Ray-Scan 64 Pet/Ct Performance Evaluation and Clinical Application

Abstract:1848 Objectives This paper focused on evaluating the performance of Ray-Scan 64 PET/CT system, a newly developed PET/CT system in China. The purpose of this paper is to report the performance characteristics of the Ray-Scan 64 PET/CT system according to NEMA NU-02 2007 standard. Methods The performance measurements were conducted focusing on PET scanner according to the National Electrical Manufacturers Association (NEMA) NU-2 2007 standard. Spatial resolution, sensitivity, count rate performance, scatter fraction, accuracy of correction and image quality were measured in both 2D and 3D mode. In addition, clinical images from two patients of different types of tumor were shown to further demonstrate this PET/CT system performance in the application to clinical oncology. Results The spatial resolution and sensitivity for 2D and 3D mode were presented in Table 1. The system scatter fraction was calculated as 18.36% and 42.92% in 2D and 3D mode respectively. In the image quality phantom test, the contrast of the 22, 17, 13, and 10 mm hot spheres in 2 mode was 50.33%(52.87%), 33.34%(40.86%), 20.64%(26.36%), and10.99%(15.82%) in N=4 (N=8)(N is the magnification of the background activity). In addition, the clinical image, as shown in Figure 1, (a) shows a man with lymph cancer, and (b) is a man with bone metastasis from lung cancer. The cross in red color in the figure indicates the position of cancer. This PET-CT system is capable to distinguish the position of cancer, indicating its high performance in disease diagnose. Conclusions The results showed that the performance of the newly developed Ray-Scan 64 PET/CT system is of high resolution, low scatter characteristics and suitable for clinical applications.
