shown that decomposition with respect to the spectral radii can be extended to a neighborhood of x. We prove that this can also hold for the decomposition with respect to the spectrum.

Abstract:Let p and q, where pq-qp=1 be the standard generators of the first Weyl algebra A(1) over a field of characteristic zero. Then the spectrum of the inner derivation ad(pq) on A(1) are exactly the set of integers. The algebra A(1) is a Z-graded algebra with each i-component being the i-eigenspace of ad(pq), where i is an element of Z is an element of. Assume that z and w are elements of A(1) satisfying zw-wz=1. The Dixmier Conjecture for A(1) says that they always generate A(1). We show that if z possesses no component belonging to the negative spectrum of ad(pq), then z and w generate A(1). We give some generalization of this result, and some other useful criterions for z and w to generate A(1). It is shown that if z is a sum of not more than 2 homogeneous elements of A(1) then z and w generate A(1), which generalizes a known result due to Bavula and Levandovskyy.
Stable Comodule Deformations and the Synthetic Adams-Novikov Spectral Sequence

Abstract:We study the Adams-Novikov spectral sequence in $\mathbb{F}_p$-synthetic spectra, computing the synthetic analogs of $\mathrm{BP}$ and its cooperations to identify the synthetic Adams-Novikov $\mathrm{E}_2$-page, computed in a range with a synthetic algebraic Novikov spectral sequence. We then identify deformations associated to the Cartan-Eilenberg and algebraic Novikov spectral sequences in terms of stable comodule categories, categorifying an algebraic Novikov spectral sequence result of Gheorghe-Wang-Xu. We then apply Isaksen-Wang-Xu methods in $\mathbb{F}_p$-synthetic spectra to deduce differentials in the synthetic Adams-Novikov for the sphere, producing almost entirely algebraic computations through the 45-stem.

Abstract:We find out some relations between the classical Adams spectral sequences for stunted real projective spectra, the Borel $C_2$-equivariant Adams spectral sequence for the 2-completed sphere, and the genuine $C_2$-equivariant Adams spectral sequence for the 2-completed sphere. This allows us to understand the genuine $C_2$-equivariant Adams spectral sequence from the Borel Adams spectral sequences. We show that the Borel Adams spectral sequence is computable as a classical Adams spectral sequence.

Abstract:Let $q$ be an odd prime power and let $\mathbb{F}_{q^2}$ be the finite field with $q^2$ elements. In this paper, we determine the differential spectrum of the power function $F(x)=x^{2q+1}$ over $\mathbb{F}_{q^2}$. When the characteristic of $\mathbb{F}_{q^2}$ is $3$, we also determine the value distribution of the Walsh spectrum of $F$, showing that it is $4$-valued, and use the obtained result to determine the weight distribution of a $4$-weight cyclic code.

Abstract:This book presents two important results in p-adic Hodge theory following the approach initiated by Faltings, namely (i) his main p-adic comparison theorem, and (ii) the Hodge-Tate spectral sequence. We establish for each of these results two versions, an absolute one and a relative one. While the absolute statements can reasonably be considered as well understood, particularly after their extension to rigid varieties by Scholze, Faltings' initial approach for the relative variants has remained much less studied. Although we follow the same strategy as that used by Faltings to establish his main p-adic comparison theorem, part of our proofs is based on new results. The relative Hodge-Tate spectral sequence is new in this approach.
