Efficacy assessment of low-molecular-weight heparin injected subcutaneously in the treatment of patients with mild-to-moderate active ulcerative colitis

Abstract:Objective To assess the efficacy of low-molecular-weight-heparin( LMWH) injected subcutaneously in the adjuvant treatment of patients with mild-to-moderate active ulcerative colitis( UC).Methods 48 patients diagnosed with mild-to-moderate active UC were assigned into two groups( 24 ones in each group) randomly,and were treated with5-aminosalicylic acid and 5-aminosalicylic acid in combination with low-molecular-weight heparin calcium injected subcutaneously,respectively.Clinical activity index( CAI),markers of the inflammation( CRP,ESR,FIB),coagulation( PT,APTT,TT,D-dimer and platelet count) and endoscopic index( EI) were examined before and after the treatment,and the improvement of treatment was compared.Results The difference was significant between two groups after the treatment with respect to CRP and D-dimer( P < 0.05),rather than CAI,EI and other markers( P > 0.05).Conclusion LMWH injected subcutaneously improves some markers of inflammation and coagulation in patients with mild-to-moderate active UC,but these patients do not benefit from it in terms of clinical symptoms and endoscopic findings.
