Abstract:The present article focuses on a stepless capacity regulation system for reciprocating compressors in the capacity range between 0 and 100 per cent. This system is based on the so-called reverse flow regulation principle. The principle works by reversing part of the total gas that has been taken into the cylinder by conveying it back to the suction chamber by holding the suction valve open for a controlled and variable proportion of the compression stroke. Therefore the discharge capacity and power reduction are virtually proportional. In this study, the thermal cycle of reciprocating compressors in the case of stepless capacity regulation is analysed. The theoretical model of the thermodynamics cycle is first established. The relationship between the variation of the capacity and the opening time of the suction valve in a compression stroke can be obtained. Based on this approach, a new stepless capacity regulation system is designed, which consists of a hydraulic unit, a distributor, an unloader, and a control system. The resulting system is applied to a type 3L-10/8 reciprocating compressor to demonstrate its effectiveness. The experimental results show that the capacity of the compressor can be regulated steplessly, and the energy consumption is reduced proportionally with respect to the reduction in the capacity.

Abstract:According to the numerical simulations of the compression process of the reciprocating compressor, it shows that the power consumption is reduced under the approximate isothermal compression process compared with the adiabatic compression. Since the approximate isothermal compression process can be achieved by using oil lubrication system, numerous tests of using the oil lubricants has been done and the optimal intake volume is gained so the COP value of the compressor reaches the highest.

Abstract:The present article focuses on the mechanical effects of reciprocating compressor in the case of stepless capacity regulation. Under the condition of capacity regulation, the normal operation condition of the reciprocating compressor will be changed, so it is necessary to analyze the mechanical effects for the reciprocating compressor. When reciprocating compressor is operating under the capacity stepless regulation system, because the moment when the gas force in cylinder reach the maximum value is delayed, the crankshaft may bear heavier loads, the resultant forces and moments of the crankshaft may be unbalance, the friction may increase the piston ring wear. In this study, some mathematics modal of the running machine parts are established to analyze the mechanical effects of the compressor in the case of capacity stepless regulation, The experiments are carried out in type 3L-10/8 reciprocating compressor to verify the simulation results. The test results will provide the theoretical basis for the design and industry applications of the capacity stepless regulation system.

Abstract:Regulating capacity by holding suction valves open in the partial compression stroke has a great application value for reciprocating compressors, which can reduce the power consumption proportionally with respect to the decrease of capacity. To allow this method to be widely applicable, it is important to analyze the changes in the dynamic performance of reciprocating compressors. This study focuses on the dynamic performance in an M-type reciprocating compressor with capacity regulation system. When the compressor’s capacity is regulated, the connecting rod force and normal force are within a reasonable range. The capacity regulation system has little effect on the shaft speed irregularity of compressor when the capacity regulation ratio is below 100%. The designed flywheel moment can satisfy the compressor’s safe operation under variable capacity regulation conditions. The results show that the application of the capacity regulation system has little negative influence on the compressor’s dynamic performance.

Abstract:In reciprocating compressors, partial unloading stepless capacity regulation causes the power consumption to reduce in proportion to the decrease in capacity. To enable the widespread application of this method, it is necessary to analyse the changes in the mechanical status of a reciprocating compressor while its capacity is being regulated. This study focused on the rod reversal in a reciprocating compressor and evaluated the influence of capacity regulation. Based on a thermodynamic cycle model, the reversal angles for different capacities were calculated and compared for an M-type reciprocating compressor. The calculated results show that, for a compressor for which the designed reversal angles are sufficiently large to ensure good lubrication for pin and bushing assemblies, stepless capacity regulation can guarantee its safe operation.

Abstract:The existing researches of stepless capacity regulation system by depressing the suction valve for reciprocation compressor always adopt hypothesis that the compressor valves are open or close instantaneously, the valve dynamic has not been taken account into thermal cycle computation, the influence of capacity regulation system on suction valves dynamic performance and cylinder thermal cycle operation has not been considered. This paper focuses on theoretical and experimental analysis of the valve dynamic and thermal cycle for reciprocating compressor in the situation of stepless capacity regulation. The valve dynamics equation, gas forces for normal and back flow, and the cylinder pressure varying with suction valve unloader moment during compression thermal cycle are discussed. A new valve dynamic model based on L-K real gas state equation for reciprocating compressor is first deduced to reduce the calculation errors induced by the ideal gas state equation. The variations of valve dynamic and cylinder pressure during part of compression stroke are calculated numerically. The calculation results reveal the non-normal thermal cycle and operation condition of compressor in stepless capacity regulation situation. The numerical simulation results of the valve dynamic and thermal cycle parameters are also verified by the stepless capacity regulation experiments in the type of 3L-10−8 reciprocating compressor. The experimental results agree with the numerical simulation results, which show that the theoretical models proposed are effective and high-precision. The proposed theoretical models build the theoretical foundation to design the real stepless capacity regulation system.

Abstract:The rated capacity of reciprocating compressor tends to be higher than the level needed, so the capacity regulation needs to be implemented to save unnecessary energy waste. Among the methods for reciprocating compressor capacity regulation, holding the suction valves open in partial stroke is a widely used method for its economy, full-range and easy-using characters. The capacity regulation system based on a hydraulic distributor has been successfully applied in industrial process. Hydraulic distributor is the core component of the complete set of stepless capacity regulation system. Continuous high-pressure hydraulic oil provided by hydraulic unit is converted into a pressure impulse wave with a controllable periodic time and pressure acting time when it flows through the hydraulic distributor, which is used to realize the suction valves regulation when it is in the compression stroke. Although the equipment is successfully used in industry fields, the fluid mechanics design of hydraulic distributor is still empirical as its complexity of the fluid field in inner circulation space. For better and more rational distributor design, the flow field in inner zones needs to be better analysed and studied. The manuscript concerned the subjects of path lines, pressure and velocity distribution in hydraulic distributor's flow channels using the CFD software FLUENT. The article explored the flow field characteristics and the flow performance with 5.0 MPa outlet pressure. In the end, a systematic conclusion would be given to guide the actor design.

Abstract:Vapor-compression refrigeration systems (VCRS) are applied extensively in domestic, commercial and industrial refrigeration and are responsible for a high percentage of worldwide energy consumption. To achieve high energy efficiency, the application of advanced control methods in VCRS has increasingly attracted the attention of academia and industry. The model-free adaptive control (MFAC) strategy, as an important branch of advanced control research, encounters the problem of parameter tuning when applied to VCRS with strong nonlinearities. In this work, a parameter self-tuning methodology based on the self-learning and self-adapting properties of back propagation neural networks with the System Error set and/or Gradient Vector set as inputs is proposed to adjust the parameters utilized in SISO Partial-Form Model-Free Adaptive Control (SISO-PFMFAC). To test the performance of this novel methodology named SISO-PFMFAC-NNSEGV, qualitative and quantitative comparisons are carried out between the proposed method and the decentralized single PIDs given in the simulation platform provided by the benchmark PID 2018. The integral absolute error (IAE), the integral time-weighted absolute error (ITAE), the integral absolute variation of control signal (IAVU) and a combined index Jc are used to evaluate the performance. As a result, the proposed method shows the best performance with a higher tracking accuracy and less variation of the control signal with a combined index Jc = 0.7088, which represents a 29.1% improvement over the benchmark PID controller and a 9.6% improvement over the SISO-PFMFAC controller, making it a promising control method for vapor-compression refrigeration systems.

Abstract:Reciprocating compressors are still widely used in the gas and refining industries to compress light gases such as hydrogen, ammonia, and methane for their wide adaptability and high efficiency. But regulating capacity efficiently for this type compressor is a long-term problem. It is very important to implement stepless capacity regulation of reciprocating compressors to meet the demands of a changing industry. A discussion covers a new regulation facility designed to achieve this aim; ways to provide capacity regulation for reciprocating compressors, e.g., bypass, speed control, and clearance pocket; advantages of depressing the suction valves in the partial compression stroke to realize capacity regulation; guaranteeing enough suction valve life; unloader design; retrofitting existing compressors; realizing an undisturbed switch to the new system; and energy savings and control dynamics.

Abstract:The reciprocating pumps are widely used for transporting fluid in oil field. The flow pulsation and pressure fluctuation in the conventional reciprocating pump with short stroke, high speed and simple harmonic motion of piston driven by crank-connecting rod mechanism are inevitable. For reducing the flow and pressure pulsation, a hydraulic reciprocating pump with the GPCM control by means of normal on-off valve is designed. In order to improve the overall pump performances and life span, fault analysis and optimized design of the pump valve are completed. The mathematical model of the asymmetric cylinder system with PCM valve control used in the hydraulic reciprocating pump is built. The digital simulation about the control system is done, and the result shows that the pulsation of pump discharge flow is improved greatly.

Abstract:The method that depresses the suction valves in the partial compression stroke to realize the stepless capacity regulation for reciprocating compressor makes the compressor power consumption reduce along with the decreasing of capacity. However, the operation condition of suction valves is greatly changed by this method and it is necessary to analyze the stress distribution of suction valve to guarantee the safety operation. In this paper, a FEA model of the suction valve used in reciprocating compressor with the unloader is given. It is found that there is more than one impact between valve plate and unloader prong in the process of depressing the suction valves. The impact stress and speed of the suction valve plate varying with the different assemble error or the hydraulic pressure is obtained. Compared with the normal condition, it can be seen that the maximum stresses arisen from the over-high hydraulic oil pressure or the assemble error are in an order of the plastic deformation and crack initiation.

Abstract:<p>The actuator of the stepless capacity control system of a reciprocating compressor directly controls the action characteristics of the suction valve, thus changing the regulation system energy-saving effect and the operating performance of the compressor. Optimizing the structural and control parameters of the actuator can reduce the withdrawal impact of the valve plate and improve valve performance. As a mechatronic hydraulic system, the capacity control system has the characteristics of multi-system coupling, system structure and interrelated control parameters. This paper improves the operating model of the reciprocating compressor under the condition of capacity control and integrates the coupling effect between mechanical and hydraulic systems and the valve. The solution was solved using a multi-software co-simulation method and the correctness was verified through comparisons with experimental data. The effects of reset spring stiffness, actuator stroke, and return oil pressure on valve action characteristics, compressor performance, and energy-saving effect were analysed. The valve plate withdrawal speed, and the compressor performance parameters, such as operating pressure, standard capacity, indicated work, and indicated specific work as evaluation indexes, and the optimum design scheme of reset spring stiffness, actuator stroke, and return pressure is proposed. The results indicated that, under the premise of guaranteeing control effect and compressor performance, the capacity control system of the reciprocating compressor with optimized parameters reduces valve plate withdrawal speed by 10.8%, improves valve performance, saves energy, and reduces unit maintenance costs.</p>

Abstract:The controller of high pressure reduction with expander pneumatic system was researched.A high-pressure pneumatic system experimental table was set up.MSP430 ultra-low power consumption chip was adopted as the MCU of the controller inorder to adapt to the limited power supply and working space on the compressed air powered vehicles(CAPV).The experimental Research was done about the predictive PID control of high pressure reduction with expander pneumatic system. Experimental results indicate that can supply stable output pressure,and pressure variation of air supply has little effect to the stable of output pressure.Application tests on the CAPV indicate that pressure reduction with expander system satisfies the requirements of the CAPV in function.

Abstract:Linear compressor has a unique feature on capacity regulation by modifying the piston stroke of piston, with results a big dead volume in a low cooling capacity output condition. This paper provides an energy recovery control method to recovering the energy of the compressed gas in the clearance. A test bench was established and the results show that It is practical and reliable to apply energy recovery control and the optimal operating frequency decreases as the cooling capacity increases with energy recovery control.

Abstract:In this paper, an on-line discharge capacity detection method for linear compressor is presented so that the capacity regulation control system of linear compressor can adjust its output upon the real working conditions. A mechatronic parameter, the vertical component of motional electromotive force, is applied as the character for discharge capacity detection. According to the variation tendency of this parameter, the pumping point and the top dead center (TDC) of the piston can be detected on-line. Then the discharge capacity of the linear compressor can be gained by comparing the relationship between the piston stroke, the pumping point and TDC. An experimental bench, as well as a simulation model is setup to verify the feasibility of this method. The investigation results show that the simulation prediction fit well with the experimental results. The discharge capacity of linear compressor under different working conditions can be detected and modulated in real time.

Abstract:The regulating performance degradation of the stepless capacity regulation system for reciprocating compressors occurs frequently in long-term operations. It affects the safe and stable operation of the compressor seriously. The degradation mechanisms in a stepless capacity regulation system are mainly caused by valve leakage, degeneration of the reset spring of the unloader, and (or) deviation of the solenoid valve’s characteristic parameters. In this study, to research the system performance degradation mechanisms and the influence of control parameters on system behavior, a multi-subsystem mathematics model which integrates compressor, gas pipeline, buffer tank, and actuator was built. In order to calculate the rate of degradation, a load prediction model based on a modified back-propagation neural network was established. The rate of degradation can be calculated using the predicted results. In order to optimize system regulation performance, a degradation-based optimization framework was developed which determines optimum control parameter compensation to achieve a minimum degradation rate. In addition, in order to avoid over-compensation, an adaptive control parameter compensation optimization method was adopted. According to the deviation between the given load and the prediction load, the control parameter compensations are obtained adaptively. Finally, two optimization experiments are carried out to show the effectiveness of the developed framework. The optimization results illustrate the degradation rate of the system gradually returning to normal during 60s without any over-compensation.
