Abstract:The 3D U system moment is defined and is used for 3D model retrieval. As a kind of complete orthogonal polynomial system, U system has many good properties such as orthogonality and convergence. According to U system theory, the fast calculation of U1 system moments is established. Extensive experiments show that the U system moment is of higher discriminating power.

Abstract:In this paper, a novel 3D orthogonal Polynomial moment based on 3D U system polynomials is proposed, and is used for 3D model retrieval. U system is a kind of complete and orthogonal polynomials system. In this paper, we combine U system with spherical harmonic functions and define a shape descriptor-U system rotation invariant moments. The performance of the proposed method is evaluated by constructing precision/recall diagrams. Results clearly demonstrate effectiveness of this new method in the 3D-model retrieval process and superiority over the traditional Zernike moment invariants..

Abstract:In the discrete element method, determining the contact points between interacting particles and the associated contact normals at each time step is a critically important and time consuming calculation. Common-plane (CP) algorithm is one of the more effective methods for contact detection when dealing with two-dimensional polygonal or three-dimensional polyhedral particles. A new approach, called fast common plane (FCP) method, is proposed to find the common plane between polygonal particles. FCP approach recognizes that a common plane has identifying characteristics, which dramatically reduce the search space for the common plane. In two-dimensions, the CP is found by checking only 5 possible candidate planes. In three-dimensions, the candidate planes fall within 4 types related to the geometry of the particles and their relative positions. Numerical experiments reveal that in three dimensions FCP algorithm can be up to 40 times faster than available search methods for finding the common-plane.

Abstract:The rise of the digital imaging is remarkable, and the methods and techniques of image processing and analysis of the digital one must also accompany this technological evolution. In a line of research on the moments theory associated with digital imaging, values are extracted from digital images for the needs of classifications or even of reconstruction, as unique descriptors of an image, our work fits. In this paper, we propose a new method, fast and efficient, for calculating orthogonal moments on the discrete 3D image. We opted for the orthogonal polynomials of Meixner and for a new representation of the 3D image by cuboids having same gray levels called image cuboid representation. Based on this representation, we calculate the moments on each cuboid before summing all cuboids in order to obtain the global moments of a 3D image. Through a set of simulations, we prove that our method allows to reduce the time required for the calculation of moment on a 3D image of any size and any order, but not only, this method makes it possible to improve the quality of 3D image reconstruction from low-order moment.

Abstract:For the problem of real-time of target recognition algorithm based on moment is not high,and analyzes the application of the principal component analysis(PCA) in fast target recognition algorithm,this paper proposes the method based on the Jan Flusser affine invariant moments and PCA of fast recognition.By using the PCA in the Jan Flusser affine invariant moment feature space are optimized for dimensionality reduction,the method reduces the amount of calculation,and then some mainstream recognition algorithms are used to verify the real-time and accuracy of the method.The experimental results show that the method of real-time in Euclidean distance is increased 23.68%,the probabilistic neural networks is improved by 8.7%,the support vector machine is improved the accuracy of 21.01%,and only a small amount of reduction in accuracy,it does not change the recognition algorithm of the process.Meanwhile,it suits for three-dimensional object recognition under small angle change.

Abstract:360 & DEG; three-dimensional (3D) shape measurement is of great significance in the fields of defect detection and reverse modeling. Fringe projection profilometry (FPP) is widely used due to the advantages of high-accuracy and full-field measurement, but the movement of object corrupts the phase measurement. Stereo phase unwrapping (SPU) technique is adopted to improve imaging efficiency, but requires multi-cameras which resulting in high system complexity and cost. In this work, we proposed virtual stereo phase unwrapping (VSPU) method for high-speed 360 & DEG; 3D shape measurement. This method uses the virtual camera-projector systems formed by the rotation of object for phase unwrapping which only requires single camera-projector to achieve 360 & DEG; 3D shape measurement. The phase consistency checking in SPU method is modified. Experiments demonstrate that proposed method has strong robustness and can achieve 360 & DEG; 3D shape measurement in 47 s with an accuracy of 100 & mu;m during continuous rotation of the object.

Abstract:In this paper, 3-d wavelet moments are developed as new shape descriptors for 3-d objects. Compared with existed moments, they are not only robust to translation, rotation and scale, but also add the multi-resolution feature in the radical direction, which can handle noise to some extent and provide multi-level features to satisfy various requirements. At the same time, the computation of wavelet moments can be accelerated by using the fast algorithm of the spherical harmonics together with the Mallat algorithm of wavelets. Moreover, the orthonormality and the spatial completeness of the wavelet function make the reconstruction from the wavelet moments into reality.

Abstract:A novel moment, called 3D polar-radius-invariant-moment, is proposed for the 3D object recognition and classification. Some properties of these new moments including the invariance on translation, scale and rotation transforms are studied and proved. Then structure moment invariants are given to distinguish complicated similar shapes. Examples are presented to illustrate the performance and invariance of these moments. With the help of these moment invariants, the 3D models are distinguished accurately.

Abstract:Orthogonal moments are recognized as useful tools for object representation and image analysis. It has been shown that the recently developed discrete orthogonal moments have better performance than the conventional continuous orthogonal moments. In this paper, a new set of discrete orthogonal polynomials, namely Hahn polynomials, are introduced. The related Hahn moment functions defined on this orthogonal basis set are investigated and applied to image reconstruction. In experiments, the Hahn moments are compared with the other two discrete orthogonal moments: Chebyshev and Krawtchouk moments. The simulation results show that the Hahn moment-based reconstruction method is superior to the other two discrete orthogonal moment-based methods.

Abstract:An algorithm to efficiently compute the moments of volumetric images is disclosed. The approach demonstrates a reduction in processing time by reducing the computational complexity significantly. Specifically, the algorithm reduces multiplicative complexity from O(n^3) to O(n). Several 2D projection images of the 3D volume are generated. The algorithm computes a set of 2D moments from those 2D images. Those 2D moments are then used to derive the 3D volumetric moments. Examples of use in MRI or CT and related analysis demonstrates the benefit of the Discrete Projection Moment Algorithm. The approach is also useful in computing the moments of a 3D object using a small set of 2D tomographic images of that object.

Abstract:This paper presents three new separable 2-D discrete orthogonal moments. The kernel functions of the proposed Meixner Krawtchouk moments (MKM), Tchebichef-Charlier moments (TCM), and Meixner-Hahn moments (MHM) are mutually orthogonal and separable. Unlike the traditional 2-D discrete orthogonal moments, in the proposed separable 2-D discrete orthogonal moments, the kernel functions can be expressed as two separable terms by producing two different classical orthogonal polynomials of a variable. Specifically, the tense product of Meixner and Krawtchouk polynomials can be used to generate kernel functions for 2-D discrete orthogonal MKM. The global extraction capabilities of proposed moments are described by analyzing the reconstructed image's accuracy. The experimental results show that these proposed moments have better image description capabilities.

Abstract:This paper addresses bivariate orthogonal polynomials, which are a tensor product of two different orthogonal polynomials in one variable. These bivariate orthogonal polynomials are used to define several new types of continuous and discrete orthogonal moments. Some elementary properties of the proposed continuous Chebyshev–Gegenbauer moments (CGM), Gegenbauer–Legendre moments (GLM), and Chebyshev–Legendre moments (CLM), as well as the discrete Tchebichef–Krawtchouk moments (TKM), Tchebichef–Hahn moments (THM), Krawtchouk–Hahn moments (KHM) are presented. We also detail the application of the corresponding moments describing the noise-free and noisy images. Specifically, the local information of an image can be flexibly emphasized by adjusting parameters in bivariate orthogonal polynomials. The global extraction capability is also demonstrated by reconstructing an image using these bivariate polynomials as the kernels for a reversible image transform. Comparisons with the known moments are performed, and the results show that the proposed moments are useful in the field of image analysis. Furthermore, the study investigates invariant pattern recognition using the proposed three moment invariants that are independent of rotation, scale and translation, and an example is given of using the proposed moment invariants as pattern features for a texture classification application.

Abstract:Discrete orthogonal moments such as Tchebichef moments and Krawtchouk moments are more powerful in image representation than traditional continuous orthogonal moments. However, less work has been done for the summarisation of these discrete orthogonal moments. This study proposes two general forms which will simplify and group the discrete orthogonal Tchebichef and Krawtchouk polynomials and their corresponding moments, and discusses their importance in theories and applications. Besides, the proposed general form can be used to obtain other three discrete orthogonal moments: Hahn moments, Charlier moments and Meixner moments. Computations of these discrete orthogonal polynomials are also discussed in this task, including the recurrence relation with respect to variable x and order n. Some properties of these discrete orthogonal moments, which are of particular value to image processing applications, such as energy compact capability and signal decorrelation, are also presented. Finally, the study evaluates these discrete orthogonal moments in terms of the capacity of image reconstruction and image compression, and discusses the importance of the proposed general form in theories and engineering.

Abstract:Image representation is an important topic in computer vision and pattern recognition. It plays a fundamental role in a range of applications toward understanding visual contents. Moment-based image representation has been reported to be effective in satisfying the core conditions of semantic description due to its beneficial mathematical properties, especially geometric invariance and independence. This article presents a comprehensive survey of the orthogonal moments for image representation, covering recent advances in fast/accurate calculation, robustness/invariance optimization, definition extension, and application. We also create a software package for a variety of widely used orthogonal moments and evaluate such methods in a same base. The presented theory analysis, software implementation, and evaluation results can support the community, particularly in developing novel techniques and promoting real-world applications.

Abstract:3D moment invariants are important tools for 3D image feature representation. In this paper, we introduced a novel approach for constructing 3D moment invariants using Gaussian geometric moments. Our proposed method demonstrated invariance under translation, rotation, and scale transformations. The numerical experiments validate the invariance and robustness of the proposed method, comparing it with traditional 3D geometric moments and revealing superior performance in the presence of noise and transformations. Additionally, the method is applied to content-based 3D image retrieval, exhibiting promising results through Minkowski distance-based retrieval on the Princeton Shape Benchmark (PSB) database.

Abstract:In this research, we have proposed the parallel GPU-accelerated algorithms to compute the Jacobi moments defined in a rectangular region with substantially improved computational efficiency and highly satisfied accuracy. In our algorithms, the parallel 3-D matrix multiplications are adopted to increase the computational efficiency, while the techniques of coalesced memory access, shared memory and heterogeneous computation are utilized to optimize the computing performance on a GPU platform. Our new GPU-accelerated system can provide any required moment computational accuracy without additional computing time. To verify the performance of our new parallel GPU-accelerated algorithms, we conducted a series of 2D and 3-D image analysis tests via the Jacobi moments with encouraging outcome, while the computing times for all these experimental tasks are in the level of milliseconds. It is expected that our new parallel GPU-accelerated algorithms will expedite the research in 3-D image analysis via the moment methods in the real-time range.

Abstract:The OpenMP-CUDA Accelerated Moment Method (MoM) for the electromagnetic scattering by 3-D arbitrarily shaped homogeneous dielectric objects is presented. In the analysis, We use multi-GPUs controlled by OpenMP to accelerate the matrix filling and solving procedure. Specially, we adopt the well-behaved threshold-based incomplete LU preconditioner (ILUT) to improve the iteration convergence. Numerical results demonstrate that our implementation have a good precision and high speed-up ratio.

Abstract:Discrete orthogonal moments are powerful tools for characterizing image shape features for applications in pattern recognition and image analysis. In this paper, a new set of discrete orthogonal moments is proposed, based on the discrete Racah polynomials. In order to ensure numerical stability, the Racah polynomials are normalized, thus creating a set of weighted orthonormal Racah polynomials, to define the so-called Racah moments. This new type of discrete orthogonal moments eliminates the need for numerical approximations. The paper also discusses the properties of Racah polynomials such as recurrence relations and permutability property that can be used to reduce the computational complexity in the calculation of Racah polynomials. Finally, we demonstrate Racah moments’ feature representation capability by means of image reconstruction and compression. Comparison with other discrete orthogonal transforms is performed, and the results show that the Racah moments are potentially useful in the field of image analysis.
