Abstract:In-situ sediment treatment with calcium nitrate is a promising approach to control phosphorus release from sediments. In this study, effect of calcium nitrate on cycling character of nutrient salt and organic matter between surface water and its sediments was investigated. The results showed that organic matter in sediments could biodegrade through denitrification.TOC concentration in overlying water reduced gradually with the increment of Ca(NO3)2 when its dose kept under 1.5 g.However, when more than 1.5 g Ca(NO3)2 was injected into the sediments,TOC concentration increased with the increment of Ca(NO3)2.Ammonium nitrogen release was accelerated by adding calcium nitrate into the sediments,so the total nitrogen content of the sediment decreased about 8.3%~18.7% when 1.0~2.5 g calcium nitrate was added. The added calcium of nitrate could also reduce the release amount of ferrous and manganic compounds from the sediment.Under the anaerobic conditions, the phosphorus released obviously from the sediment and the release of phosphorus from the sediment was controlled by the calcium nitrate. The duration of in-situ treatment to control phosphorus release from sediments was delayed by adding more nitrate calcium.Compared with the initial sediment, different forms of phosphorus in sediments decreased in order of NaOH-POrg-PHCl-P under anaerobic condition. When calcium nitrate was added into the system, the total phosphorus release from the sediment was controlled, but the contents of different forms of phosphorus changed.NaOH-P in sediments was almost the same as the initial,HCl-P increased from 511 mg·g-1 to 528 mg·g-1 and Org-P reduced from 97.6 mg·g-1 to 91.6 mg·g-1.
