Abstract:Aim To compare the cognitive function of patients with Parkinson’s disease(PD) only,those with concomitant rapid-eye-movement sleep(REM) behavior disorder(RBD) and the normal controls,and discuss the cognitive characteristics of PD and the influence of RBD on it.Methods 50 PD patients,15 PSG-confirmed PDRBD patients and 50 normal control subjects underwent a comprehensive neuropsychological evaluation,which covered verbal memory,non-verbal memory,visuospatial function,language and attention/executive function.Results Patients with PD and concomitant RBD showed significantly worse performance on standardized tests measuring verbal memory,visuospatial function,language and attention/executive function.Conclusion Cognitive impairment in non-demented patients with PD was closely related to the presence of REM sleep behavior disorder,which may be an important forecasting factor in cognition impairment.
