Abstract:In this paper, we consider an infeasible homotopy method to solve fixed point problems on a general unbounded set. The method enlarges the choice scope of initial points by a perturbation on equality constraint. Under a new and weaker condition for the defining mapping $\Phi $, a constructive proof of the existence of fixed points and the global convergence are obtained. The computational result illustrates that our method improves greatly the computational efficiency than the existing interior point homotopy methods.

Abstract:Geometric properties of the fixed point set $Fix(f)$ of a self-mapping $f$ on a metric or a generalized metric space is an attractive issue. The set $Fix(f)$ can contain a geometric figure (a circle, an ellipse, etc.) or it can be a geometric figure. In this paper, we consider the set of simulation functions for geometric applications in the fixed point theory both on metric and some generalized metric spaces ($S$-metric spaces and $b$-metric spaces). The main motivation of this paper is to investigate the geometric properties of non unique fixed points of self-mappings via simulation functions.

Abstract:In this paper, we present a new homotopy method which is a non-interior point homotopy method for solving semi-infinite programming problems. Under suitable assumptions, we prove that the method determines a smooth path from a given point. The new homotopy method generalizes the existing combined homotopy interior point method for semi-infinite programming problems to unbounded set, moreover, it is more convenient in that it enlarges the choice scope of the initial point. Some numerical examples are given to show its efficiency.

Abstract:In this paper, we investigated several new fixed points theorems for multivalued mappings in the framework $ b $-metric spaces. We first generalized $ S $-iterative schemes for multivalued mappings to above spaces by means of a convex structure and then we developed the existence of fixed points and approximate endpoints of the multivalued contraction mappings using iteration techniques. Furthermore, we introduced the modified $ S $-iteration process for approximating a common endpoint of a multivalued $ \alpha_{s} $-nonexpansive mapping and a multivalued mapping satisfying conditon $ (E^{'}) $. We also showed that this new iteration process converges faster than the $ S $-iteration process in the sense of Berinde. Some convergence results for this iterative procedure to a common endpoint under some certain additional hypotheses were proved. As an application, we applied the $ S $-iteration process in finding the solution to a class of nonlinear quadratic integral equations.

Abstract:In the present paper, under certain assumptions, we establish the convergence of iterates for self-mappings of complete metric spaces with graphs which are of a contractive type. The class of mappings considered in the paper contains the so-called cyclical mappings introduced by W. A. Kirk, P. S. Srinivasan and P. Veeramani in 2003 and the class of monotone nonexpansive operators. Our results hold in the case of a symmetric graph.

Abstract:Robinson's generalized Newton's method for nonlinear functions with values in a cone is extended to mappings on Riemannian manifolds with values in a cone. When ${\cal D}f$ satisfies the $L$-average Lipschitz condition, we use the majorizing function technique to establish the semi-local quadratic convergence of the sequences generated by the extended Newton's method. As applications, we also obtain Kantorovich's type theorem, Smale's type theorem under the $\gamma$-condition and an extension of the theory of Smale's approximate zeros.

Abstract:Inexact proximal point methods are extended to find singular points for multivalued vector fields on Hadamard manifolds. Convergence criteria are established under some mild conditions. In particular, in the case of proximal point algorithm, that is, ε _n=0 for each n , our results improve sharply the corresponding results in Li et al. ( 2009 ). Applications to optimization problems, variational inequality problems and gradient methods are also given.

These results not only provide a solution to Schauder conjecture in the affirmative under the setting of -vector spaces for compact single-valued continuous mappings, but also show the existence of fixed points for upper semicontinuous set-valued mappings defined on -convex subsets in Hausdorff locally -convex spaces, which would be fundamental for nonlinear functional analysis, where .

Abstract:In this paper, we investigate the existence of fixed points for asymptotically nonexpansive mappings with center 0 defined on closed convex subsets of various Banach spaces. Three applications are given. Firstly, we prove that our results refine those concerning alternate convexically nonexpansive (in short; ACN) mappings studied by P. N. Dowling in " On a fixed point result of Amini-Harandi in strictly convex Banach spaces, Acta. Math. Hungar., 112 (1-2), (2006), 85-88" . Secondly, by using Lau's result in " Closed convex invariant subsets of $L_p(G)$, Trans. Amer. Math. Soc., {\bf 232}, (1977), 131-142", we give another characterization for the noncompactness of locally compact groups $G$. Finally, we discuss the existence of a solution for a nonlinear transport equation without using compactness results.

Abstract:We study the existence of fixed points for continuous maps $f$ from an $n$-ball $X$ in $\mathbb R^n$ to $\mathbb R^n$ with $n\geq 1$. We show that $f$ has a fixed point if, for some absolute retract $Y\subset\partial X$, $f(Y)\subset X$ and $\partial X-Y$ is an $(f, X)$-blockading set. For $n\geq 2$, let $D$ be an $n$-ball in $X$ and $Y$ be an $(n-1)$-ball in $\partial X$. Relying on the result just mentioned, we show the existence of a fixed point of $f$, if $D$ and $Y$ are well placed and behave well under $f$, and ${\rm deg}(f_D)=-{\rm deg}(f_{\partial Y})$, where $f_D=f|D: D \rightarrow \mathbb{R}^n$ and $f_{\partial Y}=f|\partial Y: \partial Y \rightarrow \partial Y$. The degree ${\rm deg}(f_D)$ of $f_D$ is explicitly defined and some elementary properties of which are investigated. These results extend the Brouwer fixed point theorem.

Abstract:In this paper, a smoothing homotopy method for solving the nonlinear complementarity problem is considered. The homotopy equation is constructed based on Chen-Harker-Kanzow-Smale smooth function. Under certain mild non-monotone condition, the global convergence result is obtained. Furthermore, the initial point can be chosen almost everywhere in R-n but not just in R-+(n). The numerical experimental results show that the method is effective.

Abstract:In this paper, we present two modified algorithms for finding a common element of the solution set of a quasimonotone variational inequality and the fixed point set of demicontractive mapping. The main advantage of such iterative methods is that it does not require Lipschitz continuity and the mapping only needs to be quasimonotonicity. Therefore, our algorithms can be applied to more general variational inequalities. Several numerical experiments are provided to verify the preponderance and efficiency of the proposed algorithms.

Continuation Path Learning for Homotopy Optimization

Abstract:Homotopy optimization is a traditional method to deal with a complicated optimization problem by solving a sequence of easy-to-hard surrogate subproblems. However, this method can be very sensitive to the continuation schedule design and might lead to a suboptimal solution to the original problem. In addition, the intermediate solutions, often ignored by classic homotopy optimization, could be useful for many real-world applications. In this work, we propose a novel model-based approach to learn the whole continuation path for homotopy optimization, which contains infinite intermediate solutions for any surrogate subproblems. Rather than the classic unidirectional easy-to-hard optimization, our method can simultaneously optimize the original problem and all surrogate subproblems in a collaborative manner. The proposed model also supports real-time generation of any intermediate solution, which could be desirable for many applications. Experimental studies on different problems show that our proposed method can significantly improve the performance of homotopy optimization and provide extra helpful information to support better decision-making.

Abstract:We study the existence problems of fixed points and the topological structure of fixed point sets for nonexpansive set-valued maps in Banach space. We establish some porosity results on the existence of fixed points and the topological structure of fixed point sets for nonexpansive set-valued maps with values in an admissible family. The results obtained in the present paper cover and improve the corresponding ones due to De Blasi and Myjak (C. R. Acad. Sci. Paris Sér. I Math. 308:51–54, 1989) and De Blasi et al. (Set-Valued Anal. 17:97–112, 2009).

Abstract:In the present paper, we consider inexact proximal point algorithms for finding singular points of multivalued vector fields on Hadamard manifolds. The rate of convergence is shown to be linear under the mild assumption of metric subregularity. Furthermore, if the sequence of parameters associated with the iterative scheme converges to 0, then the convergence rate is superlinear. At the same time, the finite termination of the inexact proximal point algorithm is also provided under a weak sharp minima-like condition. Applications to optimization problems are provided. Some of our results are new even in Euclidean spaces, while others improve and/or extend some known results in Euclidean spaces. As a matter of fact, in the case of exact proximal point algorithm, our results improve the corresponding results in [G. C. Bento and J. X. Cruz Neto, Opttm., 63 (2014), pp. 1281-1288]. Finally, several examples are provided to illustrate that our results are applicable while the corresponding results in the Hilbert space setting are not.

Abstract:A notion of quasi-regularity is extended for the inclusion problem ${F(p)\in C}$ , where F is a differentiable mapping from a Riemannian manifold M to ${\mathbb R^n}$ . When C is the set of minimum points of a convex real-valued function h on ${\mathbb R^n}$ and DF satisfies the L-average Lipschitz condition, we use the majorizing function technique to establish the semi-local convergence of sequences generated by the Gauss-Newton method (with quasi-regular initial points) for the convex composite function h ◦ F on Riemannian manifold. Two applications are provided: one is for the case of regularities on Riemannian manifolds and the other is for the case when C is a cone and DF(p 0)(·) − C is surjective. In particular, the results obtained in this paper extend the corresponding one in Wang et al. (Taiwanese J Math 13:633–656, 2009).
