Abstract:The well-posedness and ill-posedness are considered for the KdV-Burgers type equation u_t+u_(xxx)+uu_x+(|D_x|~(2α)u)=0,t∈R~+,x∈R,where 0≤α≤1.The equation is well-posedness in H~s(R) when s>-α,while it's ill-posedness in H·~s(R) when s<α-32(2-α).

Abstract:Considered is the generalized Korteweg-de Vries-Burgers equation $$ u_{t}+u_{xxx}+uu_{x}+|D_{x}|^{2\alpha}u=0,\quad t\in \mathbb{R}^{+}, x\in \mathbb{R}, $$ with $0\leq \alpha\le 1$. We prove a sharp results on the associated Cauchy problem in the Sobolev space $ {H}^s(\mathbb{R})$. For $s>-\min\{\frac {3+2\alpha}4, 1\}$ we give the well-posedness of solutions of the Cauchy problem, while for $\frac 12\le\alpha\le 1$ and for $s<-\min\{\frac {3+2\alpha}4, 1\}$ we show some ill-posedness issues.

Abstract:Considering the Cauchy problem for the modified Korteweg–de Vries–Burgers equation ut+uxxx+ϵ|∂x|2αu=2(u3)x,u(0)=ϕ, where 0<ϵ,α≤1 and u is a real-valued function, we show that it is uniformly globally well-posed in Hs(s≥1) for all ϵ∈(0,1]. Moreover, we prove that for any s≥1 and T>0, its solution converges in C([0,T];Hs) to that of the MKdV equation if ϵ tends to 0.

Abstract:In this paper, we consider the following linear Korteweg-de Vries-Benjamin Bona Mahony (KdV-BBM) equation on a finite interval. ⎧ ⎨ ⎩ ut -a2uxxt + ux + uxxx = 0, (x, t) E (0, L) x (0, oo), u(0, t) = u(L, t) = ux(L, t) = 0, t E (0, oo), u(x, 0) = u0(x), x E (0, L). We show the well-posedness by the semigroup theory. A set of critical length G is obtained, for which the system possesses conservative solutions. Then we prove the exponentially stability of the associated semigroup when L E6 G by the frequency domain method.

The local well-posedness of the Cauchy problem in the homogeneous Sobolev space $\dot{H}^s(\R)$ for $s\in (\frac{\alpha-3}{2(2-\alpha)}, 0]$ is proved. In addition, the mapping that associated to appropriate initial-data the corresponding solution is analytic as a function between appropriate Banach spaces.

Abstract:We provide a new analytical approach to operator splitting for equations of the type $u_t=Au+u u_x$ where $A$ is a linear differential operator such that the equation is well-posed. Particular examples include the viscous Burgers' equation, the Korteweg-de Vries (KdV) equation, the Benney-Lin equation, and the Kawahara equation. We show that the Strang splitting method converges with the expected rate if the initial data are sufficiently regular. In particular, for the KdV equation we obtain second-order convergence in $H^r$ for initial data in $H^{r+5}$ with arbitrary $r\ge 1$.

Abstract:A boundary control problem for the following generalized Korteweg-de Vries-Burgers-Huxley equation: $$u_t=\nu u_{xx}-\mu u_{xxx}-\alpha u^{\delta}u_x+\beta u(1-u^{\delta})(u^{\delta}-\gamma), \ x\in[0,1], \ t>0,$$ where $\nu,\mu,\alpha,\beta>0,$ $\delta\in[1,\infty)$, $\gamma\in(0,1)$ subject to Neumann boundary conditions is considered in this work. We first establish the well-posedness of the Neumann boundary value problem by an application of monotonicity arguments, the Hartman-Stampacchia theorem, the Minty-Browder theorem, and the Crandall-Liggett theorem. The additional difficulties caused by the third order linear term is successfully handled by proving a proper version of the Minty-Browder theorem. By using suitable feedback boundary controls, we demonstrate $\mathrm{L}^2$- and $\mathrm{H}^1$-stability properties of the closed-loop system for sufficiently large $\nu>0$. The analytical conclusions from this work are supported and validated by numerical investigations.

Abstract:We study generalized variants of the Burgers equation and the KdV equation on the circle. The main goal of the paper is to show that both extensions can be recast as geodesic equations on a suitable diffeomorphism group of the circle and the corresponding Bott-Virasoro group respectively. As a consequence we obtain that the initial value problem for the Burgers equation with an additional quadratic term is well-posed on a scale of Sobolev spaces on the circle.

Abstract:In this work we study a dispersive equation with a dissipative term, the Benjamin-Bona-Mahony-Burgers equation. First we prove that the initial value problem for this equation is well-posed in $H^s(\mathbb{R}),$ for $s\geq 0$ and ill-posed if $s< 0.$ The ill-posedness is in the sense that the flow-map cannot be continuous at the origin from $H^s(\mathbb{R})$ to even $\mathcal{D}'(\mathbb{R}).$ Additionally, we establish an exact theory of convergence of the periodic solutions to the continuous one, in Sobolev spaces, as the period goes to infinity.

Abstract:Burgers-type equations are used to describe certain phenomena in gas dynamics, traffic flow, plasma astrophysics and ocean dynamics. In this paper, a (2+documentclass[12pt]{minimal}usepackage{amsmath}usepackage{wasysym}usepackage{amsfonts}usepackage{amssymb}usepackage{amsbsy}usepackage{mathrsfs}usepackage{upgreek}setlength{oddsidemargin}{-69pt}egin{document}$$+$$end{document}1)-dimensional generalized Burgers system with the variable coefficients in a fluid is investigated. We obtain the Painlevé-integrable constraints of the system with respect to the variable coefficients. Based on the truncated Painlevé expansions, an auto-Bäcklund transformation is constructed, along with some soliton solutions. Via a truncated Painlevé expansions, certain multiple kink solutions are derived. Via a complex-conjugate transformation, some breather solutions, half-periodic kink solutions and hybrid solutions composed of the breathers and kink waves are seen.

Abstract:This paper deals with the numerical approximation with meshless method for the boundary optimal control problem with some control and state constraints governed by the Burgers-Fisher equation, which is a nonlinear evolution equation and is the prototype model for the reaction, convection and diffusion phenomena arising in many spatial-temporal processes. By making use of the element-free Galerkin (EFG) method, the original optimal control problem is discretized spatially to a semi-discrete optimal control problem governed by a system of nonlinear ordinary differential equations. Then, by using the control parameterization method, the original problem can be reduced to an optimal parameter selection problem governed by a lumped parameter system, which can be solved as a nonlinear optimization problems by using the Sequential Quadratic Programming (SQP) algorithm. The numerical simulations are given to illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed numerical approximation method.

Abstract:In this paper, a fully discrete local discontinuous Galerkin finite element method is proposed to solve the KdV-Burgers-Kuramoto equation with variable-order Riemann-Liouville time fractional derivative. The method proposed in this paper is based on the finite difference method in time and local discontinuous Galerkin method in space. For all $ \epsilon(t)\in (0, 1) $ with variable order, we prove the scheme is unconditional stable and convergent. Finally, numerical examples are provided to verify the theoretical analysis and the order of convergence for the proposed method.
