Abstract:A 3-connected dia-f-type metal-organic framework compound {[Ag(L)(3/2)H2PO4]}(n) (1) has been synthesized by self-assembly of 4.4'-H(2)bpz (L = 4,4'-H(2)bpz = 3,3',5,5'-tetramethyl-4,4'-bipyrazole) and Ag4P2O7 under hydrothermal conditions. It crystallizes in the tetragonal space group I4(1)/acd with a = 21.406(4) angstrom, b = 21.406(4) angstrom, c = 36.298(8) angstrom, Z = 32. X-ray single-crystal diffraction reveals that 1 has a three-dimensional framework with an unprecedented alternate left- and right-handed helices structure, featuring a non-uniform two-fold interpenetrated (4.14(2)) net. Photoluminescent investigation reveals that the title compound displays interesting emissions in a wide region, which shows that the title compound may be a good potential candidate as a photoelectric material. Abstract:One novel non-interpenetrated three-dimensional metal–organic framework (MOF) {[Cu4(μ3-OH)4(L)2]·DMF}n (1) (H2L=4,4′-(phenylazanediyl)dibenzoic acid) has been synthesized. The compound 1 contains positively charged 1-D copper hydroxy chains. The chains are interconnected by deprotonated L ligands into a 3D framework. The optical and magnetic properties have been investigated.

Abstract:Two isomorphous three-dimensional metal organic frameworks, [M(dtb)(4,4'-bipyridine)(1.5)(H2O)](n) (1, M = Ni; 2, M = Co) [dtb = 5,5'-dithiobis(2-nitrobenzoic acid), 4,4'-bipy=4,4'-bipyridine], have been synthesized by ligating metal ions with V-shaped H(2)dtb and linear 4,4'-bipy ligands, and they have been characterized structurally by single crystal X-ray diffraction studies and FT-IR and TGA analysis. Complexes 1 and 2 exhibit fascinating interweaved meso-helices and represent the first examples of metal organic frameworks with four spiral shafts in one helical chain, named a tetraflexural helix. The pitch of the single helical chain is up to 27.741 angstrom, which is out of the normal scope of helical pitch.

Abstract:Three novel microporous three-dimensional (3-D) metal-organic framework materials [ML](n) [M = Ni, Co, Cd; L = N,N'-bis(4-picolinoyl)hydrazine] were obtained from hydrothermal reactions. The organic ligand L was formed through the in situ ring-opening hydrolysis reaction of 2,5-bis(4-pyridyl)-1,3,4-oxadiazole with the assistance of metal ions. Single-crystal X-ray diffraction studies reveal that complexes 1-3 adopt 6-connected 3-D networks of distorted alpha-Po topology, which are built from non-interpenetrated (4,4) grids cross-linked by zigzag chains. These isomorphic complexes are all of high thermal stability, but some other physical properties are quite different because of their different metal centers. Antiferromagnetic exchange was observed between Ni(II) centers of complex 1, while ferromagnetic for Co(II) centers of complex 2. Complex 3 exhibits strong fluorescence emission.

Abstract:Three microporous coordination polymers, namely, [Co2L(DPE)]center dot 2DMF center dot 5H(2)O (1), [Zn2L(DPE)]center dot 2.5DMF center dot 2H(2)O (2) and [Cd(H2L)]center dot 3DMF center dot 3.5H(2)O (3), were solvothermally prepared in the presence of the flexible tetrahedral carboxylate ligand tetrakis[(4-carboxyphenyl)oxamethyl] methane acid (H4L) and a secondary bidentate linker (E)-1,2-di(pyridin-4-yl) ethane (DPE). Compounds 1 and 2 are isostructural and possess a 2-fold interpenetrating (4,4)-pts network. Compound 3 has a 3D structure with a uninodal 4-connected {4.8(5)} topology. All the three compounds consist of large solvent-accessible voids, but only compounds 1 and 2 possess permanent porosity as confirmed by N-2, CO2 and CH4 gas adsorption measurements. In addition, compounds 2 and 3 exhibited strong photoluminescent emissions at room temperature with a peak at 495 and 440 nm, respectively, owing to a ligand-centered excited state. The emission intensities of 2 varied upon contact with different solvents or analytes.

Abstract:Four new metal-organic frameworks {[Zn(L)]·2.6H2O}n (1), [Cd(L)(H2O)(DMA)]n (2), [Co3(L)2(HCOO)2(H2O)2]n (3) and {[Mn(L)(H2O)]·DMF}n (4) [H2L = pyridine-3, 5-bis(phenyl-4-carboxylic acid), DMA = N,N-dimethylacetamide, DMF = N,N-dimethylformamide] have been synthesized and characterized by single crystal and powder X-ray diffractions, IR and thermogravimetric analyses. 1 is a three-dimensional (3D) framework with {46·64} topology, while 2 is a 3D framework formed by parallel/parallel inclined interpenetration of two-dimensional (2D) networks with {63} topology. 3 processes a 3D framework structure with point symbol of {4·82}2{42·812·10}, and 4 shows bilayer structure with {43·63} topology, which is further assembled into a 3D supramolecular architecture by hydrogen bonding interactions. Gas adsorption property of 1, 2 and 4, photoluminescence of 1 and 2 as well as magnetic property of 4 were investigated.

Abstract:Metal-organic frameworks [(Fe2L3).(C4H10O)] 1, [(Fe2L3).(C5H5N)] (2), [(Fe2L3).(C6H6)] (3) and [(Fe2L3).(C4H8O)(4)] (4), achieved from triple metal helical iron complex Fe2L3, were assembled in the solvents of diethyl ether/DMF, pyridine, benzene and THF, respectively, where H2L is one of the simplest imine-based ligands {[(C6H4)(OH)]CH=N-N=CH[(OH)(C6H4)]}. Compounds 1, 2, 3 and 4 all crystallize in a centro-symmetric space group, consequently the molecules occur as a racemic mixture of Delta-Delta and Delta-Delta configuration enantiomers, wherein the equivalent fragments are related by the C-2 axis. The phenyl rings of the helical units contact the neighbors via pi-pi (face-to-face) and C-H...pi interactions to form two-dimensional channeled frameworks in which solvent molecules are absorbed in the channels in each of the structures. Thermogravimetric analyses reveal that the solvent molecules can be evacuated from the pores without loss of the framework periodicity. The crystal lattice is thermally stable up to 350 degreesC, and diethyl ether can be re-adsorbed by putting the heated material in diethyl ether solvent. It is also interesting to find that upon addition of other solvents such as n-hexane and cyclohexane, thermal gravimetric measurement and elemental microanalysis do not support the absorbance of these guests, indicating that the inclusion can be selectively re-absorbed. All the results indicate that although C-H...pi interactions have energies that are only in the range of 2-20 kJ mol(-1), these interactions are significant enough in combination that the orientation of molecules in the solid can be predicted with a reasonable degree of accuracy.

Abstract:Herein, by well-designing one bifunctional organic ligand as distinct bridging nodes, one new three-dimensional (3D) pillar-layer MOF, namely as Co3(IDCA)4 (IDCA = 1-H-indazole-5-carboxyle acid), has been synthesized and structurally characterized. The 3D Co3(IDCA)4 framework is composed of linear metal trimer and parazole-carboxyl group with one-dimensional (1D) tetragonal channel. Despite of absence of open metal sites as molecule binding positions, this 3D framework displays promising uptake capacity and separation ability for various hydrocarbon gas molecules.

Abstract:Three novel 3D metal-organic frameworks, [Co-2(butca)(o-bix)(2)center dot 8H(2)O](n) (1), [Co-2(butca)-(m-bix)(2)center dot 2H(2)O](n) (2) and [Co-2(butca)(p-bix)(2)center dot 3H(2)O](n) (3) (butca = 1,2,3,4-butane-tetracarboxylic acid; o-bix = 1,2-bis(imidazol-1-ylmethyl)-benzene; m-bix = 1,3-bis(imidazol-1-ylmethyl)-benzene; and p-bix - 1,4-bis(imidazol-1-ylmethyl)-benzene), have been successfully synthesized from a 2D layer compound [Co-2(butca)(H2O)(5)center dot 2H(2)O](n) (0) employing a three isomer pillars insertion reaction, and their structures were determined by single-crystal X-ray diffraction studies. Complexes 1 and 2 are isostructural. Interestingly, there exist metal-bix double-helical chains in these two 3D frameworks, which are arranged left- and right-handed alternately. Different from 1 and 2 which have only one coordination model, Co atoms in 3 have two types of different coordination enviroments. The Co1 ions are exclusively bridged by cis-bix ligands to give one 26-number ring through spontaneous resolution. At the same time, the Co2 ions are wholely connected with tran-bix ligands to form a 1-D zigzag chain. Moreover, the relationship between a 2D layer structure and 3D metal-organic frameworks based on the pillared-layer motifs is discussed. This work has significant potential for the study of crystal engineering of transition metal coordination networks.

Abstract:Four new metal-organic frameworks have been synthesized under hydrothermal conditions by the self-assembly of a N-centered multidentate bifunctional ligand (H2L: 4,4'-((4-(pyridin-4-yl)phenyl)azanediyl)dibenzoic acid) with different N-containing heterocyclic coligands (BIMB = 4,4'-bis((imidazol-1-yl)methyl)biphenyl, BPY = 4,4'-bipyridine, BIP = 1,4-bis(imidazol-1-yl)phenyl) and transition metal salts (Co(NO3)(2)center dot 6H(2)O, Zn(NO3)2 center dot 6H(2)O). They are [Co(L)(BIMB)(0.5)(H2O)]center dot 2DMF (1), [Co(L)(BPY)(0.5)(H2O)(2)]center dot 3DMF center dot 2H(2)O (2), [Zn-2(L)(2)]center dot 4DMF center dot 3H(2)O (3), and [Zn-2(L)(2)(BIP)]center dot 2DMF center dot 2H(2)O (4). Compound 1 is an infrequent 3,4-connected self-penetration three-dimensional (3D) architecture. Compound 2 has been classified as a trinodal (3,4,4)-connected 3D sqc69 framework. Compound 3 displays a 2-fold interpenetrating 3D net based on the [Zn-2(CO2)(4)] units which are connected by L2- ligands. For compound 4, the larger potential voids lead to a 4-fold interpenetration, which can be classified as type IIIa. In addition, their thermal stability, the adsorption isotherms, and optical properties have been studied in detail.

Abstract:A novel 3d-3d heterometallic metal-organic framework, [Zn-2(ox)(3)] [{Cu-I(4,4-bipy)}(2)] center dot C2H6O2 (ox = oxalate, 4,4-bipy = 4,4-bipyridine), 1 has been synthesized by using two bidentate ligands under hydrothermal condition. The Cu(II) ion in the starting materials was reduced to Cu(I) along with the partial oxidation of the ethylene alcohol molecules to the oxalate, leading to the formation of 1. Compound 1 is a rare three-dimensional framework constructed by intercalation of the metal oxalate [Zn-2(ox)(3)](n)(2-) honeycomb sheets with the [{Cu-I(4,4-bipy)}(2)](n)(2+) 1-D coordination polymer. Abstract:The solvothermal reaction of two new neutral tetradentate ligands with different bivalent metal salts gave seven metal-organic frameworks (MOFs): [Co-2(L1) (trans-chdc)(2)]center dot 5H(2)O (1), [Zn-2(L1)(trans-chdc)(NO2)(2)]center dot DMF (2), [Cd-2(L1)(trans-chdc)(2)]center dot 4H(2)O (3), [Zn-2(L1)(1,4-bdc)(2)]center dot(H2O)(3) (4), [Cd-2(L1)(1,4-bdc)(2)]center dot DMF center dot(solvent)(x) (5), [Co(L2) (trans-chdc)(H2O)]center dot 1.5H(2)O (6), [Co(L2) (1,4-bdc) (H2O)]center dot 2H(2)O (7), (L1 = 1,1'-oxybis[3,5-diimidazole]-benzene, L2 = 1,1'-oxybis[3,5-dipyridine]-benzene, trans-chdc = trans-1,4-cyclohexanedicarboxylic acid, 1,4-bdc = 1,4-benzenedicarboxylate). These MOFs were prepared to examine the effects of the core metal ion or organic ligand on the topology and interpenetration form. The results show that the imidazole ligand can rotate easily to coordinate to metal ions, while pyridine ligand exhibits the weaker coordinative abilities, which may influence the self-assembly. Compounds 1, 3, and 5 are three-dimensional (3D) frameworks with 2-fold interpenetrated forms, whereas complex 4 shows a 3-fold interpenetrated structure. Interestingly, compound 2 exhibits a 4-fold interpenetration. Compound 6 features a two-dimensional polymeric layer structure which exhibits a rare 2-fold interpenetrating 3D hms array if H-bonds are taken into account. For compound 7, the dinuclear cobalt secondary building unit (SBU) assembles with mixed ligands L2 and 1,4-bdc to construct a 3D alpha-Po structure.

Abstract:The hydrothermal reactions of Zn(ClO4)(2).6H(2)O/ Cu(NO3)(2).6H(2)O with 5-(4-pyridyl)tetrazole in an ethanol/ water or ethanol/water/pyridine medium yield one 2D and one 3D metal-organic coordination framework [Zn-2(OH)(4-Ptz)(3)] (1) and [Cu(4.ptz).0.5(py)] (3) [4-ptz = 5-(4-pyridyl)tetrazolate, py = pyridine], respectively. Complex 1 possesses two identical and independent rectangular grid sheets with twofold parallel interpenetration, in which the four-connected nodes of the net are provided by Zn-2(OH) units connected to one another through 4-ptz and (4-PtZ)(2) bridges. These composite sheets are stacked one on top of another by hydrogen-bonding interactions to afford a 3D structure. There are many structural similarities between complex 1 and the recently reported 2D layered network [Zn(OH)(4-ptz)(H2O)] (2), in particular the components of the network, the coordination mode of the 4-ptz ligand and the in situ formation of hydroxy groups. Complex 2 can be synthesized by the hydrothermal reaction of Zn(ClO4)(2).6H(2)O and 5-(4-pyridyl)tetrazole in an ethanol/water/pyridine medium. The structural characterization of complex 3 shows a porous structure that contains the guest pyridine molecules. Abstract:Two new porous metal-organic frameworks with the formulas [Co(btdc)(bpp)(H2O)(0.5)]center dot 8H(2)O (1) and Co-2(btdc)(2)(bpe)(2)center dot 19H(2)O (2) (H(2)btdc = 2,2'-bithiophene-5,5'-dicarboxylic acid, bpp = 1,3-di(4-pyridyl) propane, bpe = 1,2-bis(4-pyridinyl)ethane) have been synthesized under solvothermal conditions and characterized by single crystal X-ray diffraction analysis and powder X-ray diffraction, elemental analysis, IR, and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). 1 features a three-dimensional (3D) self-interpenetrating framework which results from three-fold interpenetrating diamond network linked by the bpp ligands. 2 exhibits a three-dimensional two-fold interpenetrating pillar-layered framework with alpha-Po topology. The magnetic study of 1 shows that there exist antiferromagnetic interactions between the Co(II) centres.

Abstract:The mesoporous framework [Cu(3)(L)(H(2)O)(3)]·(DMF)(35)·(H(2)O)(35) (NOTT-119) shows on desolvation a BET surface area of 4118(200) m(2) g(-1), a pore volume of 2.35 cm(3) g(-1), a total H(2) uptake of 101 mg g(-1) at 60 bar, 77 K and a total CH(4) uptake of 327 mg g(-1) at 80 bar, 298 K.

Abstract:A new 3D MOF, [Zn-5(mu(3)-O)(2)(bpdc)(4)(DMF)(2)(EtOH)(2)]center dot 3(DMF)center dot 3(EtOH)center dot 5(H2O) (1) (bpdc = 4,4'-biphenyldicarboxylate, DMF = N,N-dimethylformamide and EtOH = ethanol), has been synthesized under mild conditions. X-ray crystallography reveals that polymer 1 consists of a 3D framework with an expanded diamondoid topology constructed from double 4-connected pentanuclear SBUs linked by rigid bpdc ligands. For an unusual pentanuclear framework, polymer 1 shows the favorable CH3OH adsorption behavior and good optoelectronic effect, which will facilitate the exploration of new types of multifunctional materials.
