Abstract:Summary form only given. A passively mode locked fiber soliton laser was successfully setup. After adjusting the polarization controllers (PC) carefully, bound soliton pulses with FWHM width of 326 fs and fixed separation of 938 fs were achieved with existence of a strong CW component at the center of the soliton spectrum. Hysteresis of bound soliton operation was also observed. Only under lower pump power, can the number of bound soliton pairs be controlled, and they are destroyed one pair by one pair when pump power is decreased. But multi-bound soliton operation is formed suddenly while increasing pump power, because energy competition exists with CW. We found that the soliton pulse width increased with the transmission fiber length linearly, and the separation between bound solitons increased linearly after 5 m.

Abstract:A passively mode-locked all-fiber ring soliton laser is constructed based on all-solid Yb-doped photonic bandgap fibers (AS-Yb-PBGF),which provide the laser gain and anomalous dispersion simultaneously.Without using any bulk dispersion compensators,the laser cavity is simple,compact,environmentally stable,and easy to achieve all-fiber configuration.By means of the nonlinear Schr(?)dinger equation,the dynamics of single-soliton operation in the laser is numerically simulated and the optimal parameter is obtained with the split-step Fourier method.In the calculation,when the length of the AS-Yb-PBGF was chosen as 0.4 m and the length of single mode fiber (SMF) as 0.4 m,the single-soliton operation with the pulse duration of 244 fs,the pulse energy up to 14 pJ, in which the time-bandwidth product is 0.32 as nearly the transform-limited pulse,has been shown.

Abstract:Bound solitons with a soliton pulse width of 326 fs and a pulse separation of 938 fs are obtained in a passively mode locked fiber laser. Its creation and annihilation mechanism is experimentally investigated. Due to the existence of a strong cw laser in the cavity, the generation of bound solitons is found to be different from that of the nonbound normal solitons. Abstract:10 GHz repetition rate soliton-like pulses with duration of 29.85 ps have been obtained in an actively mode-locked fiber ring laser. 20 GHz rational harmonic mode-locked soliton-like pulses were also observed. A piezoelectric transducer driven cavity length feedback system was employed to realize the long-term stability of the laser source.

Abstract:The bound solitons in a passively mode-locked fibre ring laser are observed and their formation mechanism is summarized in this paper. In order to obtain stable bound solitons, a strong CW laser field at the centre of the soliton spectral is necessary to suppress and synchronize the random soliton phase variations.

Abstract:We report an all-fiber dissipative soliton passively mode-locked Er-doped fiber laser. By adjusting the pump power and the polarization states,we can obtain the two-soliton and three-soliton bound state dissipative solitons further. Utilizing anomalous dispersion fiber to compress the pulse duration of wide-bandwidth two-soliton bound dissipative solitons,compressed pulse width is fitted to 96 fs by hyperbolic secant, and the calculated time-bandwidth product is 0. 324, indicating the near transform-limited pulse. The broadband spectrum is obtained thanks to the dispersion management in the cavity and high modulation depth (20%) of carbon nanotube(CNT) saturable absorber. On this basis,the dissipative soliton with the spectral width of 35 nm (center wavelength is 1. 57 mu m) is obtained, which is also the widest spectrum based on the dissipative soliton produced by CNT.

Abstract:An analysis was made on a novel fiber-ring soliton laser of active-passive mode-locking by solving the path-averaged nonlinear Schrodinger's equation (NLSE), and the conditions under which the laser will run stably were then obtained. The split-step algorithm was used for numerical integrating the NLSE, and a transform-limited pulse-train was obtained whose pulse-width is of 985fs, repetition rate of 10GHz, and spectrum-width of 323GHz when the working wavelength is of 1.55 micron.

Abstract:In this paper a fiber ring soliton laser is analysed by solving the path-averaged NLSE. The conditions under which the laser would run stablely are given. We have also used the split-step algorithm for numerically integrating NLSE (1-4) and acquired a 985 fs transform-limited pulse train at a repetition rate of 10 GHz when λ= 1.55 μm.

Abstract:We report on generation of fundamental soliton using a section of photonic crystal fibers (PCFs) with high nonlinearity and anomalous dispersion. 10 GHz output pulses with 6.108 mW average power and duration of less than 10 ps have been generated from an actively mode-locking fiber ring laser based on PCFs. The spectral of output pulses can be tunable from 1532 nm to 1565 nm. According to the estimated peak power of 6.108×10-2 W for 10 ps pulse, 1.026 order soliton occurred.

Abstract:We investigate on bound-state mode-locking in the close-to-zero dispersion regime of an Er-fiber laser. A two-soliton bound state with 82 fs pulse duration and 0.58 ps pulse separation is achieved. Compound 2+1 type bound state solitons with ~100 fs pulse duration has also been observed. Both the double-pulse and the 2+1 type bound states could experience period-doubling bifurcations and exhibit the pumping hysteresis characteristics as the single pulse. To the best of our knowledge, this work provides the first observation of sub-100 fs bound solitons in a fiber laser. Such ultra-short bound state solitons show potential applications of multilevel coding unit for high-capacity telecommunication systems.

Abstract:We report on the experimental observation of narrow-linewidth double-peak dissipative solitons in a figure-eight Yb-doped passively mode-locked fiber laser in the large net normal cavity dispersion regime. Without any physical bandpass filters in the cavity, stable mode-locking pulses with a duration of 416 ps and a 3 dB bandwidth of 0.3 nm can be directly generated from the laser cavity. The edge-to-edge bandwidth of the spectrum is about 5 nm. The repetition rate of the dissipative solitons is 3.9 MHz. With the increase of pump power, the central wavelength of the dissipative solitons shifts toward a short wavelength and edge-to-edge spectral widths are widened gradually. These phenomena are theoretically explained.

Abstract:We propose and experimentally demonstrate a novel and simple tunable passively mode-locked fiber ring laser. A polarization-dependent Mach-Zehnder amplitude modulator is used to replace the polarizer inside the cavity. When the modulator is biased at different voltages and without any rf input signal, we obtain a stable soliton pulse train with repetition rates from 50 to 300 GHz.

Abstract:Bound soliton (BS) states, as an interesting physical phenomenon operating at multi-pulse mode, are intensively investigated both theoretically and experimentally. However, the BSs have rarely reported in bidirectional fiber ring lasers. Here, we demonstrated a bidirectional passively mode-locked all-fiber ring laser with BSs output at 1.55 μm. The laser is mode-locked by a single-wall carbon nanotube absorber. Two synchronous single-soliton pulses in clockwise and counter-clockwise directions were delivered simultaneously from the laser, which could be transferred to the two-soliton bound states. The bidirectional operations showed the same BS states with phase differences of -π∕2, 0, and π.

Abstract:We report on multiple solitons generation in an all-normal-dispersion (ANDi) passively mode-locked Yb-doped fiber ring laser with a cascaded long-period fiber grating as a spectral filter. Several different characteristic pulse modes have been experimental observed from the same ring laser by adjusting the polarization controllers, including uniform multiple solitons and nonuniform pulse-trains. In the uniform multiple solitons, the separation between the adjacent solitons is independent of the number of solitons, which is fixed at 33.6 ns. In the nonuniform pulse-train, multiple solitons up to 8 have been observed coexisting in the cavity, and the time distribution of the solitons is fixed at 21.1 ns, 12.5 ns and 8.6 ns, respectively. The observed results of multiple solitons output will not only have the potential applications in molecular detection, remote sensing and laser communication, but also be helpful to understand the mechanism of multi-solitons generation in the fiber laser system.

Abstract:Ultra-short soliton pulses of 72 fs without any pedestal and CW components are observed from Figure-8 passively mode-locked fiber laser, which is incorporated with a dispersion-imbalanced nonlinear optical loop mirror (DI-NOLM). Bound states of asymmetrical solitons with pulse width of 103 fs and separation of 585.5 fs are also observed. The bound soliton separation and pulsewidth remain unchanged even after passing through 1.2 km single mode fiber (SMF) transmission.

Abstract:A new all-fiber structured saturable absorber, consisting of graded index multimode fiber-no-core fiber-graded index multimode fiber (GIMF–NCF–GIMF), in a passively mode-locked erbium-doped fiber laser is proposed and demonstrated. The conventional solitons with a center wavelength of 1575.5 nm, a pulse width of 707 fs, and a signal-to-noise ratio of 66 dB are generated at the repetition frequency of 18.919 MHz. The different lengths of each part of the saturable absorber (SA) can usually allow the fiber laser system to reach mode-locking, which shows that the length limits on this SA can not be quite as serious. Meanwhile, by only adjusting the polarization controller, tightly bound solitons and loosely bound solitons can be readily generated. The pulse trains of tightly bound solitons exhibit a separation of 1.52 ps, a pulse width of ∼850 fs, and centered at 1573 nm, whereas the pulse separation of loose bound solitons are from 23 ps to 58 ps, which shows wide variations of the time dispersion. More importantly, it is found that tightly bound solitons and loosely bound solitons can exist simultaneously for higher-order solitons, for the first time to the best of our knowledge. Such an SA is easy to fabricate, highly stable and of low cost, and has high potential in ultrafast photonics.

Abstract:A passively mode-locked soliton fiber laser assisted with an interference filter is proposed and experimentally demonstrated. Self-started mode-locked soliton generation is based on the nonlinear polarization evolution (NPE). Of which, a polarization maintaining photonics crystal fiber (PM-PCF) is incorporated as an interference filter with tunable transmission bandwidth by controlling length of PM-PCF. In the experiment, we achieve a clean spectrum of dissipative soliton (DS) without sidebands, and a corresponding repetition rate of 6.554 MHz. Further adjusting the intracavity polarization with two polarization controllers (PCs) can transform the conventional DS to a vector DS with a rectangular spectrum. It is seen that the soliton operation regime can be dynamically managed by controlling the intracavity polarizations and net birefringence.
