Abstract:The availability of attractive green spaces is an integral part of urban quality of life. But the traditional methods of evaluating the level of green spaces shared by urban dwellers have some disadvantages. They are as follows: (1) Area of green spaces is always taken as an only indicator so that the importance of green gross inside the green space is ignored. (2) The spatial scale of the indicators is so macro that the micro-spatial pattern of the green spaces can't be reflected. (3) Evaluation of green spaces' system generally depends on the total area of green spaces. But other constraint factors are not taken into account. Keeping the limitation above in mind, this paper adopts a new approach for calculating the green spaces' qualities then tries to design a new model as to how given spaces attract citizens in the neighborhood with the help of RS&GIS technology.The green gross is equal to the sum of vegetation fractions derived from Thematic Mapper images of the green space. The model is based on the theory of spatial interaction. The meanings of all the parameters are as follows: The attractiveness is In direct ratio with the green spaces' qualities while in inverse ratio with the exponential distance. Furthermore, the model also considers several restriction factors such as the accessibility, entrance fees, quietness, spaciousness and so on. The weights awe Oven by simulation of Hopfield neuron network.At last the approaches and model above are applied into the city of Shanghai in China. Taking the green spaces of parks inside the outer ring road as the study sample, the results are in accord with the actual spatial characteristic satisfactorily. The model is made operational easily, which can not only monitor space-time variety of urban green space, but also provide a new indicator for urban green space system planning.

Urban Forest Landscape Patterns in Ma'Anshan City, China

Abstract:The landscape pattern of Ma'anshan City was analyzed based on theories and methodologies of landscape ecology, remote sensing, global positioning, and a geographic information system (GIS). The study area encompassed the entire built-up area of 63.88 km(2); a north-south transect 3-km wide and 13-km long was established along the long axis of the city. Five major landscape elements were assessed: urban land, urban forest, agriculture, water, and grass. Urban land was the dominant land cover type, and occupied 67% of total land area; while patches of urban forest occupied 16%, with a landscape element dominance of 0.42. Urban forest was classified according to land-use category and location into six types: scenic forest, yard forest, recreational forest, roadside forest, shelter forest, and nurseries. There were 2464 urban forest patches, the largest being 185.1 ha, with an average of 0.43 ha. The low nearest neighbor index and high patch density indicated that urban forest patches tend to be aggregated and have a high degree of fragmentation. This study also demonstrated that the spatial pattern of urbanization could be quantified using a combination of landscape metrics and gradient analysis. Urban forest has distinct spatial characters that are dependent on specific landscape metrics along the urbanization gradient.

Abstract:Urban green spaces are considered as the life support system in a city, if systematically planned, developed, and maintained, they may provide various ecosystem services in a sustainable way. By integrating the morphological spatial pattern analysis (MSPA) and the green infrastructure (GI) network based on GIS, this study provided an urban green space planning method to guide urban sustainable spatial development and land use decisions in the Longgang District of Shenzhen in China. The approach has a robust performance in identifying the vital hubs and linkages in the urban green space system. It is hoped that this plan model based on MSPA, the function connectivity of urban green spaces could be farther strengthened so that some key zones in landscape pattern could be protected in the future development.

Abstract:Abstract The stone walls remaining in the highly urbanized Macao area provide a special habitat for plants, repair the fragmentation of the habitat caused by urbanization, and enhance the urban biodiversity. The main object of this survey are stone wall trees in Macao. The species composition, frequency of occurrence and distribution were ascertained, and the feasibility of establishing stone wall tree landscape trail systems was discussed. The results showed that there were 96 stone wall trees in Macao. Among them, 47.9% of the total in the historical center of Macao. In addition, research and analysis on the species composition, life form, frequency and similarity of the associated plants of stone wall trees were analyzed. The survey found that there were 101 species of companion plants, and herbaceous plants had the greatest growth advantage. Most of the companion species were selective and incidental to the stone wall habitat; the similarity of the companion plants in different habitats was less than 0.25, showing that the stone wall was conducive to species diversity. The results of this research aim to explore planning strategies for holistic conservation of stone wall landscape, and provide a theoretical basis for studying the biodiversity of special habitats in Macao.

Abstract:Urban forest plays a crucial role in coping with global change and rapid urbanization via providing various ecosystem services. In this context, cities in Guangdong-Hongkong-Macao Greater Bay Area of China (GBA) established increasing investment in urban forest construction since 2000. However, data on the current condition of the planted forests remains scarce, which hampers a comprehensive understanding of how to improve the quality of urban forest planning and construction in the future. Therefore, we selected a core city Guangzhou, an inland city Foshan and a coastal city Zhuhai in GBA as our research objects and classified them into core urban area (CUA), semi urban area (SUA), and urban fringe area (UFA). We launched a field measurement for the tree variables regarding forest structure. Besides, ecological indexes were introduced to evaluate the condition and potential of the forests and florescence data together with tridimensional green quantity data provided different perspectives on landscape diversity and stability. The results show that Guangzhou has a well-planned forest pattern with advantages in forest structures and visible landscape values in different areas. To introduce different tree species in CUA and SUA and to plant more trees of those rare tree species in UFA can effectively increase Guangzhou's forest diversity and evenness. For Foshan, it is advisable to implement a balanced forest-investment policy by making specific recommendations for different areas, such as planting various tree species in CUA and UFA to increase forest diversity. For Zhuhai, it is distinguished for the attractiveness for tourists by the advantages in landscape diversity and stability, but it is still necessary to plant different trees with appropriate classes to enhance the urban forest stability. Overall, it is crucial for city managers to obtain precise knowledge of urban forest conditions from both the ecological and landscape perspectives, which may contribute enormously to the improvement of the quality of urban forest planning and construction in adapting to various environmental challenges.

Abstract:Through the research on the development stages of the green space system, it was considered that the key for the planning of the urban green space system towards eco-city is to construct urban ecological green space system. In this paper, based on the requirement of eco-city construction, landscape ecology model (patch-corridor-matrix) was adopted to analyze the urban green space system. Simultaneously, the principle and methodology for the plan were provided. Finally, according to the framework of the urban green space system plan for ecological city, the author made a sample study of Changzhou City in Jiangsu Province and put forward a preliminary plan for its ecological green space construction. And it was important for the environment improvement and the sustainable development in China.

Abstract:Abstract. Based on the combination of landscape ecology theory and GIS technology, this paper selects the landscape pattern index at the patch type level and landscape level from the two aspects of unit characteristics and landscape heterogeneity, and quantitative analysis of the landscape pattern of parks and green spaces in the main urban area of Wuhan City and suggestions for optimization are put forward. The research results show that: from the patch level, the park green space in the main urban area mainly presents a landscape pattern dominated by comprehensive parks, supplemented by specialized parks, and supplemented by community parks and strip parks. Among them, Hongshan District Park has the largest green space patch area, and Jianghan District has the smallest area; in terms of the average patch area of park green space, the strip park is the largest and the community park is the smallest. From the perspective of landscape level, the diversity index and evenness index of park green space in each district in the main urban area are generally low, among which Jianghan District is the lowest and Hongshan District is the highest; the degree of fragmentation is relatively high in Jianghan District and the lowest in Hongshan District.The patch boundary shape of comprehensive park is complex and has the highest fractal dimension, while that of community park is regular and has the lowest fractal dimension. On this basis, this paper puts forward targeted optimization suggestions based on the research results.

Abstract:Macau is a typical meeting place of the East and the West in Asia.Influenced by this special background,Macau's landscape is a compelling example of Western and Eastern cultures succeed in living side by side.Most of Macau city landscape are small and elegant,and the style of landscape buildings and ornaments in Macau is a special Southeast Asian style-an integration of the local architecture,southern Europe Portuguese architecture and Chinese traditional architectural features,which reflects the influence of the Portugal architectural and garden style.The form of the landscape buildings in Macau is simple but various,which embodies both Chinese and Western landscape building styles.It also has decorative details and bright colors.Studying its decoration features in Macau will be helpful to inherit the world culture inheritance and develop the international sightseeing industry of Macau.

Abstract:Urban green space is an important part of urban ecosystem, possessing negative feedback regulating functions, which to a certain extent brings various ecological functions into play to maintain the balance of urban ecosystem. In respect of the capacity of anti-adversity and reforming environment, significant differences exist in green space, which may result from its discrepancy of three-dimensional ecological characters. In this paper, based on analysis on original ecological effect data from field investigation of green space in Shanghai urban districts, the influence of three-dimensional ecological characters on green space's ecological functions was discussed.

Abstract:Nature, diversity, and openness are what we demand from urban green space in the 21st century. Based on the summary of urban green space connotation, types and significance, this paper reviewed the research hotspots of urban green space, i.e., conservation and planning of urban-rural fringe, restoration and preservation of natural areas and indigenous vegetation, ecological restoration and planning of green way, biodiversity conservation, ecosystem structure and services, and management policy. The difference between foreign and domestic urban green space researches and practices were summarized, and some preferential urban green space research aspects in the future were proposed. It was suggested that in China, urban green space strategy should be integrated into urban planning and land use planning.

Differences in Emotional Preferences toward Urban Green Spaces among Various Cultural Groups in Macau and Their Influencing Factors

Abstract:This study explores the diversity in emotional tendencies and needs toward urban green spaces (UGSs) among people from different cultural backgrounds in the wave of cultural integration. We utilized social media data as research tools, gathering a wide range of perspectives and voices. Utilizing geolocation data from 176 UGSs in Macau, we collected 139,162 social media comments to analyze the emotional perceptions of different cultural groups. Furthermore, we conducted regression analysis on the number of posts and emotional intensity values from four linguistic groups—Chinese, English, Southeast Asian languages, and Portuguese—in UGSs, correlating them with ten locally relevant landscape features. Our findings reveal diverse attitudes, emotional inclinations, and functional and design needs of different linguistic groups toward UGSs, as follows: (1) there were significant differences in emotional intensity and tweet counts across 176 UGSs; (2) Chinese and Portuguese speakers showed a more positive attitude toward plazas and natural ecological areas, whereas English- and Southeast-Asian-language speakers tended to favor recreational areas and suburban parks; (3) Chinese speakers exhibited a more positive emotional intensity toward sports facilities, while English speakers placed more emphasis on green space areas, architecture, sports infrastructure, and plant landscapes; (4) there was no specific landscape feature preference for Portuguese- and Southeast-Asian-language speakers. This research not only deepens our understanding of the emotional perceptions and preferences of UGSs among different cultural groups but also explores the association between these groups and various urban landscape features. This provides important theoretical and practical insights for future UGS planning, construction, and promoting multicultural coexistence for sustainable urban development.

Abstract:The problem of green space planning in urban renewal in Shanghai is summarized,and a solution of making the green space a driving force of urban renewal is pointed out from the perspective of economics that enhance the indirect economic benefits.From the ecological perspective the green space planning should develop in the direction of network structure and eco-design,and should increase the vertical green and three-dimensional biomass.Finally,by taking the conceptual planning of Dalian Road as an example,an effective way of combining economic benefit with ecological benefit is illustrated in green space planning.

Abstract:Abstract Based on the landscape ecological methods, GIS software and aerial images of 2018a, this paper studies the spatial pattern of urban green landscape of Suzhou via landscape ecological theory. The green landscape was consists of several kinds of patches according to the size. Landscape ecological indexes such as the number of patches, landscape fragmentation, and landscape separation were selected to study the landscape pattern of green space in the main urban area of Suzhou. The results show that the biggest green area is in Wuzhong District, the minimum is Gusu District; the green landscape fragmentation of Gusu Districtis is the highest, but the lowest is in Wuzhong District; the landscape separation degree is the largest in Wuzhong District, and the industrial park is the smallest. Comprehensive analysis shows that the landscape pattern of green space in Wuzhong District is more desirable. Finally, some suggestions are given on how to optimize the green space construction in Suzhou.
