Abstract:The justice of wealth distribution draws a lot of attention,and most research usually focuses on the discussion of income distribution. However the justice of other non-monetary indicators such as ecological environment,resource or energy consumptions by residential sector have not been paid enough attention,which are more basic and primal indicators.This article aims to evaluate the energy consumption embedded in all the commodities and services consumed by residents,and therefore unfold the spatial-temporal picture of Chinese residential energy consumption.Applying the residential data at the provincial level from 1985 to 2009 and input-output tables, the energy consumption covering the whole life cycle of commodities and services are quantified and analyzed.It shows that since the eighties residential energy consumptions have been increasing on the whole.The Gini coefficient of enery consumption first rised and then showed signs of falling in recent years.Theil index decomposition shows that urban and rural disparity is the major contributor to the distribution disparities across the country.Government should support the policies to increase rural residents' income and improve the living standard to diminish the urban-rural disparities.
