Internationalization and Productivity of Service Industry: Evidence from Chinese Firm-level Data

Abstract:Based on the feature of service industry,this paper addresses the issue of productivity and internationalization of Chinese service firms at micro-level.We show that,after controlling for sector,ownership,firm age and size,most international service firms have highest productivity.In the short run,importers of technology and service show a positive relationship with firm productivity.There is no obvious relationship between exporters and their productivity.Moreover,firms with more international competitors or domestic suppliers exhibit a higher productivity,suggesting that internationalization and localization should be equally important for policy makers.
