Abstract:With the high-speed development of industrialization process and the Internet e-commerce in China, the number of the fast cargoes is increasing. The transportation demands of customer should be provided in a convenient and efficient way. However, compared to road and aviation, railway express freight network is lagging in China, the market share is relatively low, and the service is still in a low level. The operation scheme of railway express freight train can improve the railway efficiency. This paper studies the railway express freight train schemes on several related questions. They are as follows: (1) We analyze the factors of operating express freight train. (2) Based on the assumption of the shortest path for the flow of traffic, the operation scheme of express freight railways is optimized by establishing a multitarget model with making the largest railway revenue and the largest satisfaction of cargo owner. (3) The multitarget model is proposed to be converted into a single-target model. It is the case of carrying out the operation scheme in the four logistics node cities of the southwest China. The following conclusions are taken: (1) The choice method of the flow path is generally analyzed by heuristic method, which is more accurate. (2) We establish a multiobjective optimization model on the base of getting the maximum of transport revenue and satisfying the cargo owner’s demand.

Abstract:In order to reduce the carbon emission, the related government departments encourage road freights to be transferred more by railway transportation. In China freight transport system, the road transportation is usually responsible for the freights that are in a short distance or the ones with high value-added. To transfer more high value-added freights from highway to railway, except the transportation expenses of railway have an advantage over the road, the transportation time is of certain competitive force as well. Therefore, it is very essential for railway to provide freight train products that are of competitive power. Under such circumstance, a multi-objective programming model of optimizing the rail express train network is devised in this work on the basis of taking both road and railway transportation modes into account. The aims of optimization are to minimize the operation costs of rail trains, and to maximize the railway transport revenue. In a network with a given set of express train services, either the all-or-nothing (AON) method or the logit model can be employed when assigning high value-added freights. These two flow assignment patterns are investigated in this work.

Abstract:The improvement of resource allocation efficiency of manufacturing enterprises is an important source of economic growth efficiency.This paper takes resource allocation as the starting point, constructs the enterprise traffic road index, and examines the impact of improved traffic accessibility on the microeconomic performance of enterprises.The research finds that the improvement of accessibility can improve the efficiency of enterprise resource allocation by reducing enterprise inventory, reducing price markup and strengthening innovation incentives; the improvement of transportation plays a greater role in improving the resource mismatch of labor and resource intensive enterprises and export enterprises than that of capital and technology intensive enterprises and domestic enterprises; traffic construction can optimize the resource allocation efficiency of eastern enterprises and non-state-owned enterprises, but it will aggravate the resource mismatch among enterprises in central, western, northeastern enterprises and state-owned enterprises.

Abstract:On analyzing the SF EXPRESS carbon emission way, the total carbon discharge and the emission reduction way on the low carbon economy development model, this paper finds the logistics enterprises a development model and points out its direction with a sort of technical methods such as technical and economic analysis and statistical analysis etc. It significantly contributes to the similar enterprises on the low carbon economy development with reference. Besides, on the detection of carbon discharge way and the evaluation of the emission, the paper proposes the development of LEC based on enterprise resources integration and rational transport. Through the optimization of the aviation and the terminal branches, the enterprises can get more economic benefits.

Abstract:Abstract In recent years, China’s economy has developed rapidly, especially in the Internet industry and e-commerce. These have led to the rapid growth of the express industry. The express delivery industry has a huge demand for transportation. However, due to the speed and convenience of highway, the highway transportation occupies a large market share. Due to relevant policies and the inadequate transportation capacity resource allocation, a large number of medium and long-distance freight flows that are suitable for railway transportation choose highway transportation. This not only greatly reduces the profits of the railway transportation department, increases the carbon emission of the transportation system, but also makes the load of some road sections higher than expected. Therefore, in order to protect the environment and enhance the market competitiveness of the railway department, the optimization of the railway express freight train schedule is an urgent task. On the basis of previous research results, this paper first calculates the generalized cost of highway and railway from the perspective of the cargo owner, and finds out whether the cargo owner will choose railway, that is, which freight flow will be attracted to the railway. Then, with the maximization of the profits of the railway department as the objective function, the 0-1 integer programming model is established under the constraints of railway transportation capacity, freight transportation time and decision variable value restrictions, etc. Finally, a small-scale example is designed. After put the data into the model, the optimized operation plan of railway express freight trains is obtained.
Consolidating Passenger and Freight Transportation in an Urban–rural Transit System

Abstract:Buses are the most critical part of urban–rural transit systems. However, bus transit services in urban–rural areas face a trade-off between the need for better services and the low profitability resulting from low travel demand. In this study, we show that we can improve the utilization and profitability of urban–rural buses by merging freight transportation with passenger transportation. We developed a mixed-integer program to model and analyze the coordination between freight and passenger transportation in an urban–rural transit system. We then conducted a case study to evaluate the effectiveness of the proposed approach. The numerical results indicate that the consolidation of passenger and freight transportation significantly reduces the operation cost of logistics companies and improves the profit of bus companies. We finally discuss the consolidation’s positive impacts on logistics companies, bus service providers, and society.

Abstract:The article is devoted to the problems of management of road transport enterprises in the conditions of modern challenges in this field to make timely management decisions. The authors analyzed and adapted the leading scientific and methodological approaches to ensure the effective functioning of the management of motor transport enterprises, including optimizing routes, introducing the latest technologies, reducing the impact on the environment and increasing resource use efficiency. The advantages and disadvantages of each approach were also determined, considering the complexity and dynamics of transport systems, access to data, consideration of environmental factors, etc. Using scientific management methods can help optimize processes, reduce costs, and increase productivity. However, it is also essential to consider the limitations and shortcomings of these approaches, such as the complexity of implementation, the lack of universality and the impossibility of taking into account all aspects of the management of road transport enterprises. The research can serve as a basis for developing new approaches and strategies for managing road transport enterprises to increase their competitiveness and sustainability. The article also provides a classification of motor transport enterprises according to various criteria. This classification provides a general idea of the different road transport enterprises and their socio-economic role. Also, this classification can be helpful for further research and development of management strategies according to the specific characteristics of enterprises. In conclusion, the authors emphasize the importance of a balanced management approach that considers the needs of various stakeholders, including passengers, staff, shareholders and local communities. An important aspect is the consideration of innovative business models and management strategies aimed at increasing customer value and improving operational efficiency. The study can help develop adaptive management strategies that consider changing market conditions and technological progress, ensuring the sustainable and competitive development of motor vehicle enterprises.

Abstract:Purpose - This study expounds that logistics enterprises should make use of an information-sharing mechanism, benefit distribution mechanism, and government guarantee mechanism to optimize and balance resource allocation with cooperative participants. Design/Methodology/Approach - This study developed a theoretical research model with interface management analysis, interface resource allocation, and interface management measures as independent variables; an interface connection mechanism and collaborative innovation capability as intermediary variables; and the low-carbon performance of enterprises as a dependent variable based on the structural equation model (SEM) and the empirical test, by selecting a certain number of logistics enterprises nationwide as research objects. Findings - This study discloses that elements such as interface management analysis, interface resource allocation, interface management measures, interface connection mechanism, and collaborative innovation capability contribute proportionally to the low-carbon performance of logistics enterprises. Meanwhile, the interface connection mechanism plays an intermediary role in the impact of interface management analysis and interface management measures on the low-carbon performance of enterprises. Research Implications - This study proposes that the collaborative innovation capability of enterprises should be improved through various interface management measures, and that R&D and the application of low-carbon technology and equipment must be accelerated, thus promoting the improvement of the low-carbon performance of enterprises, and enabling a low-carbon transformation in logistics enterprises, and even the whole logistics industry, so as to help achieve the carbon peak and move toward carbon neutrality as soon as possible.

Abstract:The transportation industry is the main source of carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions, and the development of multimodal transport is conducive to reducing transportation carbon emissions. In order to evaluate the low carbon efficiency of multimodal transport, this article proposes a cross efficiency data envelopment analysis (DEA) method for complex network structures from the perspective of fairness, and takes China's rail-water intermodal transport as an example for research. The proposed method includes two secondary goal models that reduce the unreasonable differences between self-evaluation and peer-evaluation and treat all stages within the network system equally. Then, the improved entropy weight method is used to aggregate the cross efficiency. In addition, a numerical example is given to verify the effectiveness of the proposed method. The results of the case study show that the efficiency of Tangshan Port and Rizhao Port is relatively high, and others should learn from the successful experiences and develop improvement strategies based on their own characteristics. The conclusions can provide reference for transportation enterprise management and policy formulation, and the proposed method can be widely applied to the performance analysis of enterprise network, industrial chain, and supply chain.

Abstract:With social progress and economic development, urban rail transit systems have been developed to satisfy the growing travel demands in China. Undoubtedly, it is necessary to evaluate the operation efficiency of urban rail transit systems and analyze their influence factors, which are highly significant for promoting management performance. In the present paper, an integrated approach is proposed, which consists of a data envelopment analysis (DEA) model, a Malmquist productivity index, and a Tobit regression model. For evaluating the operation efficiency of urban rail transit systems in China, the DEA model and the Malmquist productivity index provide an evaluation metric, and the Tobit regression model is used to carry out influential factor analysis. The test data are collected from six typical cities at different stages of rail transit system development from 2013 to 2017, in order to investigate the effectiveness of the proposed methodology. The experimental results demonstrate the operation efficiency of different rail transit systems and the effects of several influencing factors. The conclusions from this paper can guide policymaking and provide references for enterprises to improve the operation efficiency of rail transit in China.

Abstract:Many logistics enterprises in China have some problems, such as low transportation efficiency, long waiting time for loading and unloading, low mileage rate. These problems not only increase the operation cost of enterprises, but also hinder the development of logistics and transportation industry to a certain extent. As a new mode of transportation organization, drop and pull transport is widely used because of its advantages of reducing transportation costs, improving transportation efficiency, increasing mileage, reducing environmental pollution, and reducing waiting time for loading and unloading. By studying the advantages and organizational mode of drop and pull transport, this paper analyses the efficiency of full-trailers and semi-trailers. On this basis, combined with the actual transportation of R company, LINGO software is used to establish the transportation model, and the best route scheme based on the trailing transport is obtained.

Abstract:Due to the rapid development of the logistics industry, the business volume of the road transportation industry is also growing rapidly and its transportation costs are also increasing. Therefore, it is particularly important to control the transportation cost. This paper aims to evaluate and analyze the cost management of road logistics transportation based on the optimal solution of linear programming. This paper introduces the basic concept of highway logistics in general and analyzes its components and characteristics. Road logistics transportation has the characteristics of fast speed, low investment, strong flexibility, and easy to adapt to local conditions and does not require much infrastructure. We then analyzed the general linear programming model, made a brief introduction to its mathematical model, and proposed the construction of the optimization model to explore the transportation model of production and sales balance. Finally, taking W logistics company as a case to analyze and discuss, the influence of the transportation route in transit on the transportation cost is studied. And its structure and the corresponding transportation cost of logistics enterprises are analyzed in detail. The experimental results of this paper show that by comparing the calculation results of the road segment method and the linear programming model, the total freight calculated by the segment method is 5610 yuan, while the total freight calculated by the linear programming method is 5490 yuan. Comparing the piecewise methods, it can be found that the linear programming method is more economical in transportation cost than the piecewise method. Therefore, when logistics companies optimize road transportation costs, it is more feasible and effective to use linear programming methods.

Impact of Emerging Transport Technologies on Freight Economic and Environmental Performance: A System Dynamics View

Abstract:Road freight transport promotes economic development while impeding the future of green development due to excessive fossil fuel use. Road freight enterprises need to adapt to stricter environmental regulations while maintaining a reasonable level of profit. However, this is not easy in a growing economy such as China's, whose domestic freight demand is increasing rapidly with economic growth. The development of emerging transport technologies (ETTs) creates great potential for reducing the negative environmental impact of road freight transport. This study considers five candidate ETTs: eco-driving, fleet platooning, vehicle utilization, optimized vehicle design, and renewable energy trucks. A system dynamics analytical framework is established to explore the long-term impact of ETTs on road profit and greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions under the uncertainty of macroeconomic development. Road freight enterprises affiliated with the Qingdao port in China are taken as a case study. The economic and environmental impact of their adoption of ETTs is projected from 2020 to 2035. The results show that the economic growth in the port hinterland leads to an increase in road freight volume and profit, but it also yields a greater amount of GHG emissions from road transport. All of the candidate ETTs exhibit a positive effect on reducing GHG emissions from road transport, but they also cause profit losses due to a high application cost, even though they reduce transport operating costs by fuel savings. The results of the Sobol sensitivity analysis show that GHG reductions are sensitive to the adoption of ETTs. Thus, a carbon-based compensation mechanism is introduced. With this mechanism, road freight enterprises should prioritize vehicle utilization, optimized vehicle design, and eco-driving in their adoption of ETTs for more sustainable development. The results provide systems-based insights into ETT deployment decisions for road freight companies.
