Abstract:The space-time focusing of a (continuous) succession of localized X-shaped pulses is obtained by suitably integrating over their speed, i.e., over their axicon angle, thus generalizing a previous (discrete) approach. First, new Superluminal wave pulses are constructed, and then tailored in such a wave to get them temporally focused at a chosen spatial point, where the wavefield can reach for a short time very high intensities. Results of this kind may find applications in many fields, besides electromagnetism and optics, including acoustics, gravitation, and elementary particle physics. Abstract:We prove a Nekhoroshev type long time stability result for the following nonlinear Schrödinger (NLS) equations on the d -dimensional torus iut=−△u+V∗u+∂F(|u|2)∂u ̄(u,u ̄),x∈Td,t∈R, where V is a smooth convolution potential, F(z) is a real-valued polynomial function in z satisfying F(0)=F′(0)=0 . More precisely, it is proved that in modified Sobolev space (see ( Equation 2 (2) hp(Td):={u(x)=∑j∈Zdqjeij⋅x⏐‖u‖hp(Td)2=‖q‖hp2:=∑j∈Zd⌊j⌋2p|qj|2<∞}, (2) )) if the norm of initial datum is smaller than ε(0<ε≪1) , then the corresponding solution is bounded by 2ε over time-intervals of length ee1ε . The result generalizes the 1-dimensional case in L. Biasco, J.E. Massetti, M. Procesi. [An abstract Birkhoff normal form theorem and exponential type stability of the 1d NLS. Abstract:In this paper, we study the local well-posedness of nonlinear Schrödinger equations on tori $\mathbb{T}^{d}$ at the critical regularity. We focus on cases where the nonlinearity $|u|^{a}u$ is non-algebraic with small $a>0$. We prove the local well-posedness for a wide range covering the mass-supercritical regime. Moreover, we supplementarily investigate the regularity of the solution map. In pursuit of lowering $a$, we prove a bilinear estimate for the Schrödinger operator on tori $\mathbb{T}^{d}$, which enhances previously known multilinear estimates. We design a function space adapted to the new bilinear estimate and a package of Strichartz estimates, which is not based on conventional atomic spaces.

Abstract:We consider nonlinear Schrödinger equations on flat tori satisfying a simple and explicit Diophantine non-degeneracy condition. Provided that the nonlinearity contains a cubic term, we prove the almost global existence and stability of most of the small solutions in high regularity Sobolev spaces. To this end, we develop a normal form approach designed to handle general resonant Hamiltonian partial differential equations for which it is possible to modulate the frequencies by using the initial data.

Abstract:This paper is concerned with the fractional nonlinear Schrödinger equation with periodic boundary conditions (0.1) iut+−Δs0u+−Δr0f(|u|2)u=0,x∈T≔R/2πZ, where s0∈(1/2,1) , r0∈[0,s0−1/2] and f is a real analytic function in some neighborhood of the origin in C . The above equation (0.1) is reversible with respect to the involution G:(u,ū)↦(ū,u) . By the KAM (Kolmogorov–Arnold–Moser) theorem for an infinite dimensional reversible system with unbounded perturbation, we obtain that there exists Cantor families of quasi-periodic solutions of small amplitude to equation (0.1).

Abstract:We consider the nonlinear Dirac equation The potential function V satisfies the conditions that the essential spectrum of the Dirac operator is and this Dirac operator has infinitely many eigenvalues in (−1, 1) accumulating at 1. This potential function V may change sign in ℝ3 and contains the classical Coulomb potential V (x) = −γ/|x| with γ > 0 as a special case. The nonlinearity F satisfies the resonance-type condition lim. Under some additional conditions on V and F, we prove that this equation has infinitely many solutions.

Abstract:We study the stability properties of periodic solutions to the Nonlinear Schr\"odinger (NLS) equation with a periodic potential. We exploit the symmetries of the problem, in particular the Hamiltonian structure and the $\U(1)$ symmetry. We develop a simple sufficient criterion that guarantees the existence of a modulational instability spectrum along the imaginary axis. In the case of small amplitude solutions that bifurcate from the band edges of the linear problem this criterion becomes especially simple. We find that the small amplitude solutions corresponding to the band edges alternate stability, with the first band edge being modulationally unstable in the focusing case, the second band edge being modulationally unstable in the defocusing case, and so on. This small amplitude result has a nice physical interpretation in terms of the effective mass of a particle in the periodic potential. We also consider, in somewhat less detail, some sideband instabilities in the small amplitude limit. We find that, depending on the Krein signature of the collision, these can be of one of two types. Finally we illustrate this with some exact calculations in the case where $V(x)$ is an elliptic function, where all of the relevant calculations can be done explicitly.

Abstract:We study the energy cascade problematic for some nonlinear Schrödinger equations on the torus $\T^2$ in terms of the growth of Sobolev norms. We define the notion of long-time strong instability and establish its connection to the existence of unbounded Sobolev orbits. This connection is then explored for a family of cubic Schrödinger nonlinearities that are equal or closely related to the standard polynomial one $|u|^2u$. Most notably, we prove the existence of unbounded Sobolev orbits for a family of Hamiltonian cubic nonlinearities that includes the resonant cubic NLS equation (a.k.a. the first Birkhoff normal form).
