Abstract:Island is of great significance to determine a country thalassocracy.UNCLOS sets regulated system on island,rock and islet,but there is lack of regulation on role of island in delimitation of the sea.Current international practice does not form clear and consistent recognition on the position of island in sea boundary division.The South China Sea is broad but with small islands.Therefore,its legal status and importance in delimitation of the sea are worth of thorough research.
