Abstract:At first according to several typical definitions this paper concludes the characteristics of the module, based on which the descriptive model of the module of mechanical product and the concept of the module family are proposed, and then the configurative model of the module family of the mechanical product is discussed, so is the modular design of mechanical products based on the module family. Finally, three methods of the modular design of mechanical products are summarized.

Abstract:Providing "physical product and/or services" integrated solutions to customers becomes a trend,which is the new stage for service-oriented modular design.The paper analyzed the status of service-oriented modular design firstly,and differentiated the traditional physical products with the integrated product and services mode(generalized product).Then the modular design methods of generalized product was summarized and presented.Finally,the possible research directions for service-oriented modular design were discussed,including personalized design,eco-design and smarter design.

Abstract:In order to reduce time and cost on service robot development,modular classification on structure was given out with the concept of modular design.Detailed exposition on the contents of transmission layout,transmission realization,body stability and modular structural design of robot was carried out.The results of the assembly and experiment on a sample robot indicate that the development cycle of the service robot based on modular design method is shortened,and its performance satisfies the requirement of the design.

Abstract:With the improvement of people’s life quality, the design of household lamps is not only limited to its function and practicability, but also has a higher exploration and pursuit in the expression of “home” culture in the shape of lamps. However modern lamps and lanterns is designed seldom according to the consistent that installs a style to come to put forward integral illume plan, it is difficult to satisfy human nature greatly, individuation, bedroom style diversity, and with a unity of modularity requirements. In this paper, the new lighting technology of OLED is studied in depth. Then, the method of modular design is applied to carry out innovative design of OLED household lighting fixtures, and a concrete design example is given. It not only enriches the design style of lamps and lanterns, but also pays attention to the independent demand of users’ emotion.

Abstract:Currently most of LED street lights are designed integrally,and they can not be repaired conveniently when they break down or have too much light decay. This paper proposes a solution to this problem,which is called modularization of LED street light system. And several optical schemes are also introduced to the modularization of LED street light system. In particular,a novel method called inner surface light modulation is shown in the design of LED light distribution. It’s confirmed that modularization of LED street light system can benefit maintenance as well as other aspects.

Abstract:：Product modularization is one of the key technologies to realize mass customization, and it is also the foundation of industry 4.0, which can effectively support intelligent manufacturing.The traditional method of product modularization relies on experienced designers and takes a lot of time.And with the increasing number of customized products, the product changes faster and faster, this traditional method is more and more difficult to adapt for the development needs of the current situation.To solve these problems, some intelligent methods in product modularization are proposed, including: product name ontology establishment, product module partition optimization, module generalization and standardization, product main structure establishment etc.By using new generation of artificial intelligence technologies such as swarm intelligence, big data analysis and man-machine coordination, a large number of product module data, user order data and designers' behavior data of using product module are analyzed.By mining the similarity and relevance information such as product name relationship and module relationship hidden in the data, product name ontology, product module division, product common module, module main model and product main structure are determined.As a result, rapid large-scale product modularization is achieved, and the cost and time of product modularization are reduced.Key words：product modularity；modular design；intelligent manufacturing；intelligent modular design；a new generation of artificial intelligence
Modular Design Involving Effectiveness of Multiple Phases for Product Life Cycle

Abstract:Modular products can present many effectiveness scenarios in its product life cycle. Ideally, these scenarios can be achieved simultaneously. However, due to the diverse objectives of different phases, different module forms are required, and accordingly, conflicts may occur. Traditional modular design techniques have been motivated towards delivering variety, but with little incentive for effectiveness of modules per se. To reduce the conflicts, and to maximize the effectiveness of modules throughout product life cycle as much as possible, this paper put forward an effectiveness-driven modular design method which takes all effectiveness scenarios into consideration and balances the granularity and composition of modules among all possible forms during the clustering process. As the basis of effectiveness-driven modular design, a product descriptive model composed of components, interaction attributes, and liaison structure is proposed. Then, to cluster components according to different effectiveness scenarios at different phases, a quantitative split method for liaison structure is proposed. Furthermore, to maximize the effectiveness of the modules, three aggregation rules are put forward. A case study of wheel loader modular design is reported. Results and analyses reveal that the effectiveness-driven modular design excels in supporting modular design for life cycle.

Abstract:The car manufacturers can achieve scale merit only by large-scale production to reduce the cost as much as possible. However, a large-scale production usually generates similar design, same manufacture and similar products. Moreover, the customers have increasing individuation demands since both the rich customers and ordinary customers desire to gain individuation products. The modularization can eliminate the conflict between customers and car manufacturers, thus satisfying not only large-scale production but also individuation customization. The automotive modularization design must follow the design principle. The division of sub-module and deepening of modular levels have significant impact on automotive modularization adaptability. To adopt the modularization method for automotive design, the OEMs needn’t know design methods of all components except that they have to follow modularization design principle.

Abstract:Applying complex network to product modularization field,a module disassembling method of products was proposed.A coding method of dimensions of product was proposed.A method of how to construct dimension correlative relation network was presented,and a network of dimension correlative relation based on main model and main structure of product was constructed.A method of how to calculate the modularization coefficient of product was proposed,and an evaluation method of modularization grade of product was obtained.As an example,all methods were applied to gear-box product,and the methods were verified.

Abstract:Modular design is an effective method for fast integrating global low-carbon technologies to respond the market dynamic application demands. It is a valuable emerging interdisciplinary research field. This paper analyses the energy-saving features, drive mechanism and operating mechanism of modular design, and designs a low-carbon ‘products – technology’ dynamic configuration application model following the modular design rules. The research mainly applies the design research method, and integrates the research tools on technical innovation management and product engineering. Finally, from the angle of ‘technology – market’ cycle enhanced, we proposes the policy design to stimulate the modular integrated application of low-carbon technologies.

Abstract:With reference to the typical main connection diagram of mid- and low- voltage substations, the software and hardware design of automatic bus transfer device are simplified properly by applying the decomposition method in modularization. Universal modules can be established through decomposing the functions of the software and hardware. The devices made up of these adaptable modules meet the requirements of the typical main connection diagram and operate with high reliability, self-adaptation and good economical performance. Modular design will be widely adopted in automatic bus transfer.

Abstract:As one of the key ways to realize the industrialization and green development of construction, prefabricated construction is conducive to saving resources and energy and improving labor productivity and quality. Aiming to solve the problem of the lack of standardization in the design of prefabricated residential buildings, which leads to the components not being universally used and the industrial characteristics not being fully embodied, while excessive standardization leads to a lack of personalization and flexibility, the modular design theory is applied to the standardized design of prefabricated residential buildings in this study. The application route of modular design theory in the standardized design is constructed, that is, "system decomposition—module design—module combination". Taking residential buildings within a height of 54 m as an example, each basic functional module is standardized and combined into standard plans. At the same time, the functional space module design based on modular coordination and the module combination design based on the trinity of "modulus, pattern, and mode" are discussed. This research is of great significance for giving full play to the comprehensive benefits of prefabricated concrete structures in quality improvement, cost reduction, and rapid assembly.

Abstract:: The purpose of the research is to find a way which can deal with the housing shortage problems Modular design may be an effective solution for the current period. Different from the traditional modular design products on the market, which discussed in this study should have the characteristics of meeting the basic needs of consumers, comfort and personalization. The imminent problems fo demanders are lack in space, narrow and high pressure for living space in urban area. The modular design gives the “ made for assembly” nature of design, individual customization involves and catalyzes the shift for handing the “ product differentiation” individual customers. It also allows consumers to share functionality in limited space, it can greatly ease the problem from shrinking living space and the lack of proposed solution for constant overlapping functional areas with a large family. This research is focused on how the modular design can help current contemporary urban living people to deal with their living problems. The modular design can help those people who have limited living space to save area with a more effective and reasonable arrange by the innovative modular design. As the special kinds of design spread around the world, the average variable cost and marginal cost of producing the furniture will greatly decrease. As the result, the current problems above around the world will be solved efficiently.

Abstract:The continuous development of the society has led to the improvement of people's quality of life and consumption level. At the same time, peoples demand for all aspects of production and life is also increasing, thus promoting the emergence and innovation of intelligent household appliances. To manage these devices conveniently and quickly and enrich family life, "smart home" bureau plays a very important role. Smart home, which enters people's family life, uses communication technology, Internet connection technology, automatic fire control technology, network wiring technology, and visual and audio transmission technology to communicate with home. Mobile terminals have been developed, and more and more PC functions have been realized. Based on the hardware platform of the smart home management system, two solutions were put forward. The first solution is combined with the current 5G network, and through it, the user can control the mobile phone and other mobile terminals on the corresponding application operation instructions to create. The second solution is the design of the web server intelligent management system, for relevant information. It is collected into the database of the server, allows remote access to the node and subscriber information related to storage in the database through the Internet, and searches the information to control the home lighting and temperature. This system is designed to imitate the modular scheme, which includes the central control module, sensor data acquisition module, and software module. Finally, on the browser side and the electronic devices of Android operating system, it realizes the wireless control of lighting, air conditioning, washing machine, and other devices, as well as the detection of the home environment.

Modular design thinking is system-based design thinking, and its application to the design of an assembled teaching building project will comprehensively improve the rationality of the teaching building and component design. The paper focuses on the application of modular design thinking in assembled teaching building design, aiming to provide references for China’s architectural design units, giving full play to the advantages of modular design thinking in future teaching building design projects, and enhancing the level of design, for the construction of the teaching building and the basis of the technical guarantee.
