Comput., in press], the author proposed a predictor–corrector process for large scale linear system of algebraic equations with ill-conditioned coefficient matrix. Basing on the same principle, this article introduces another iterative process which simplifies and reduces the computational procedure. Abstract:Mehrolra’s recent suggestion of a predictor-corrector variant of primal-dual interior-point method for linear programming is currently the interior-point method of choice for linear programming. In this work the authors give a predictor-corrector interior-point algorithm for monotone variational inequality problems. The algorithm was proved to be equivalent to a level-1 perturbed composite Newton method. Computations in the algorithm do not require the initial iteration to be feasible. Numerical results of experiments are presented.

Abstract:We propose and analyse an exponential approach to solving highly ill-conditioned linear systems with a positive definite matrix. This approach also provides a new technique to find the inverse of a given positive definite matrix by a one-stop procedure. The advantages of this approach are its conceptual simplicity and ease of implementation. Numerical experiments are carried out. Numerical results demonstrate the effectiveness and superiority of the exponential approach to solving highly ill-conditioned systems of algebraic equations in comparison with the standard MATLAB codes.

Abstract:The model error compensation method has been extended to stabilise a class of single-input single-output non-affine systems under two simple inequalities conditions. This extension is based on the careful design of the saturation function of control input which plays a key role in determining the local exponential stability and the attraction region. Two examples are presented to demonstrate the efficacy of the proposed method.

Abstract:An off-line algorithm of constrained predictive control model based on linear matrix inequalities is presented to reduce potential on-line computational complexity. Piecewise-linear feedback control law is off-line constructed through LMI optimization. The algorithm, when executed on-line under the conditions required by the piecewise-linear feedback control law, can be used to improve greatly the on-line computational efficiency. The effectiveness of the proposed algorithm is illustrated by simulation results.

Abstract:The simplified Newton method, at the expense of fast convergence, reduces the work required by Newton method by reusing the initial Jacobian matrix. The composite Newton method attempts to balance the trade-off between expense and fast convergence by composing one Newton step with one simplified Newton step. Recently, Mehrotra suggested a predictor-corrector variant of primal-dual interior point method for linear programming. It is currently the interiorpoint method of the choice for linear programming. In this work we propose a predictor-corrector interior-point algorithm for convex quadratic programming. It is proved that the algorithm is equivalent to a level-1 perturbed composite Newton method. Computations in the algorithm do not require that the initial primal and dual points be feasible. Numerical experiments are made.

Abstract:This paper aims at a predictor-corrector interior-point algorithm for solving weighted linear complementarity problem with -matrices, which is a variant of weighted complementarity problem and has wide applications in science, engineering, and economics. We first apply the algebraic equivalent transformation technique, and then use the identity function to determine the new search directions. Under suitable conditions, the feasibility and convergence of the algorithm are established. Moreover, we show that the proposed algorithm has polynomial-time complexity. As far as we know, this is the first predictor-corrector interior-point algorithm for -weighted linear complementarity problem based on the above-mentioned search directions. Preliminary numerical results demonstrate that our algorithm performs well and efficiently on the test problems.

Abstract:Simulation and optimization based on equation-oriented models benefit the most from advanced modeling and optimization methods. However, linearly dependent and inconsistent constraints that arise from poor models or nonlinear programming(NLP) algorithms result in failure in practice. A method to detect the inconsistent constraints in this case is proposed. The detection is based on the infeasible system identification of NLP solvers and takes advantage of the structure of linearly dependent systems. Efficiency of the detection process can be improved significantly through proper linear solver invocations. Numerical experiments on examples derived from CUTE and COPS test sets demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method. © All Rights Reserved.

Abstract:In a recent paper [X.Y. Wu, R. Shao, Yiran Zhu, New iterative improvement of solution for an ill-conditioned system of linear equations based on a linear dynamic system, Comput. Math Appl. 44 (2002) 1109–1116], the authors analyzed the dynamic behavior for Wilkinson’s iterative improvement of solution and proposed a new iterative improvement of solution for an ill-conditioned system of linear equations based on a linear dynamic system. It was claimed that Wilkinson’s iterative improvement of solution can be regarded as the explicit Euler method with fixed step size h=1 for the dynamic system. In this paper, the iterative improvement of solution with automatic step-size control is presented for linear system of algebraic equations. The convergence of the iterative procedure is shown for both stationary and non-stationary iteration, when the procedure is thought of as an iterative method. Numerical experiments are accompanied in comparison with Wilkinson’s iterative improvement.

Abstract:In this paper, the analysis of the dynamic system for iterative improvement of a solution is discussed, and the new iterative improvement of a solution is proposed based on the dynamic system. We have proved that the new iterative improvement of the solution is convergent unconditionally. The numerical experiments illustrate that the new iterative improvement of the solution is more effective for an ill-conditional system of linear equations.

Abstract:In this work, a predictor–corrector compact difference scheme for a nonlinear fractional differential equation is presented. The MacCormack method is provided to deal with nonlinear terms, the Riemann–Liouville (R-L) fractional integral term is treated by means of the second-order convolution quadrature formula, and the Caputo derivative term is discretized by the L1 discrete formula. Through the first and second derivatives of the matrix under the compact difference, we improve the precision of this scheme. Then, the existence and uniqueness are proved, and the numerical experiments are presented.

Abstract:An available parametric correction method for asymmetric multivariable nondefective systems is investigated. It will be proved that the eigensolutions associated with the repeated eigenvalues are not differentiable, although their partial derivatives exist. A calculable generalized Jacobian matrix is presented based on the first-order Taylor expansion of the repeated root eigenpairs as the case of symmetric systems, which ensures the feasibility of the inverse sensitivity method for parametric correction. The first-order directional derivatives of the repeated root eigenpairs are also found. Two numerical asymmetric examples are given to verify the validity of the method by use of simulated data.

Abstract:In this paper, the conventional Smith predictor is modified, which leads to significant improvements in its regulatory capacities for reference inputs and disturbances. The proposed modification utilizes the existing prediction of the conventional time delay compensator and decouples the setpoint response from the disturbance response. The setpoint response and the disturbance response of the closed-loop system are adjusted by two parameters, respectively. This allows the designer to optimize them simultaneously. Illustrative examples are provided to show the advantages of the modified scheme.

Abstract:Interior point methods (IPMs) are a common approach for solving linear programs (LPs) with strong theoretical guarantees and solid empirical performance. The time complexity of these methods is dominated by the cost of solving a linear system of equations at each iteration. In common applications of linear programming, particularly in machine learning and scientific computing, the size of this linear system can become prohibitively large, requiring the use of iterative solvers, which provide an approximate solution to the linear system. However, approximately solving the linear system at each iteration of an IPM invalidates the theoretical guarantees of common IPM analyses. To remedy this, we theoretically and empirically analyze (slightly modified) predictor-corrector IPMs when using approximate linear solvers: our approach guarantees that, when certain conditions are satisfied, the number of IPM iterations does not increase and that the final solution remains feasible. We also provide practical instantiations of approximate linear solvers that satisfy these conditions for special classes of constraint matrices using randomized linear algebra.

Abstract:The extended version with the analysis of dynamic system for Wilkinson's iteration improvement of solution is presented in this paper. It turns out that the iteration improvement can be viewed as applying explicit Euler method with step size h=1 to a dynamic system which has a unique globally asymptotically stable equilibrium point, that is, the solution x*=A-1b of linear system Ax=b with non-singular matrix A. As a result, an extended iterative improvement process for solving ill-conditioned linear system of algebraic equations with non-singular coefficients matrix is proposed by following the solution curve of a linear system of ordinary differential equations. We prove the unconditional convergence and derive the roundoff results for the extended iterative refinement process. Several numerical experiments are given to show the effectiveness and competition of the extended iteration refinement in comparison with Wilkinson's.

Abstract:The restrictive preconditioning technique applied to Chebyshev semi-iterative methods for solving a nonsingular system of linear equations is studied. Motivated by the fact that linear systems involving a preconditioner are solved inexactly at each step, we present the inexact restrictively preconditioned Chebyshev method. The convergence behaviors of the new methods are analyzed, particularly for solving two-by-two block systems. Numerical experiments show that the new methods may be more efficient than the restrictively preconditioned conjugate gradient method in the presence of inexactness. Moreover, the inexact restrictively preconditioned Chebyshev method is a strong competitor to the block upper triangular preconditioned GMRES and flexible GMRES methods for solving generalized saddle point problems.

Abstract:There has been much interest recently in smoothing methods for solving semidefinite programming (SDP). In this paper, based on the equivalent transformation for the optimality conditions of SDP, we present a predictor-corrector smoothing Newton algorithm for SDP. Issues such as the existence of Newton directions, boundedness of iterates, global convergence, and local superlinear convergence of our algorithm are studied under suitable assumptions.

Abstract:Although the idea of iteration refinement for improving the computed solution to a system of linear equations can go back to 1948, the technique has remained popular [SIAM, Philadelphia, PA, 1998; BIT 17 (1977) 303; Math. In this paper, a new iterative improvement of solution with biparameter for solving ill-conditioned systems of linear algebraic equations is proposed. Both theoretical convergence analysis and numerical experiments are presented to show the efficiency and accuracy of our method.
