Abstract:The Laplace transform method for solving of a wide class of initial value problems for fractional differential equations is introduced. The method is based on the Laplace transform of the Mittag-Leffler function in two parameters. To extend the proposed method for the case of so-called "sequential" fractional differential equations, the Laplace transform for the ''sequential'' fractional derivative is also obtained. Besides that, tools necessary for testing candidate solutions by direct substitution in corresponding equations are introduced: fractional derivatives of the Mittag-Leffler function and the rule for the fractional differentiation of integrals depending on a parameter. Definition of the fractional Green's function is given and some of its properties, necessary for constructing solutions of initial-value problems for fractional linear differential equations, are presented. Explicit expressions for the fractional Green's function for the special cases of one-, two-, three- and four-term equations are given, as well as the explicit expression for an arbitrary n-term fractional linear ordinary differential equation with constant coefficients. Several examples of solution of various types of fractional differential equations, including fractional diffusion-wave equation. The bibliography (54 items) covers many field of possible application of fractional derivatives.

Abstract:Let (Sigma, g) be a compact Riemann surface with smooth boundary partial derivative Sigma, Delta(g) be the Laplace-Beltrami operator, and h be a positive smooth function. Using a min-max scheme introduced by Djadli and Malchiodi (2008) and Djadli (2008), we prove that if Sigma is non-contractible, then for any rho is an element of (8k pi,8(k + 1)pi) with k is an element of N*, the mean field equation {Delta(g)u = rho he(u)/integral(Sigma)he(u)dv(g) in Sigma, u = 0 on partial derivative Sigma has a solution. This generalizes earlier existence results of Ding et al. (Ann Inst H Poincare Anal Non Lineaire, 1999) and Chen and Lin (2003) in the Euclidean domain. Also we consider the corresponding Neumann boundary value problem. If h is a positive smooth function, then for any p is an element of (4k pi, 4(k + 1)pi) with k is an element of N*, the mean field equation {Delta(g)u = rho he(u)/integral(Sigma)he(u)dv(g) - 1/vertical bar Sigma vertical bar in Sigma, partial derivative u/partial derivative v = 0 on partial derivative Sigma has a solution, where v denotes the unit normal outward vector on partial derivative Sigma. Abstract:This article studies the Cauchy problem for the evolution p-Laplacian equation ut−Δpu=λum+μ|∇u|qur in RN×(0,T). The local existence, global existence and nonexistence of solutions are investigated. In particular, for the case λ>0 and μ>0, we obtain an optimal Fujita-type result, which demonstrates the positive gradient term brings about the discontinuity phenomenon of the critical exponent. For the case λ>0 and μ<0, the existence and nonexistence of global solutions are also discussed.

Abstract:In this paper, we study the following elliptic problem with critical exponent and a Hardy potential:−Δu−μ|x|2u=λu+|u|2⁎−2u,u∈H01(Ω), where Ω is a smooth open bounded domain in RN (N⩾3) which contains the origin and 2⁎ is the critical Sobolev exponent. We show that, if N⩾5 and μ∈(0,(N−22)2−(N+2N)2), this problem has a ground state solution for each fixed λ>0. Moreover, we give energy estimates from below and bounds on the number of nodal domains for these ground state solutions. If N⩾7 and μ∈(0,(N−22)2−4), this problem has infinitely many sign-changing solutions for each fixed λ>0.

Equation (0.1) is related to proper affine hyperspheres. We will show the existence of solutions of (0.1) u∈C∞(Ω)∩C(Ω¯) via regularization method. Using the technique in [10], [12], we also obtain the optimal graph regularity of the solution of (0.1).

Abstract:In this article, we prove that the equation of the Schrödinger maps from R2 to the hyperbolic 2-space H2 is SU(1,1)-gauge equivalent to the following 1+2 dimensional nonlinear Schrödinger-type system of three unknown complex functions p, q, r, and a real function u: iqt+qzz¯−2uq+2(p¯q)z−2pqz¯−4|p|2q=0, irt−rzz¯+2ur+2(p¯r)z−2prz¯+4|p|2r=0, ipt+(qr)z¯−uz=0, p¯z+pz¯=−|q|2+|r|2, −r¯z+qz¯=−2(pr¯+p¯q), where z is a complex coordinate of the plane R2 and z¯ is the complex conjugate of z. Although this nonlinear Schrödinger-type system looks complicated, it admits a class of explicit blow-up smooth solutions: p=0, q=(ei(bzz¯/2(a+bt))/a+bt)αz¯, r=e−i(bzz¯/2(a+bt))/(a+bt)αz¯, u=2α2zz¯/(a+bt)2, where a and b are real numbers with ab<0 and α satisfies α2=b2/16. From these facts, we explicitly construct smooth solutions to the Schrödinger maps from R2 to the hyperbolic 2-space H2 by using the gauge transformations such that the absolute values of their gradients blow up in finite time. This reveals some blow-up phenomenon of Schrödinger maps.

Abstract:The following semi-linear elliptic equations involving Hardy–Sobolev critical exponents −Δu−μux2=u2*s−2xsu+g(x,u),x∈Ω∖0,u=0,x∈∂Ω have been investigated, where Ω is an open-bounded domain in RNN≥3, with a smooth boundary ∂Ω, 0∈Ω,0≤μ<μ ̄:=N−222,0≤s<2, and 2*s=2N−s/N−2 is the Hardy–Sobolev critical exponent. This problem comes from the study of standing waves in the anisotropic Schrödinger equation; it is very important in the fields of hydrodynamics, glaciology, quantum field theory, and statistical mechanics. Under some deterministic conditions on g, by a detailed estimation of the extremum function and using mountain pass lemma with PSc conditions, we obtained that: (a) If μ≤μ ̄−1, and λ<λ1μ, then the above problem has at least a positive solution in H01Ω; (b) If μ ̄−1<μ<μ ̄,then when λ*μ<λ<λ1μ, the above problem has at least a positive solution in H01Ω; (c) if μ ̄−1<μ<μ ̄ and Ω=B(0,R), then the above problem has no positive solution for λ≤λ*μ. These results are extensions of E. Jannelli's research (g(x,u)=λu).

On Differential Systems Describing Surfaces of Constant Curvature

Abstract:The geometric notion of a differential system describing surfaces of constant nonzero Gaussian curvature is introduced. The nonlinear Schrödinger equation (NLS) with κ=1 and −1 is shown to describe a family of spherical surfaces (s.s.) and pseudospherical surfaces (p.s.s.), respectively. The Schrödinger flow of maps into S2 (the HF model) and its generalized version, the Landau–Lifschitz equation, are shown to describe spherical surfaces. The Schrödinger flow of maps into H2 (the M-HF model) provides another example of a system describing pseudo-spherical surfaces. New differential systems describing surfaces of nonzero constant Gaussian curvature are obtained. Furthermore, we give a characterization of evolution systems which describe surfaces of nonzero constant Gaussian curvature. In particular, we determine all differential systems of typeut=−vxx+H11(u,v)ux+H12(u,v)vx+H13(u,v),vt=−uxx+H21(u,v)ux+H22(u,v)vx+H23(u,v), which describe η-pseudospherical or η-spherical surfaces. As an application, we obtain four-parameter family of such systems for a complex-valued function q=u+iv given by iqt+qxx±iγ(∣q∣2q)x−iαqx±σ∣q∣2q−βq=0, where σ⩾0 if γ=0. Particular cases of this family, obtained by the vanishing of the parameters, are the linear equations, the NLS equation, the derivative nonlinear Schrödinger equation (DNLS) and the mixed NLS–DNLS equation.
The Helmholtz Dirichlet and Neumann problems on piecewise smooth open curves

Abstract:A numerical scheme is presented for solving the Helmholtz equation with Dirichlet or Neumann boundary conditions on piecewise smooth open curves, where the curves may have corners and multiple junctions. Existing integral equation methods for smooth open curves rely on analyzing the exact singularities of the density at endpoints for associated integral operators, explicitly extracting these singularities from the densities in the formulation, and using global quadrature to discretize the boundary integral equation. Extending these methods to handle curves with corners and multiple junctions is challenging because the singularity analysis becomes much more complex, and constructing high-order quadrature for discretizing layer potentials with singular and hypersingular kernels and singular densities is nontrivial. The proposed scheme is built upon the following two observations. First, the single-layer potential operator and the normal derivative of the double-layer potential operator serve as effective preconditioners for each other locally. Second, the recursively compressed inverse preconditioning (RCIP) method can be extended to address "implicit" second-kind integral equations. The scheme is high-order, adaptive, and capable of handling corners and multiple junctions without prior knowledge of the density singularity. It is also compatible with fast algorithms, such as the fast multipole method. The performance of the scheme is illustrated with several numerical examples.

Differential Harnack inequalities for semilinear parabolic equations on Riemannian manifolds I: Bakry-Émery curvature bounded below

Abstract:In this paper, we present a unified method for deriving differential Harnack inequalities for positive solutions of the semilinear parabolic equation \begin{equation*} \partial_t u=\Delta_V u+H(u) \end{equation*} on complete Riemannian manifolds with Bakry-Émery curvature bounded below. This method transforms the problem of deriving differential Harnack inequalities into solving a related ODE system. As an application of this method, we obtain new and improved estimates for logarithmic-type equations and Yamabe-type equations. Moreover, under the non-negative Bakry-Émery curvature condition, we obtain complete sharp estimates for these equations. As a natural consequence of these results, we also establish sharp Harnack inequalities and Liouville-type theorems for these equations.

Abstract:To study the regularity of heat flow, Lin and Wang (1999) introduced the quasi-harmonic sphere, which is a harmonic map from M=(Rm,e−|x|22(m−2)ds02) to N with finite energy. Here ds02 is Euclidean metric in Rm. Ding and Yongqiang (2006) showed that if the target is a sphere, any equivariant quasi-harmonic spheres is discontinuous at infinity. The metric g=e−|x|22(m−2)ds02 is quite singular at infinity and it is not complete. In this paper, we mainly study the eigenfunction of Quasi-Laplacian Δg=e|x|22(m−2)(Δg0−∇g0h⋅∇g0)=e|x|22(m−2)Δh for h=|x|24. In particular, we show that there are infinite number of eigenvalues (of the quasi-Laplacian Δg ) of which the corresponding eigenfunctions are discontinuous at ∞ and any non-constant eigenfunction of drifted Laplacian Δh=Δg0−∇g0h⋅∇g0 is discontinuous at infinity.

Abstract:Based on properties of Green's function and the some conditions of $ f(t, u) $, we found a minimal and a maximal positive solution by the method of sequence approximation. Moreover, based on the properties of Green's function and fixed point index theorem, the existence of multiple positive solutions for a singular $ p $-Laplacian fractional differential equation with infinite-point boundary conditions was obtained and, at last, an example was given to demonstrate the validity of our main results.

Abstract:Let ( M n , g ) be an n -dimensional complete Riemannian manifold. We consider gradient estimates for the positive solutions to the following nonlinear parabolic equation: u_t=Δ u+aulog u+bu on M n × [0, T ], where a , b are two real constants. We derive local gradient estimates of the Li-Yau type for positive solutions of the above equations on Riemannian manifolds with Ricci curvature bounded from below. As applications, several parabolic Harnack inequalities are obtained. In particular, our results extend the ones of Davies in Heat Kernels and Spectral Theory, Cambridge Tracts in Mathematics, vol 92, Cambridge University Press, Cambridge,1989, and Li and Xu in Adv Math 226:4456–4491 ( 2011 ).
