Abstract:Cuprous oxide (Cu 2 O) in high yield with controlled shape and size was synthesized via a solution-phase route by reducing cupric sulphate with D-glucose.The solution pH shows strong effects on the size and morphology of the products.The products were characterized by X-ray power diffraction (XRD) and Scanning electron microscope (SEM).The infrared emissivity of Cu 2 O was tested by Far infrared emissivity measurer S302.The possible crystal growth processes have been proposed.

Abstract:Herein we report a simple electrochemical route for the controlled synthesis of a Cu2O microcrystal from perfect octahedra to monodisperse colloid spheres via control of the electrodeposition potential without the introduction of any template or surfactant. Perfect Cu2O octahedra and monodisperse colloid spheres have been obtained in high yield (approximately 100%).

Abstract:Porous cuprous oxide octahedra with a mean diameter of 1 mu m have been successfully prepared with high yield via a hydrothermal reduction process at a low temperature. The growth mechanism and the influences of the poly(vinylpyrrolidone) (PVP) and citric acid have been discussed. And then, the samples were used as photocatalytic in the degradation of methyl red (MR). Thanks to the 3D architecture of the product, the photocatalytic performance has been significantly improved. We believe that the present work will open up to systematically explore ways to fabricate porous nanostructures and thus find use in a variety of applications. (C) 2008 Elsevier B.V. Abstract:Both the cubic single crystals and the spherical polycrystals of cuprous oxides (Cu2O) were prepared by the reduction of aqueous CuSO4, with hydrazine as a reductant in the presence of different organic molecule additives, such as hexadecyltrimethyl ammonium bromide (CTAB), glucose (C6H12O6), ethylene glycol (C2H6O2), and glycerol (C3H8O3), at room temperature. It was found that the organic additives added had an important influence on the formation mechanism of the Cu2O particles and could lead to different microstructures of the resultant Cu2O crystallites. The addition of CTAB to the reaction solution could induce the formation of cubic Cu2O single crystals, while glucose resulted in the formation of spherical polycrystals. All the samples were characterized by X-ray powder diffraction and transmission electron microscope (TEM). TEM observations indicated that the nanosized primary particles formed immediately after the reactants were mixed, followed by the competition between diffusion of the reactive constituents and aggregation of the nanosized primary particles. In the presence of CTAB, the diffusion of the reactants was a major factor contributing to the single crystal morphology of the Cu2O products, while the aggregation of the primary nano-particles into polycrystallites prevailed when glucose existed in the reaction system.

Abstract:Perfect mixed 26-facet and 18-facet polyhedra of Cu2O microcrystals were successfully Synthesized by a hydrothermal process with use of stearic acid as structure-directing agent. Cu2O octahedra and cubes were also prepared Under hydrothermal conditions. The obtained microstructures were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), high-resolution TEM (HRTEM), and UV-vis spectrum. The adsorption and photocatalytic activity of as-prepared 26-facet and 18-facet Cu2O polyhedra I'm decomposition of methyl orange were investigated and compared to that of octahedra and Cubes. The results show that mixed 26-facet and 18-facet polyhedra with dominant {110} facets have a higher adsorption and photocatalytic activity than Cu2O octahedra with dominant {111} surfaces and cubes with {100} surfaces. A higher surface energy and a greater density of the "Cu" dangling bonds on {110} facets of 26-facet and 18-facet polyhedra may be ascribed to its higher catalytic activity. Moreover, as compared with octahedra and Cubes, mixed 26-facet and 18-facet polyhedra have more edges and corners, which Could improve photocatalytic activity. This simple one-pot synthetic route could provide a good starting point for the research of morphology constructions and shape-dependent catalytic properties of other materials.

Abstract:Cuprous oxide microspheres are widely used as catalysis, coatings, disinfection and anodic materials due to their unique assemble structures and their perfect dispersion and fluid properties.Cuprous oxide microspheres are usually fabricated by the thermal oxidation and the chemical vapor deposition which need high temperature or by the solution reduction which use the expensive or toxic materials as formaldehyde, sodium hypophosphite or KBH4 as the reducing agents.Herein a moderate method was suggested to synthesis cuprous oxide microspheres via the hexadecyltrimethyl ammonium bromide (HTAB)-assisted glucose reduction approach, using CuSO4 as the raw material.Dispersive uniform cuprous oxide microspheres (800-900nm ) composed of crystalline nano-particles (8.5-13 nm ) were synthesized by mixing CuSO4 and glucose solutions in the presence of HTAB at room temperature followed by aging of the mixture at 70-80ºC for 0.5 h (Fig. 1a).The presence of HTAB promoted t h e f o r m a t i o n o f cuprous oxide nanoparticles as well as the subsequently a s s e m b l y o f t h e nano-particles to the cuprous oxide m i c r o s p h e r e s (Fig. 1b).

Abstract:A novel type of high symmetric 26-facet polyhedral microcrystals of Cu2O with well-developed {100}, {110}, {111} crystallographic faces are successfully synthesized in a properly selected reaction medium. These polyhedra exhibit a core-shell structure. An aqueous solution containing CuCl2 center dot 2H(2)O, sodium citrate (C6H5Na3O7 center dot 2H(2)O) complexing agent, glucose reductant, sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS) surfactant, NaOH, and ethylene glycol (EG) constitutes the functional medium. By altering the EG to the water volume ratio, polyhedral, quasi-cubic, octahedral microcrystals are obtained directly. SDS, EG and C6H5Na3O7 center dot 2H(2)O have been confirmed to be the necessary additives to the development of different crystallographic planes. A possible growth mechanism involving aggregation of seed particles, oriented attachment, ripening process and surface reconstruction is proposed on the grounds of time-dependent experiments. The photocatalytic properties of the polyhedral microcrystals are also investigated.

Abstract:Epitaxial cuprous oxide, Cu2O, nanocrystals are deposited electrochemically onto n-InP(001). The lattice of the Cu2O is rotated 45° around the common [001] axis normal to the substrate plane. The shape of the Cu2O nanocrystals depends on the pH of the solution. Nanopyramids form at pH 9, and nanocubes form at pH 12.

Abstract:Multiferrocenyl and multiadamantyl cuboctahedron nanospheres were synthesized via rapid self-assembly reactions of twelve 90 degrees Pd-II-containing compounds and twenty-four 120 degrees organic bidentate N-ligands in acetone solution. The selected self-assembly reaction and corresponding solvent were demonstrated to be effective and simple in the preparation of self-assembled nanospheres. DOSY NMR spectroscopy, AFM images and theoretical calculations confirmed the formation of cuboctahedron complexes with the size of 4-5 nm. Multifunctional molecular self-assembly processes offer considerable synthetic advantages including significantly fewer steps, fast and facile formation of final desirable products, and will lead to a new multifunctionality platform for cuboctahedron complexes.

A novel wet-chemical method of preparing highly monodispersed Cu2O nanoparticles

Abstract:Highly monodispersed cuprous oxide (Cu2O) nanoparticles, which have a potential application in printed electronics, have been successfully synthesized by a simple wet-chemical route and have been characterized by XRD, HRTEM, UV–vis, and FTIR. The results have shown that the particle size can be controlled by changing the concentration of the stabilizing molecule—oleic acid. Cu2O nanoparticles are spherically shaped with a diameter of about 2nm and form a face-centered cubic (FCC) crystal structure when the molar ratio of oleic acid to copper precursor is 2. It can be concluded that the Cu2O nanoparticles are capped with oleic acid and polyethylene glycol monododecyl ether. The nano-agglomeration can be filtrated and easily re-dispersed in apolar solvent without ultrasonic method or vigorous stirring.

Abstract:Herein we report a facile anion-aided hydrothermal route for the controllable synthesis of CuO assemblies from chrysanthemum-like structures to highly dispersed microspheres in a high morphological yield ( similar to 100%). The products were characterized by X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, and thermogravimetric analysis. The formation mechanism was related to the classical anion-additive selective adsorption upon particles growth and the self-assembly process of building units assisted by cetyltrimethylammonium bromide. Abstract:PbMoO4 nanoparticles and pagodalike microcrystals have been controllably prepared by a simple sonochemical method without any surfactants. The as-prepared powders were characterized by X-ray powder diffraction (XRD) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). The results showed that the pH played a crucial role on the controllable synthesis of PbMoO4. Pagoda like microcrystals could be formed on acid condition, and nanocrystals were obtained in the case of pH 7 and pH 14. The synthesis mechanism was also discussed. Abstract:We report herein the size-controlled preparation of monodispersed cuprous oxide octahedron nanocrystals smaller than 100 nm. The method is based on the reduction of copper nitrate in Triton X-100 water-in-oil (w/o) microemulsions by gamma-irradiation. The average edge length of the octahedron-shaped nanocrystals varies from 45 to 95 nm as a function of the dose rate. The quantum confinement effect was illustrated by the blueshift in the optical absorption. In addition, the growth process was also traced by absorption spectra.

Abstract:Copper ferrite nanoparticles have catalytic activity for hydrogen peroxide, which can be used in many fields. This characteristic comes from the physical properties of matters at nanometer scale. Thus, controlling the size and aggregation of nanoparticles during the synthesis is one of the ways to obtain target performance. In this article, a kind of ultra-small nano particle CuFe$_2$O$_4$ with uniform morphology was prepared by solvothermal synthesis. The effects of solvent, reactant molar ratio, reaction temperature, surfactant and reaction time on the yield of CuFe$_2$O$_4$, size and morphology of nano particles were investigated under different synthesis conditions. XRD, TEM, EDS were used to analysis the materials, and the physical properties of the products were analyzed. An optimized solvothermal synthesis scheme was proposed.
Recent Developments In Shape-Controlled Synthesis Of Silver Nanocrystals

Abstract:This feature article introduces our recent work on understanding the roles played by citrate and poly(vinyl pyrrolidone) (PVP) as capping agents in seed-mediated syntheses of Ag nanocrystals with controlled shapes. We have demonstrated that citrate and PVP selectively bind to Ag(111) and Ag(100) surfaces, respectively, and thus favor the formation of Ag nanocrystals enclosed preferentially by {111} or {100} facets. In addition, we have quantified the coverage density of PVP adsorbed on the surface of Ag nanocubes. On the basis of the mechanistic understanding, a series of Ag nanocrystals with controlled shapes and sizes have been successfully synthesized by using different combinations of seeds and capping agents: single-crystal spherical/cubic seeds with citrate for cuboctahedrons and octahedrons or with PVP for cubes and bars and plate-like seeds with citrate for enlarged thin plates or with PVP for thickened plates.

Abstract:Inorganic nanoparticles with controlled size and shape seem especially technologically important due to the strong correlation between these parameters and their magnetic, electrical, and catalytic properties. Herein we demonstrate that uniform spine] cobalt oxide (Co3O4) nanocubes can be successfully synthesized on a large scale via a facile hydrothermal synthetic route under mild conditions. The size and shape of final products can be readily tuned in a wide range by tuning process parameters such as hydrothermal time, reaction temperature, surfactant, concentration, and molar ratios of starting material.

Abstract:Spherical CeO2 submicron particles were synthesized by a facile PVP-assisted hydrothermal method. By the analysis of XRD, FESEM, TEM and selected area electron diffraction (SAED), we confirmed that the as-obtained spherical CeO2 particles were formed by the oriented aggregation of fluorite CeO2 nanocrystals. The formation mechanism was discussed by varying synthetic parameters such as reaction temperature, and the concentration of cerium salt. In our synthetic process, Ce(NO3)3·6H2O was first hydrolyzed to rod-like organic cerium salt by the assistance of PVP, then the organic cerium salt was decomposed into CeO2 nanocrystals. Finally, spherical CeO2 particles were formed by the oriented aggregation of these CeO2 nanocrystals through the interaction between the same crystal planes of different nanocrystals and the assistance of PVP.

Abstract:In this work, we demonstrate the systematic and delicate geometry control of Cu2O nanocrystals by taking advantage of the selective surface stabilization effect. A variety of Cu2O architectures, evolved from cubes through truncated cubes, cubooctahedrons, truncated octahedrons and finally to octahedrons, were achieved by simply adjusting the added PVP. Based on the understanding of the intrinsic structural features of the cuprite Cu2O and PVP, we elucidated the underlying shape evolution mechanism. The as-prepared products demonstrated a crystallography-dependent adsorption ability with methyl orange (MeO) as the pollutant. With the advantage of a low cost, high yield and straightforward procedure without pre-formed crystals as sacrificial templates, this method may provide a good starting point for the study of shape construction and morphology-dependent properties of other nanocrystals.
Controllable Synthesis of Co3O4 Octahedra with the Assistance of C2 O2-4

Abstract:Co3 O4 octahedra exposing eight ( 111 ) facets were hydrothermally synthesized with the assistance of C 2 O2-4 .The prepared samples were characterized and analyzed by means of XRD , SEM, TEM and HRTEM.The results indicate that the Co3O4 octahedra exhibited cubic phase with high crystallinity.The influence of reaction time, reaction temperature and C2O2 -4 concentration on the morphology of Co 3 O4 were investigated in detail .It is prove that C 2 O2-4 would preferably adsorb on the (111) facets of Co3O4 nuclei, which would then restrict the further growth of (111) facets due to the larger space of C2O2 -4 than hydroxyl groups leading to the exposure of (111) facets.The present Co3O4 octahedra could catalyze the thermal decomposition of ammonium perchlorate ( AP) effectively due to the exposure of high energy facets .
