Abstract:This paper is aimed to present our study results on theover-standard problem of Mn~(2+) which has to be discharged in the sewage in a coalmine in Yunnan for the time being. As the result of our study, we have worked out a new type of composite materials used of removing Mn~(2+) . The material under way is made of Nano-se-olite and diatomite reasonably mixed with complex flocculant in it in the form of porous composites. In our study, we have done Mn~(2+) -re-moving tests with the Mn~(2+) contained in the black and rufous sewage of the mine. Besides Mn~(2+), the sewage also contains much of suspended solids in the coal-mining left-over gangue. Experimental testing helps to discover the concentration of Mn~(2+)is 5.32 mg/L, in the black sewage of the coal mine whereas in the rufous sewage, the concontration of Mn~(2+)is 42.4 mg/L. Furthermore, the efficiency of removing Mn~(2+)from the black sewage can be expected to reach 70%,with the pH of effluent being 7.9, while with the rufous sewage, the removing efficiency can be as high as 91.0% with the pH of effluent going up to 7.1. At the same time, we have also studied the intluentied factors on the removing efficiency, such as Fe~(3+) , SS. In the condition with the presence of Fe~(3+)in the sewage along with the Mn~(2+), the pH can be reduced. In addition, the Fe~(3+) in the sewage has been found to be a competitive adsorbent with Mn~(2+) , which may have adverse effect on the removing efficiency of Mn~(2+)with the com-pusite material. Moreover, when there exists SS in the coalmine sewage, its presence proves to have no obvious influence on the removing of Mn~(2+) with the use of the composite material we have proposed.
