Abstract:Objective With the wide application of painless artificial abortion, more and more attention has been drawn to the safety of anesthesia in this surgical procedure. This study aimed to observe the changes of oxygen saturation with pulse oximetry(SpO2) in anesthesia with remifentanil and propofol, and to evaluate the clinical effect of preoxygenation in preventing SpO2 reduction during artificial abortion. Methods Sixty-five early-pregnant women(ASA Ⅰ-Ⅱ) undergoing artificial abortion with remifentanil and propofol were allocated randomly to three groups.Group 1 received oxygen through the dual nasal canal, group 2 through the mask, and group 3 through the mask before anesthesia. All the patients were given target-controlled infusion of 7.5 μg/ml propofol, followed by constant-speed intravenous infusion of remifentanil at 0.6 ?g/kg.Mean aortic pressure, heart rate and SpO2 were recorded during the abortion, and blood gas analysis was conducted 2 minutes after remifentanil infusion. Results Compared with groups 1 and 2,group 3 exhibited significantly higher levels of SpO2 and arterial oxygen saturation(PaO2)(P0.05) and a significantly lower rate of respiratory depression(14%,P0.05).Conclusion Preoxygenation through the mask before anesthesia can effectively prevent the reduction of SpO2 during artificial abortion with remifentanil and propofol.
